Romney-Trump 2012?

(CNN) – The Donald says it's the buzz.

Asked Friday in a guest appearance on ABC's "The View" if he was interested in joining Mitt Romney's presidential ticket, Donald Trump asked, "Who would turn it down?"

"A lot of people are asking that question," he added. Not known for his modesty, Trump said, "A lot of people are asking that question. I think probably that won't happen, but I'll do anything I can to help this country get balanced again because we are a mess."

Trump endorsed Romney in February, and is scheduled to participate in a fundraiser on Tuesday at his Las Vegas casino with Romney and former GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich.

Trump has become a vocal and effusive backer of Romney in television appearances and on social media. Before endorsing Romney, he met with several of the GOP presidential candidates and even announced a presidential debate, which was later canceled when several candidates declined the invite.

He said Friday that he was performing well in polling at the time. Although he briefly fared well in national polls early in the election cycle, several surveys from last spring showed a majority voters ultimately disapproving of a Trump candidacy. One released hours before he announced he would not seek the White House showed seven out of ten Americans saying he had "no chance" of winning the election.

Trump brings perceived baggage to the Romney campaign, including his questioning of President Barack Obama's birthplace and birth certificate. He and other prominent conservatives have raised questions about Obama's birth, as "natural born" U.S. citizenship is a requirement for the presidency.

"Donald Trump has become the 'birther' in chief," Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for Obama's re-election campaign, said on MSNBC Friday.

Though Trump tweeted as recently as last Friday "Let's take a closer look at that birth certificate," Kevin Madden, a Romney adviser, said Friday that questions about Trump's views on Obama's nationality should be a thing of the past.

"When you endorse someone, you are basically signing onto their views," Madden said on MSNBC.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a senior adviser to Romney, on Friday said, "I can't speak for Donald Trump ... but I can tell you that Mitt Romney accepts that President Obama was born in the United States."

"He doesn't view the place of his birth as an issue in this campaign," Fehrnstrom said on CNN's "The Situation Room."

Obama released the long-form version of his birth certificate in April 2011 that shows he was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961. Soon after it was released, Trump announced he would not make a bid for the GOP presidential nomination.

Trump made light of the issue in his appearance on "The View," when one of the co-hosts handed him a slip of paper and called it her birth certificate.

"I'd like to see Obama's," he quipped.

also@alyarby...And no! The BLOWFISH will never hold elective office. There aren't THAT many stupid people in America. Flopper declined Dodo's ridiculous debate, but he will accept his endorsement. Show's just how desperate he is.

He just shows what a joke the GOP is. I am too poor to be a rich Republican, and too bright to be a poor Republican. So I'll stick with the fading middle class the GOP wants to pay for everything and President Obama, who is at least trying to give back some of what they've stolen via the Gingrich-led tax revision of 1994 that gives the first 62 cents of each tax dollar saved to the top 3%.

The Trump Hotel in Las Vegas is a non-gaming hotel... so the statement that Trump is going to host an event in his Las Vegas casino is incorrect.

Any self-respecting republicans should be offended by Trump – and romneys obvious sucking up to him. Trumps blatantly cynical birtherism is an insult to anyone with more than 2 live brain cells – he thinks folks are stupid enough to buy that tripe. He's playing those folks and the republican party as witless rubes. Yet, not one republican has the cajones to stand up and tell him to shut up. Romneys going to hold hands and fundraise and campaign with him. That alone is enough to disqualify him for the presidency. What a horrific display of lack of judgement and complete lack of character. C'mon republicans where's your sense of dignity and intelligence?

@Maggie53 and others on this blog spewing lunatic- rhetorical untruths brought to you in part by Fox news and friends. What has this President done to deserve such hatred? I know maybe it's the Lilly Ledbetter fair pay act or the Health Care reform bill so that everyone can have affordable health care! No it has to be the killing of Osama Bin Laden (you know that terrorist Bush gave up pursuing) or pulling our troops out of Iraq. I think people like you Miss Maggie53 just don't see the goodness and vision this President has through your ignorance and intolerance.
I don't get thinking like this in this day and age! I could believe it when I was a young girl growing up but that was during the 60s when peoples minds were so closed and not as willing to except change. Call me an optimist but perhaps things have not changed that much!
Anyway peace and love to those in the blogoshere!!

Donald Trump wishes people were considering him as a potential running mate. No one and I mean no one with any credibility thinks a Romney- Trump ticket is going to happen. This is why no one takes the news seriously. As an editor an article like that should never see the light of day in a reputable publication or website. Stop making crack pots legitimate by giving them attention. This is at best a tabloid story that should be next to "Nostradamus right about Armageddon; Mayans wrong".

Romney has some good choices that can be made; Trump may be a good VP for him also; he would be the man to handle the China Trade; that alone would save many millions of American jobs; hispanics coming over here and doing jobs that Americans simply won't do, is nothing to be compared to this China royal rip-off; our firms going over there is one thing; but getting all these goods made over there is something else; it is killing us; and we do need to know who is coming over the borders, and if they plan to stay through permanet status or not; six months is long enough for them to seek citizenship; after that; deportation should begin; we cannot be a country with open borders, and stay soverign, financially secure.

Trump won't capture the GOP's VP slot. And Obama won't win the election, proving that he is nothing more than a one-term president – with a lower case "p." And both of those are highly favorable outcomes for the U.S.

Your right about the Donald not being VP. As for who wins in November you don't know !

It really depends on the 18 to 25 and veteran voters.
Most vets won't vote for Romney .

Romney is smarter than McCain...Trump would be a worst choice than Palin and we all saw how well that turned out.

Biden in Obama ticket has been a MISTAKE already. Unfortunately, Obama was elected by DEFAULT with helps from iresponsible media/rebels(just try to prove that the US is not racism. ) American has paid for the price in the last 3 1/2 years and I hope that Ronmey will not make the same mistake.
I do not like Ronmey much, but have no choice to vote for him if he will be nomined.

For people who continue to critisize our president...I'like to point out several things...first he has worked hard for three plus years without any help, which would be expected from the other party in our form of government and for the entire time they have admited that they intended to defeat anything he tried to do,but he has had the courage to keep going. I might also point out that we could have had McCain with Sarah Palin as VP! Would that have been more to your liking??? You'd be better informed if you stopped getting your information{?} from Faux news!!!!!
