Crossroads spends $10 million to hit Obama on economy

(CNN) – Crossroads GPS, the conservative super PAC co-founded by Karl Rove, announced Tuesday it was spending nearly $10 million to air an attack ad in ten battleground states painting President Barack Obama's economic policies as failures.

Jonathan Collegio, a spokesman for the group, said the buy was part of a larger $25 million purchase announced last week.

The minute-long spot, called "Basketball," will air on network television in a host of states up for grabs in November's general election: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The spot is narrated by an actress playing a woman whose adult children have moved back home after not being able to find good paying jobs.

"It's funny, they can't find jobs to get their careers started, and I can't afford to retire. And now we're all living together again," the woman says in the ad.

She says she voted for Obama in 2008 "because he spoke so beautifully."

"He promised change, but things changed for the worse," the woman says.

In a statement, the president of Crossroads GPS said the ad was reflective of problems faced by real Americans.

"This ad drives home the impact President Obama's policies are having on American families and why those policies need to be changed," Steven Law wrote. "We want there to be a serious debate on the real issues people are facing in this country, and this ad expresses the human element of that debate."

Priorities USA, a super PAC supporting Obama's re-election, responded to the ad on Tuesday with an ad of its own, as well as a statement calling into question the fictional family portrayed in the Crossroads spot. The Priorities ad featured a woman who worked at Bain-owned American Pad and Paper until being laid off after the company went bankrupt.

"I worked at the plant going on 34 years," the woman in the ad, Loris Huffman, said. "I thought that I was going to retire from there. I had about two and a half years to go. I was suddenly 60 years old. I had no healthcare and that's scary. When Mitt Romney did that, he made me sick."

Bill Burton, the co-founder of Priorities USA, said the spot would run as part of its previously announced $4 million purchase and air in Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Burton said the spot was a better reflection of reality than the Crossroads spot.

"They key feature of Karl Rove's ad is using actors to portray a fictional family. In our ads, we portray real life stories of Americans who were devastated by the decisions Mitt Romney made," Burton wrote.

All the President has to do in remind the American voters how the Repubs caused this mess from 2004 to 2008 and How the Repub obstructionist in the HOUSE would not let us out of this mess. AND of course all the RED states trying to restrict voting rights, women rights and American latinos rights, gay rights, etc, etc. Lets see, any Americans not affected by the Repubs restricting rights? Oh yea, Old white men.

Pinellas County Florida is experiencing its best tourist year on record, and every small business owner (real small businesses – the kind that employ fewer than 10 employees) that I know says 2012 is shaping up to be their best business year yet. If these factors aren't indicative of an improving economy I don't know what is. That being said, what kind of degrees do the "college grads" depicted in the ad possess?

A friend of mine just sent me a NRA radio attack ad on Tom Barrett of WI, who is running against the only governor who makes Rick Scott look good, Scott Walker. It appears the NRA is upset that Barrett might have not only banned AK 47s in Milwaukee, but duck hunting in the city limits of Milwaukee. Good luck WI.

True, Democrats have more money to spend than Republicans and Democrats are always crying they don't have enough money.

One must wonder if this is an attempt by Kochroads to depict their skewed version of the "plight of women and mothers under Obama." Let me give you her subtext haha:

"My children are awful and I don't want them living with me. Obama is awful for inflicting them on me because they can't find a job. I have no idea who Goerge W. Bush is or what happened during his presidency as a result of his policies because I was in a coma from January 2000 to January 2009."

I can only speak for myself but 401k up, no thanks to the village idiot and losing half of it in 2007/2008. The company were I work is hiring. Our house has gone up in price if we wanted to sell it. Gas prices are down but I guess the President only gets called out on that when the price goes up. Unemployment is down. Healthcare, unless the old farts in the scotus destroy it, is already working for some and will help most Americans come 2014.
Then again is yiu are filthy rich like the garage elevator man in La Jolla mansion you wouldn't have to worry about the little things in life that keep a roof over your head and food on the table.
BTW a parking spot for your car goes for $1M in NYC and the beauty of it is that you can transform the 10×24 area to add an elevator for another car. How many of us can afford this? Right, the 1% only!!

"...so we're doing ads inventing fake Democrats who are feeling disaffected and dissatisfied in hopes that it will at least suppress Dem voter turnout if it doesn't actually get them to vote for Mittens."

