Gingrich: Obama an 'American-born job-killing president'

(CNN) – Newt Gingrich, speaking outside an event raising money for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, said the event's host, Donald Trump, was not distracting the Republican Party with his questions about the president's birth certificate.

"Gov. Romney's not distracted," Gingrich said in Las Vegas. "The Republican Party's not distracted. We believe that this is an American-born job-killing president. Other people may believe that he was born somewhere else and still kills jobs, but that's an argument over background."

Gingrich's comments came as Romney and Trump convened with campaign donors at Trump's International Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip for a fundraising event that was expected to bring in millions of dollars for the presumptive GOP nominee. Romney has been under pressure from Democrats to condemn Trump for his questioning of President Barack Obama's place of birth.

Gingrich, who battled Romney for the GOP nomination before dropping his bid in April, said he personally believed President Obama was born in Hawaii, and is thus constitutionally eligible to be president, and that the focus should remain on the president's jobs creation record.

Asked if the so-called "birther" conspiracy had racist undertones, Gingrich pointed to other African-American politicians who do not face similar lines of questioning.
"I know that there is a desperate need to attach racism to everything, but in fact I think that Donald Trump said what he said because he thinks that it's the right thing for him to say," Gingrich said.

He continued, "Nobody runs around and asks whether Col. [Allen] West was born in the United States. He's an African-American, you know. He's a congressman. Nobody runs around and says was Tim Scott born in the United States. He's a congressman. He's an African-American. So the idea of asserting that any charge against Obama somehow manages magically in the media to get back to racism, I think it is just one more device to protect Obama."

Gingrich said he wasn't about to suggest to Trump what he should and shouldn't say. Asked if Trump was a "loose cannon," Gingrich quipped the celebrity business magnate was a "loose entrepreneur."

"He has made his fame by being who he is," Gingrich said.

CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

So the numbers are lies, just like the birth certificate Newt? You know the numbers. Unemployment down, jobs up. Yeah, real job killer. Why don't you find something real to attack him on, instead of your fear-mongering baloney?

"We're not distracted," said Gingrich. "That's why we keep talking about it, in order to prove we're not distracted by it!"

On a serious note, nice doublespeak by Gingrich there that suddenly the Birthers are PROTECTING Obama's chances to win. Like Obama planned the whole Birther movement back in 2008 just so he could get re-elected. I think America is a little tired with the GOP's knee-jerk "I'm rubber, you're glue" reaction to any question as to why no one is believing the rhetorics of the Republicans anymore.

Well, at least he said American-born. But he forgets that congress ran on jobs, jobs, jobs and has not advanced one bill that the President could sign. Maybe he should follow Lugar's lead and not campaign for his former opponent, or look like a fool.

How is Obama a job killing president when Congress is stale, disgusting, and will not cooperate with this president?
This entire republican set up scheme is a fiasco and will become the republican’s downfall.
Republicans are: Trying to make this election personal, trying to undermine this president/ blocking eligible legal folks from voting as they did before with Bush/ they cannot see that this will not work.
It is a shame to see a non-qualified idiot running for president that can only cheat and connive for the presidency.
They say one thing and do totally the opposite. “As the world watches in disgust”

These are such rotten people. The wonderful American Values represented by pro adultery candidate Newt G, pro birther Don T and Mr. "Corporations are people too my friend" Romney. How does anybody with a low income and brain support these guys.. Oh... never mind.. I think I just answered myself....

I don't see how Obama is a "job killing" president? How is it that happening? I'd like a clear and reasoned answer as to how that is happening. Somehow I don't think that is going to happen. It is hard to identify what really "kills jobs." There are so many factors. Where I work, I hear from a lot of business owners and accountants who don't seem to have a clue.

Of course, no one calls the lesser players foreign born. A black congressman is not seen as being as dangerous to the GOP as a black president.
no one did as much damage to the economy or killed as many jobs as Bush and Romney, yet, they all point at Obama and say he has killed jobs. He has killed jobs because he wants to prevent banks from gambling with our money. He wants wall street to stop taking big risks with our money. He wants the rich to pay their fair share of taxes. This is not killing jobs.
If cutting taxes on the wealthy created jobs then we should have a labor shortage. We have been cutting taxes on the wealthy since Reagan came to office 32 years ago.

The Republican Party starts the distractions! They want any distraction to keep people from remembering how we got in the recession and who obstructed all progress. They want us to forget about the wars they started, the cut & spend economics, and the Tea Party radicals with the racist signs. We won't forget.

Over 8.5 million jobs were lost BEFORE President Obama took office. As usual, Newt is a lying little weasel.

I would really like to hear a Republican back up their job killing statements with some facts.Name the factual jobs that were killed because of President Obama,I am not talking about the jobs lost from the economic disaster by GW Bush but actual jobs that were lost as a direct result of Obama. The party of trickle down economics that has proven a failure for the last decade still think more tax breaks will make the country all better again and it is about time they back up their verbal vomit.

Newt needs to stop carrying water for racists, and he needs to wash himself of his own racist overtones. He knows very well that race is behind the birthed scandal. Just look at his examples; to congressmen, compared to a president. There was never an issue as to the citizenship of Senator Obama prior to becoming a candidate for president.

None of the blacks that he mention are in positions to be a threat to the Republican Party, so of course they don't get the "he's not one of us" treatment. His remarks smack of the "I have friends who are......." that bigots throw out there to show what egalitarians they are. Gingrich seems to spend an inordinate amount of time thinking up euphemisms for un-American and "not like us" or "not one of US". Pure evil, he makes me physically ill.

How many jobs did Moonbeam Gingrich kill when he stopped his campaign due to lack of interest from sane people ? How many jobs would he have killed with his promise of $2.50 a gallon gas ? Surely there must have been millions of jobs killed when he halted his moon colony project. Newt should shut up and pay off the deficit he ran up while pretending he could run for President

It is amazing how people criticize the President without ever having done anything positive for the country or offering anything useful themselves. All they want is “that one” (what an insult to the President and the country!) to fail.

He's good, he's real GOOD, Next I want to hear him explain how when the sky turns pink it's because of the blood shed tears of our lord and Savior weeping for the sorrow that our president has put us through....a politician is a story teller who can twist meaning and direction of any given word. Be it on either side of the political spectrum. When the going gets tough people, you need to try and get tougher. Don't rely on these morons to decide your fate. You have choices and feet to get back up. I'm not delusional as to the difficulty but out of experience, it is possible.

Its not black or white. The jobs are gone and not coming back. The smart Dems & Repubs shipped them out the country for profit and advoid paying the US worker a decent wage. Its either minimun wage & foreclosure or a Billionare with a hedge fund. Come next January, it will be even worse for whoever is elected, and we will be walking around like zombies.

No wonder Gingrich is a failed politican. He will say anything needed depending on the election cycle. Personaly, I respect rasicts more than republicans that are just using this birther crap for political gain, that includes Gingrich.
