Obama to accept on night of MTV awards

(CNN) – President Barack Obama plans to deliver an acceptance speech on the night of the MTV Video Music Awards in September.

Obama's speech, however, won't be for a statuette of one of the moonmen.

Instead, he is planning to accept the Democratic presidential nomination at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 6, the same evening that greats of the pop, hip hop, and top 40 music industry will accept MTV's moonmen statuettes at Los Angeles' Staples Center.

An MTV spokeswoman told CNN the station would air the awards from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern, rather than their usual 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. "to avoid conflict with the Democratic National Convention proceedings that evening."

The Obama campaign had no comment.

Obama accepted the 2008 Democratic nomination at Denver's Mile High Stadium, and this year's venue can hold up to 80,000 people.

Major winners at last summer's Video Music Awards included Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Tyler the Creator, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber.

– CNN's Jessica Yellin and Michelle Jaconi contributed to this report.

Somehow I don't think most of the people who plan on watching the MTV awards are even aware there is a Presidential Race occurring this year. By the way, anyone else out there old enough to remember when MTV stood for Music Television and they actually played music videos?

Fact: Presidential nominees conduct acceptance speeches when they are nominated by their party. This is not something unique to President Obama, it has been done for quite some time and Romney will do it as well.

Fact: The DNC nomination acceptance speech and the MTW awards are two separate "pre-scheduled" events, held at separate places at the same time. This would known as a coincidence were there some type of relationship between the two event, which I am not sure what it would be.

Fact: Corporations buy naming rights to major facilities as a form of advertising. Bank of America bought naming rights for what was formerly know as Ericsson Stadium in 2004, or eight years ago. There is no connection between that fact and President Obama's giving his acceptance speech at that venue in 2012.

I could go on with illustrations that would point out that hating someone does not change simple facts. I truly feel sorry for those whose contempt for the President and this country causes them to make statements that either indicate an unacceptable level ignorance, or a willingness to misstate things simply to fuel sentiments and beliefs of their fellow morons.

    Have a nice day.

Please leave my President alone! Now you mean to tell me that a bunch of musicians should come before President Obama. I think not! By the way most of the music today is about sex and money. High values for the children and America right?

As much as MTV represents real life for hard working American taxpayers, so does Obama. He should have accepted on the night the Cartoon Network gives its awards, he is such a joke as the most corrupt, inept, incompetent, union toady president we have ever had.

What's important is that Obama is most certainly one of the smartest and best American Presidents ever and he will be reelected in November. Personality wise he is very down to earth, funny, and a great singer with class, style and soul. I met him as a Senator on the Capitol steps in 2006 and we joked around and laughed – he is a great and wonderful human being that genuinely cares about America and all Americans. Now, compare him to Willard the Millionaire Mormon, who needs other people around him to say he possesses those same qualities – there's no challenge and no competition.

God bless Obama and Biden and their families and supporters as we all get ready for four fantastic years serving America!

The president is such an embarrasment. I wish he would resign for the sake of all of us. I'll even take stupid Biden over him.

You have described the mindset/mentality of Republican Party to a tee. And I agree with you that they are absolutely pathetic.

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only way forward.