Very true, Democrats have college degrees that get them those high paying jobs in big corporations and that is why Democrats are not hurting for money while Republicans who don't have college degrees get the lesser paying jobs. Democrats' incomes are higher than Republicans.

Rove needs to stand up and admit that HE AND HIS PAL GEORGE W BUSH, ET AL were the failures as far as the
US economy is concerned. THE BUSH WHITE HOUSE FAILURE.

President Obama has done an excellent job of putting the pieces together in a very short period of time given the
total trashing of our economy by the Bush brains. Guess Rove aint too smart!

News flash. The kids can't find jobs because the Republicans have blocked almost every job creating initiative proposed by the President. The Republicans main goal is to destroy the economy and hope that people blame the President for it. What’s really sad is that people will probably blame the President for the mess even thought it was the Republicans that stood in the way of the recovery.
The Republicans will do anything to win back the White House. It means nothing to them if millions of innocent women, children and men go hungry, get sick and die, so long as they (the Republicans) get back in power.

The Republican (Romney) policies include tax cut for the rich, get rid of regulations, cut benefits for the less fortunate, cut investment in education, cut investment in scientific research and development, cut benefits for the old folks that depend on social security, cut assistance for folks that are down on their luck and are looking for some temporary help from Medicaid or Medicare, allow corporations to pollute everything from the air we breathe, water we drink and the food we eat, spend gazillions of our money on wars and unnecessary military toys. These were the exact same policies that caused the greatest recession of our time. How could any sane person think that these policies (that caused the great recession) will get us out of it. I guess about 48% of Americans are so forgetful that they can’t remember what happened in 2007 & 2008. Or that are just plain dumb and stupid. Vote the Republicans in and we will become even more stupid with all the cuts Romney is proposing in education.

I'm sure the DNC didn't have to specifically ask Booker to shoot the new video. They probably just said "Fix this" with maybe an "of else" thrown in. Too bad our political system has become so divisive and polarizing that an official can't have his own opinion without being thrown under the bus. Bain's overall record under Romney was quite good and earned respect from many independent economists. Talking about Bain is fair game, I'm just not sure Obama's going to like how this fight he's picked turns out.

So remember, Wall Street only hires college graduates which means Democrats are the ones getting those nice, big bucks jobs in Wall Street and not Republicans, since Republicans have very few graduating from college. Ummm, and Democrats keep crying poor.

"Very true, Democrats have college degrees that get them those high paying jobs in big corporations and that is why Democrats are not hurting for money while Republicans who don't have college degrees get the lesser paying jobs. Democrats' incomes are higher than Republicans."

Actually, people in both parties come from all walks of life. The GOP tends to grab up the very wealthy with their promises of "if you vote for us, we'll cut your taxes and get rid of programs to help the poor, sick, needy, etc." because I don't care who you are, once people get a taste of that kind of wealth and the lifestyle it brings, there's a real psychological tendency to start believing things like "I'm better than the rest of this unwashed mess of humanity" and "I owe nothing to nobody." Generally, wealthy, self-interested people with little to no sense of responsibility/obligation to the rest of society or the nation that made them wealthy tend to be fairly well educated too, not just the stereotypical "academic liberals in their ivory towers." It all runs the gamut.

The recession of 2008 was a joke. It wasnt the recession the economy wanted to have. Government/Fed intervention through stimulus only stalled whats coming. We need to understand that the recession is good for the economy. The booms are the problem, the recession is the cure. All we do now is kick the can down the road. However, were just about out of road.

Think of a drug addict going through withdrawal. Its a painful process, but ultimately you come out cured on the other side. Our economy is hooked on this easy money and needs to go cold turkey. The period of saving and restructuring will indeed be painful, but we will emerge with an appropriate economy and a bright future defined by not only spending but producing and saving.

An interesting fact i came across which i think is significant, is that of the 30 richest people america has ever produced, adjusted for inflation, only three were born after the civil war. And only one was born after WWII.

People hate on profits as unjust and greedy, but this world exists on business purusing their seperate interests in an attempt to make money. Jobs are a by product of that. Do you know some society that doesnt run on greed? Do you think China doesnt run on greed? Do you think Russia doesnt run on greed?

Paul Ryan's budget plan is designed to sell Americans off to private equity companies for profit, that was also GWB's plan and Romney endorses Ryan's budget. You better listen up. Ryan's claims his budget will reduce the deficit, the only deficit it will reduce is that of private equity companies as they buy and sell off Americans like livestock for profit. You better listen up people.
