(CNN) – Mitt Romney continued his blitz against President Barack Obama over the federal deficit on Tuesday, signaling a GOP shift away from social issues and back to what Republicans consider the president's Achilles' heel: the economy.
The presumptive GOP presidential nominee gave a speech on government spending in the battleground state of Iowa, the same day as House Speaker John Boehner cautioned of another battle brewing in Congress over the national debt ceiling.
P.S. Bush inherited a Surplus from Clinton.
Check out how our POTUS is NOT looking out for us:
The Department of Health and Human Services last week announced it had awarded a $5.9 million grant to a University of Chicago Medical Center program tied to Michelle Obama and run by Eric Whitaker, one of President Obama’s closest friends.
Once again, not allowing any crisis to go to waste–in this case, the current economic one hitting Americathe administration has couched the financial rewards as part of a job development program.
I have to admit it's kind of fun seeing the right and left go at here on PT. Bring your FACTS guys.....that's the only thing that doesn't lie.
In reality, it would be a deficit that Romney-Ryan would substantially increase, not decrease. No thanks.
This was a "major policy" speech? What major policies did he talk about?
It is a FACT that had Bush and the GOP controlled congress continued the economic momentum received from Clinton, our national debt would be only a fraction of what it is now. President Obama could have made stronger stimulus investments and our economy would be further into recover now.
2/3 of the national debt President Obama inherited was run up during GOP administrations. Bush reduced taxes, especially for the very wealthy without corresponding spending cuts, while his VP was saying that "deficits don't matter". Then there were the two unfunded wars – the first time we ever cut taxes and got into war – no previous administration in U.S. history was so irresponsible – and the GOP controlled congress at the time. Then there was no child left behind – an unfunded mandate to the states. Then there was Medicare Part D, a massive unfunded giveaway to the drug companies.
Now Romney wants to readopt Bushonomics. And the morons on the right think they are better at economics. Sorry, you're not. All your strategies are to reduce taxes for your benefactors and maximize corporate profits by allowing abuses of workers and the environment and through stupid giveaways like no bid contracts. Short term gain for the few – long term pain for the many. And the gullible Faux news, Limbaugh, etc. followers swallow it hook, line, and sinker.
"Since April, women have gone from strongly backing Obama to endorsing Romney. In April, Obama held a 49 percent to 43 percent lead among women. That has now flipped to 46 percent backing Romney with 44 percent for Obama, an 8-point switch."
Like everything else Obama has attempted, his "war on women" is just another failure.
I don't trust Romney 2 feet.
Of course there have been proposals that would help deal with the debt and it is the Repoubs in congress that wouldn't move on them, with their only option being handing social security and medicare over to their corporate friends – creating more too big to fails and pretending this would actually save money when in reality like most privatization would just increase the cost to consumers by providing a crazy profit margin to their corporate donors.
Just anything to stampede the people, and plant the idea that the worlds coming to an end if he and his party don't get elected. The really bad thing, some believe whatever he says without question.
@Obama 2012 – BEND Forward America, take another 4 long years of FAILURE
I'd sugest you talk to your Doctor , let him know you have the same hard thought for over the last 6 hours !
Good for you, because one of your friends has >$1T of deficit/debt.
To this day, the MATH shows that the Bush atx cuts, the unfunded nature of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the unfunded nature of the Medicare perscription drug expansion ARE THE LARGEST CONTRIBUTING FACTORS...BY FAR...MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE AND MORE THAN THE REST COMBINED...TO THE NATIONAL DEBT AND DEFICITS.
That is more truth in a few sentences then I have seen in awhile ! One can only hope when Romney speaks about the economy he is smart enough to start at the Clinton surplus and go through the Bushfire years
I really want GWB to endorse the mitt romney because if GWB does it will be a cold day for Romney at the voting polls. Remember 9/11 everyone now picture Bush/Romney. It's not going to happen.
Anyone who says the economy is bad right now is either uneducated, unqualified or simply lazy. I have two relatively high paying jobs that I acquired during this administration. And I'm only 23 and a college dropout.
It's interesting that the same people who say this administration is too pro-government expect the very same government to hand them a job that they haven't worked to earn.
