
(CNN) – After failing to get on the ballot for his re-election bid, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan announced Tuesday he will run as a write-in candidate for the Republican primary in the state's 11th Congressional District.
The congressman, who made a fleeting bid for president last year, said Friday that state officials notified him his petitions were insufficient and contained irregularities.

CNN: Romney doesn’t back away from ‘birther’ Trump
Mitt Romney said Monday he wasn’t concerned about Donald Trump’s commitment to the “birther” conspiracy, one day before the GOP presidential candidate hosts a fund-raiser alongside the celebrity business magnate. Asked on his charter plane whether Trump’s questioning of President Barack Obama’s birthplace gave him pause, Romney simply said he was grateful for all his supporters.

President Barack Obama used a Memorial Day ceremony to say it is time for America to properly welcome home Vietnam veterans and show them and their families the respect and gratitude they deserved but didn't receive decades ago. "You came home and sometimes were denigrated when you should have been celebrated," Obama said beneath a scorching sun at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. "It was a national shame, a disgrace that should have never happened. That's why here today, we resolve that it will not happen again."
