Obama re-elect highlights education in new TV spot

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's re-election team came out Friday with a new TV commercial that touts what the campaign calls the president's "commitment to keeping college affordable and attainable for all Americans."

The ad starts with pictures of a young Obama with his mother, Ann Dunham, with the narrator saying "his mother got him up before dawn to do school work. She knew what it meant for his future. With hard work and student aid, his life was transformed."

The 30 second spot ends with the narrator saying that "today higher education means even more the middle class, giving young people the chance to compete, like he did. So he doubled funding for college grants, capped federal student loan payments, passed the largest college tax credit ever. For their future, and ours."

The ad began running Friday in Florida and Nevada, two battleground states. The Obama campaign says the commercial is one of the spots they're running in their $20 million plus ad buy for the month of May.

The Obama campaign says that keeping college affordable is "a critical part of the President's blueprint" on the economy.

If they're gonna dredge up this old Mommy photo again (geeze, not again?), we might as well dredge up the Jeremiah Wright damning speech!

The LAST thing republicans want is education. The more ignorant you are the more you are likely to vote for them. Please Mr. President keep your focus on education.

Education affordable and attainable? HAhahahahahahahah....I have news for you Mr. President, education has never been affordable nor attainable, unless....someone else paid for it like they did for Barack.

I guess you have to be a minority liberal in this country for education to be affordable and attainable. Let's tell it like it is. Consumers, always riding the backs of producers.

I hope the youth are paying attention. On November 6, kids, turn off the dubstep, put down the bong, and go vote.

FYI: Republican voters are the white, poor and uneducated according to National statistics. This ad by President Obama is for the white, educated and middle class who support him.

    Woman in California – Agreed.
The very base of the GOP are easily swayed and misinformed because of this very reason. The Republican Party cares nothing for the low-income, uneducated folks who vote for them; except maybe to clean the bottom of their RNC shoes on these people’s necks (after they vote of course).

I am so proud of President Obama for making education the priority it needs to be. Republicans have destroyed education, whole school systems, college opportunities and grants in Republican-controlled states and gave the money to corporations...the true leaders of the Republican Party are corporations who create no jobs, pay no taxes, and pay the workers they have left not even a liveable wage.
Education is the key to ending joblessness, preparing our children for the jobs of the future and keeping American first in science, engineering, innovation, technology, new energy sources, research, and solutions that solve world problems. Thank goodness President Obama understands the critical value of education for America's children and for America's place in the world. He is a true leader focused on the correct issues and answers.

I fully support that idea. Please do so as soon as possible. I've got special popcorn picked out just for that occassion. Watching it all backfire on you would be better than any summer blockbuster.

Agreed. A mind is a terrible thing to waste ... and yet, such waste can be seen throughout America on a daily basis. Indeed, ignorance has become "the new norm" to glorify as some sort of status symbol of success.

Republican voters are people who want the stinking Federal Government off their backs and wallets. Republican voters rely on "self reliance" in conducting their lives and understand that in life there is "risks" and having a gigantic, unresponsive, corrupt, wasteful, federal government as a so called "safety net" for all risks in life is unsustainable. It's also called common sense.

Democrat voters want to take the "risk" out of life, they want a perpetual safety net that feeds the beast of the Federal Government. They often don't pay taxes, so they get "representation without taxation" which is a form of robbery on society as a whole as they rely on the hard work and sacrafice of others while contributing essentially nothing to the greater good. The Democrat Party itself is the distrubutor of all the goodies and essentially operates like organized crime. See Chicago for an example.

Republicans want to kill all public education. Why? Unions. Union members will typically vote Democratic, which is a major problem for conservatives. One of the solutions against unions is to dismantle every public job sector that employs unions. Education is an easy target.

The Postal Workers Union has been targeted for destruction by bankrupting the USPS. Corrections officers are another easy target, which is why there has been such a big push to privatize state prisons. The War against Unions is waged in the private sector by passing "right to work state" laws, which effectively deny people the right to unionize.
