Obama campaign attacks Rove's 'B.S.'

(CNN) – President Barack Obama's deputy campaign manager used a three-minute web video Thursday to take on the latest ad from the independent group Crossroads GPS, point by point.

"Karl Rove's group Crossroads is spending $25 million from secret donors to tear down the president in a new ad," Stephanie Cutter said to open the spot. "Time to tear this thing apart."

– Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker

The web video is the official counter from the Obama re-election campaign to the Crossroads commercial that claims the president has broken promises surrounding homeowners facing foreclosures, taxes, health care coverage and cutting the deficit.

On Wednesday, the Rove-backed group said it would spend $8 million to run the ad in ten battleground states between now and the end of May and is expected to spend $25 million to air the spot over the next four weeks.

But Cutter pushed back on the ad's four claims, saying the president's policies have helped 6 million homeowners with their mortgages, led to a drop in middle class taxes, enabled individuals to keep their current health care coverage as part of the federal law and that Obama enacted $1 trillion in spending cuts to help reduce the deficit.

Short clips of Romney are interspersed throughout the video to prove the policies of the presumptive Republican presidential candidate would roll back Obama's progress. Cutter then asks supporters to "call out" Rove.

"So another special interest attack ad, another set of outright distortions and another time when I need to ask you to do what you do best: get the president's back," she said. "Karl Rove is relying on you to do nothing to call out his B.S., and I know you'll prove him wrong."

Crossroads GPS is the sister organization to American Crossroads, which first became active in the 2010 mid-term elections as an independent super PAC supporting GOP causes and candidates. Its founders included Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff to President George W. Bush and former Republican National Committee chairmen Mike Duncan and Ed Gillespie.

A Wesleyan Media Project study released earlier this month, which used data from Kantar Media/Campaign Media Analysis Group, indicated that Crossroads GPS is the biggest spender on general election ads so far, dishing out $12.6 million to run nearly 17,000 spots in 47 television markets.

Ham Rove has more morals than Carl Rove.

@ John C: I'm middle class. My taxes are lower. There. That's proof. As for the deficit: Talk to GW. He wrote the checks, Obama just had to cash them.

So if President Obama enacted $1 trillion in spending cuts, why did the budget grow by 18% in one year?

It probably had something to do with adding the previous occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue's two wars and Medicare Part D to the books. You REALLY should do some research before you spout BS.

the donors to crossroads is no secret, it is a bunch of corporations and multi rich americans who want to run the country their way. At the expense of slave labor (us).

I truly wish we could have elections where we didn't argue about who's facts are real and instead concentrate on electing people with real solutions to our real problems. Karl Rove disgusts me because he doesn't care about the truth, the truth is whatever he can get to stick when he needs it to. He's not the only one by far who does this stuff, but he's the worst. He should be in jail. Fraud is a crime.

The information is out there for those who choose to educate themselves. Instead of spouting today's rightwing talking point, why don't you do just that? Oh, that's right – the truth hurts too much.

Finally got around to watching this. Where are the specifics? She is as bad as the Rove backed ads. What supporting data does she have that Middle CLass taxes are lower under Obama, or that $1 Trillion was cut from the deficit? Only middle class reduction in taxes was the Bush cuts 10 years ago. Teh payroll tax cuts were temporary and had minor impact on middle class payers. The deficit keeps growing at an astonishing rate, so how do we figure there was a $trillion cut?

First of all, Karl Rove isn't the Crossroads PAC. He's simply one of many advisers. Without knowledge of who scripted the new Crossroads video, it's impossible to determine Rove's involvement. Simply another politically convenient scurrilous personal attack on the usual demons by the juvenile Obama campaign. Shoot first, ask questions later.

I've read Karl Rove's commentary over the years in the Wall Street Journal and he is probably the most astute observer of political campaigns in America today. He's a walking facts and figures machine with an incredible head for numbers. I've never read an article by him that stoops to hyperbole (like "BS")–he doesn't need to because he believes facts speak for themselves. This video takes liberties with a couple facts which is not Karl Rove's style. My guess is that he had little involvement with it.

