Arizona secretary of state closes Obama birth certificate matter

(CNN) - Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett wrote in a statement Wednesday his office had received the necessary information about President Barack Obama's birth certificate to put the matter to rest.

"Late yesterday, our office received the 'verification in-lieu of certified copy' from officials within the Hawaii Department of Health that we requested in March," Bennett wrote. "They have officially confirmed that the information in the copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for the President matches the original record in their files."

Bennett said last week that he may refuse to put the president on the ballot in November unless the state of Hawaii authenticated Obama's birth certificate, the long form of which the White House released in April 2011.

Bennett, a co-chairman of likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's Arizona campaign, said he was only doing so at the request of his constituents.

"As Arizona's chief elections officer, I have the responsibility to certify the ballot to the state's 15 counties," Bennett wrote in Wednesday's statement. "At the request of numerous constituents, I merely asked Hawaiian officials to verify the information contained within President Obama's original birth certificate. They have complied with the request and I consider the matter closed."

....now can we get physical proof that Mitt Romney has a brain? They can remove it, show the audience &reinstall on Geraldo's show ....would be a perfect venue. Same as Orly Taitz' request for the President's birth certificate....

Who knows how many taxpayer dollars were spent to find out what most of us already knew? Those who insist on this proof, should pay for the cost of the inquiry.

Anyone supporting the birther notion by this point in time should have voting privileges revoked for 5 years. If you don't recognize the legitimacy of the us presidency, how are you qualified to determine any level of political position?

Shame on Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett for even making this an issue! I hope he's happy with his 5 minutes of publicity! He gives Arizona a very BAD name!

It's a total embarrassment as a long-time resident of Arizona to see how politicians here continue to act like total morons and bring up idiotic issues, such as this one. On the other hand, if the Republicans can't stifle this lunacy among their own, doesn't that simply indicate how inherently flawed they are as a collective group in terms of the sort of people they attract to be part of their party? I hope voters take note as to the typical backer of absurd issues like this one and cast their votes intelligently in November.

Can I see Mitt Romney's birth certificate please. Because I haven't seen it before and I don't believe he is an American citizen and we all have a right to know. I'm just asking, like Bennett and the idiots he represents.

The question remains the same; WHERE IS THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?!

All we hear from Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett is that Hawaii officials say that “everything is ok-doe-ky”. If that is the case, WHERE IS THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?!

Let me get this straight – The Arizona Secretary of State has the power/authority not to put President Obama on the ballot in November and he is also co-chairman of Mitt Romney's Arizona campaign? You must be kidding!

In all fairness, shall we demand to see Mr. Romney"s authenticated birth certificate as well? Was he born in this Country? I don't know. I have doubt too.

How embarrassing for AZ. I sometimes drive by one of those WND billboards when traveling (this particular one in PA), that originally shouted "Show us the birth certificate!", but was revised to now bellow "Show us the REAL birth certificate". Sad, just sad. Makes me cringe every time I see it. But, living in a very conservative community, I hear/read that delusional stuff all the time. What is wrong with people?

Maybe the nut cases in Arizona and other" birthers" would have fun playing with the following baloney! LOL

Is Mitt Romney a “natural born citizen”? It is absolutely clear that Mitt Romney is NOT a Natural Born Citizen unless he can prove that George Romney gained citizenship from naturalization prior to Mitt’s birth in 1947.
