New Crossroads spot claims Obama broke promises

Washington (CNN) - An independent group co-founded by Karl Rove says it's going up with new TV commercials that claim that President Barack Obama has broken promises when it comes to homeowners facing foreclosure, taxes, health care coverage and cutting the deficit.

Crossroads GPS announced Wednesday morning that they will spend $8 million to run their ads in ten battleground states between now and the end of May, and they add that they'll spend $25 million total to air the spots over the next four weeks.

The group says the 60-second commercial will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, all considered states both parties will fight hard for in November's presidential election.

"President Obama's agenda promised so much," says the narrator in the ad, which then includes a clip from June 2008 of then-presidential candidate Obama saying "we must help the millions of homeowners facing foreclosure." The narrator picks up, saying "promise broken. One in five mortgages are still under water."

Crossroads President Steven Law, in a release, said "President Obama made commitments on core issues to the American people, and this ad holds him to account. Our country faces serious economic and fiscal problems which require practical solutions and not just promises. If we don't hold Washington politicians accountable, we won't fix these problems that are holding our country back."

Crossroads GPS is the sister organization to American Crossroads, the independent super PAC that backs GOP causes and candidates. A Wesleyan Media Project study released earlier this month, which used data from Kantar Media/Campaign Media Analysis Group, indicated that Crossroads GPS is the biggest spender on general election ads so far, dishing out $12.6 million to run nearly 17,000 spots in 47 television markets.

A top Democrat is highlighting a promise he says Romney's made.

"The most important promise in this race is the one Mitt Romney made to the billionaires and oil companies financing these ads. Romney promised them massive new tax cuts while slashing Medicare for seniors and cutting education for the middle class. If Mitt Romney, Karl Rove, and their billionaire backers win, the middle class loses," says Bill Burton, the co-founder of Priorities USA, the pro-Obama super PAC, and former deputy press secretary in the Obama White House.

    rls,
The reality is the biggest contributors to the debt recently have been the cost of two wars that were hidden off the books and the unpaid Bush tax cuts.

In fact, Romney would make deficits even worse by giving more unaffordable tax cuts to the rich off the backs of middle-class Americans & seniors.

Of course he did: Gitmo is still open. He campaigned against debt and deficits, but then increased them substantially. He said he would be bipartisan and unite people, but he is the most divisive President ever. He said he would be transparent, but the health care bill was passed in the dark of night with massive bribes.

    GI Joe
It's hard to build a team with one person working and 400 sitting on the sidelines yelling HELL NO.

Very well said, GI Joe!!! But, this is what the GOP/TP has done since the President took office. Never mind what he proposed – it was HELL NO from their side. I sure hope people do not forget where the “loud-mouth” screaming came from when they actually should have been working for the American people after the mess THEY created! Oh, I forgot, they do work for 1% of the people. What a record to run on!

What did anyone expect from Crossroads, but more lies. It's was founded by Carl Rove! And, Dave .. President Obama (you dearly hate to hear our president respectively called President, don't you?) Our President is more transparent than any President I've known, because of the Internet) AND he passed an Insurance Bill that will help even more people, after 2014 .. even you, Dave, whether you want it or not. Some children just need guidance, even when they think they can do it themselves.

Typical Karl Rove propaganda: blame the Dems for not fixing the problems his GOBP cult created.

Why don't they just take that $25M and pay off people's mortgages? Have them put signs in their front yards promoting how their house got paid for? Wouldn't that be a more effective blow for the Republicans than wasting it on ads that no one is going to be convinced by?

Marry.. GI Joe ... You said it right .. how can one be bipartisan, when the other side (Republicans, in case some haven't been watching t.v.) keeps saying 'NO' to every proposal and Bill that comes before Congress, especially if it has our President's name on it. That's when they yell the loudest, even before they know what's in the Bill! That's how they are, and always will be .. and we need to oust them and find more moderate Republicans that will actually, at least, stop and think about it before they object to it. Some just might even agree to something that would help people.

As a conservative, you ought to love him then, since what you described is the attitude governing philosphy for the Right. Problem for you is, its not the truth, but the usual slop of intellectual babyfood and lies the righties dutifully swallow without question every day.