    1. Obama on the housing crisis: "We must help the millions of homeowners who are facing foreclosure." He did actually attempt to help with federal backing of loan programs that allowed homeowners to refinance even if they were underwater.

    2. Obama on taxes: "If you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up." He didn't raise INCOME tax on people, but the health care act raises numerous other taxes and creates new ones that will have the effect of raising taxes on people in that category. (Remember a "penalty" for not having insurance is a tax. If the money goes to the government, no matter what name you give it, it's still a tax.)

"Sorry, I am not buying Obama's campaign statements. Anyone who bashes Bush for debt and deficits, then increases them significantly will not get my vote."

Except President Obama didn't significantly raise the debt or the deficit. That's probably where your problem lies. Get away from the brainwashers and propagandists. Open your eyes to the facts: The GOBP cult is responsible for the majority of the debt and deficit. This is not up for debate, it is fact. If you don't this, your job is to do your own research using credible sources.

im wondering what the total amount of these super PACs are spending on this election. I think personally if they took al that money and started helping low income familys get back on there feet they probly would get 3 times as many votes than running a commercial that no one wants to see. Or how about taking that money and start investing it in some bussiness to get people back to work. these people dont want there taxes raised but they should do show everybody just how rich they are and complain that they are being taxed to much. If u ask me its hypocrital to throw money around like that then try to tell us we care about you.

This is the guy who was in cahoots with Bush and Cheney and still has the guts to show his face on television and he is leading the campaign to put the country back to all miseries they have created. Readers, just remember the hundreds of thousands of lives that were lost, the maimed, the injured, the families who lost their loveones and the wrecked economy . Evil is what this guy is...Don't let him do his trick again...we have suffered enough...

Hey the Republicans are practicing exactly the same tactics that my fellow Democrats have been using all along. Cutter (Is she the next Wasserman wannabe?!) and the so called "Team Obama" are just getting really real desperate. Initially they thought the 2012 election would be a "walk in the park." Since Mr. Obama has no REAL record to speak of, they have needed to continue reinventing. I guess you could say that Team Obama miscalculated.

However, that could drastically change if Mr. Obama starts stops the lying game and starts respecting the American voters.

Besides the American people now know of Mr. Obama's track record, err, or LACK THEREOF.

Suggestion to my fellow Democrats: Folks that live in glass houses should refrain from throwing stones.

"Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his own money than what Barack Obama does with mine."

    Oh well...

Wow! Stephanie, that was awesome! No wonder you are a Deputy Campaign Manager. You can put a positive "spin" on the economy, foreclosures, taxes, and the deficit under this failed presidents watch you are "Super Spin Woman".... I'll bet you could spin up something positive about Hitler, Stalin, and Osama Bin Ladin if you put your mind to it. Of course, those propaganda statements would not be true either......

"Sorry, I am not buying Obama's campaign statements. Anyone who bashes Bush for debt and deficits, then increases them significantly will not get my vote."

Wrong! President Obama is responsible for less than 20% of the deficit increase during his term. The rest is owned by the GOBP cult, due to their ridiculous tax cuts for the wealthy, their unfunded wars (that they refused to put on the books) and the lost tax revenues from the economic meltdown the GOBP cult caused with it's stupid failed policies.

The GOP biggest weapon this year is going to their assumption that voters can't think for themselves. Feed them lies in a nice shiny package and they'll take it hook, line, and sinker. Obama on the other hand respects people's intelligence and hasn't and will not resort to these kinds of tricks. And once in office, who would you trust? Obama or the Etch-A-Sketch man?

He cut FUTURE SPENDING INCREASES and NOT current spending. It's all part of the non-reality of "spending cuts" by Obama. It's pure deceit and then sol das if there were real cuts to current spending.

You might want to take your own advice.
