Romney to address Latino business summit

(CNN) - Mitt Romney will address a gathering of Latino small business owners next week, furthering his bid to attract voters in a bloc that will prove essential to winning the White House in November.

Romney will speak at the Latino Coalition's Annual Economic Summit in Washington, the group said Friday. Romney's campaign also confirmed the likely GOP nominee would appear at the event.

"Governor Romney's record as a successful business leader, CEO of the organizing committee for the Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, and elected official is replete with cases where he served as an effective advocate for American small businesses," Hector Barreto, The Latino Coalition's chairman, said in a statement. "During his time in government, he proved himself to be a strong advocate for eliminating the red tape that can strangle businesses, a quality that is all the more critical today."

Earlier Friday, Romney's campaign released a Spanish-language version of their first general election ad, which highlights measures Romney would take on his first day as president.

The Hispanic population in the United States has long swung Democratic, most recently supporting Obama and Joe Biden in 2008 by a margin of more than two-to-one over the Republican ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin, 67% to 31%.

However, that is a disparity the Republican Party hopes to combat through their renewed efforts and by pointing to the president's first term in office, most notably the inability to pass immigration reform.

Despite backing from the White House, in 2009 the DREAM Act, which would have provided U.S. residency for immigrant children with high school diplomas, failed in Congress.

In the Republican presidential primary, Romney came under fire for promoting a plan of "self deportation" for illegal immigrants, a policy that involves making economic conditions so difficult for undocumented workers that they choose to leave the country to find better opportunities.

CNN's Jim Acosta and Gabriella Schwarz contributed to this report.

IF he was such a great governor why did the following happen: talk about brainwashed.

Romney spent $3 million of his own money in the race against Kennedy. In the November general election, despite a disastrous showing for Democrats overall, Kennedy won the election with 58 percent of the vote to Romney's 41 percent.
    --------
Are you serious??????????? First... he ran against Kennedy BEFORE he became governor. Second... he was running in his FIRST political contest. Thirs... he was running against a KENNEDY in Massachusetts.

    Get your act together, Shirley.

I like him to explain the republicans attempts to change the voting guide lines in states like Wisconsin and others.Romneys selective amnesia should be working ,he's already had it when asked about the haircut incident, didn't he?What's he going to do when he's in front of millions of people during the debates,he can't go to Joe Ricketts for advise,or can he!They're running in the same foot prints that T BOONE PICKENS took against Kerry, when he ran against Bush Jr.Negetivity was on their agenda, but won't go this time because Democrates and others are aware of their extremist views. That leaves Romney with his pathological lying,he's done it for years at Bain and other times, why stop now,for him to lie in front of Joseph Smith and millions on tv it should be natural, right. If he's caught in a lie,he'll just throw up fecal matter, just like his other vulturistic relatives,no big deal to him,its natural right!!!

When Newt Gingrich was asked "Are you calling Governor Romney a liar?" he quite clearly responded "Yes.'. Newt isn't known for his "truthiness" but he was spot-on-target in this situation.

No we could end up like Georgia, sponging off the Federal Government and all the Blue States that get fewer dollars than they send out. California got into the mess its in because one of its GOP governors (Regan)decided the route to re-election lay in slashing property taxes. Reagan started this idea that cutting taxes somehow results in a balanced budget. Well, we've all see the results of that. Everyone wants great schools, roads and infrastructure, but only the liberals actually understand you have to pay for it, as well as the cost of maintaining it. Typical right-wing garbage that seems to feel paying your bills is a sin. Rightie credit-card economics at work, kicking the can down the road for someone else to pay, complaining all the while.

  20. Obama 2012 - BEND Forward America, take another 4 long years of FAILURE

    Sniffit
"And Romney created more jobs in Mass. alone thaan Obama has created in the entire United States in 4 years"
That is blatantly incorrect. The numbers don't lie:
Romney took office during an economic growth period and the figures show that there were 3,224,600 jobs when he took office. There were 3,270,400 when he left. That’s 45,800 jobs added.
Obama took office during an economic tailspin during which the nation was bleeding jobs at a rate of 750K+/- per month. Since hitting bottom in February 2010, we've added well over 3 MILLION jobs.
These are facts. Yuo can fume and cry and go into a poutrage denial tantrum, but it doesn't change them
    =====================================================================================

So why do you misrepresent the FACT that Obama took office in January of 2009 and start your "facts" nearly a year later in February, 2010? Again, nothing but lies and distortion from the leftists. Include the first year Obama was in office and what I say is TRUE. So now how will you try and deny it? What other misinformation will you post?
