Poll: Romney favorability rating increases

(CNN) – Mitt Romney received a jump in his favorability rating aided by increased support among female voters, according to a new survey.

The Washington-Post ABC News poll released Wednesday showed 41% of Americans held a positive view of the all-but-certain Republican presidential nominee. Although Romney still trails President Barack Obama's 52%, he experienced a six-point bump from results released just over a month ago.

When broken down by registered voters, Obama and Romney received split results. Forty-nine percent of registered voters saw Obama in a positive light, while 48% did not. When the same group was asked for their opinions of Romney, 44% held a positive view and 44% held a negative one. The new figures were the first time since January that voter attitudes did not shift away from the former Massachusetts governor, according to the poll.

The improving trend mirrored a similar Gallup poll released earlier in May that indicated 50% of Americans polled held a favorable view of Romney, an 11-point jump since February.

Wednesday's figures were helped by momentum among Republican women, 80% of whom said they hold a favorable view of Romney. He received a 59% rating last month.

Although the favorability gap has closed, Romney still failed to generate the same level of enthusiasm among his base as Obama. Nearly six-in-ten Democrats were "strongly favorable" about Obama, while just 35% of Republicans said the same of Romney.

The Washington Post and ABC News polled 1,021 adults via telephone between May 23 and May 27 with a sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Disgusting Mitt will never be well-liked–he's too stiff, too dishonest and willing to sell out to the highest bidder. He's totally out of touch with average working people.

Thank goodness women are starting to realize that jobs, careers is more important than getting free birth control, free abortions. Let's be honest, most looking for a free abortion are college girls, teenage girls who can't ask mom and dad for the money and women who worked and just don't want to pay for it themselves. Yes, there are cases of lower income, rape that needs to be taken care of but the high number goes to the other women. Romney is a job creator so logically women are moving over to his corner.

Women saw through Obama's false allegations of a "War on Women." They know that Obama is waging a real War on the Future of Our Children by pushing spending that our children and grandchildren will never be able to repay.

Still spinning to help Mittens, I see. The real story is that Obama still maintains large leeads over Mittens in terms of favorability and enthusiam among his base, but taht little factoid gets buried in the end of the article in favor of trumping up (pun intended) Mittens so the MSM can continune to paint the "neck-and-neck horse race" narrative to get peopel to "tune in" and see their advertisements.

"Romney is a job creator so logically women are moving over to his corner."

REPUBLICAN women. Did you not read the article? This si not indicative of Mittens winning over independent women and/or the unlikely scenario of him grabbing women voters from Obama's supporters. PAY. ATTENTION. AND. READ. THE. ARTICLE. CAREFULLY.

Women won't forget what Robmey is about. His ideas for Planned Parenthood, funding to the UN for AIDS education, his pro life stance, and the many, many GOP governors that are getting rid of planned parenthood left and right, and also the kings of transvaginal ultrasounds. Contraception is a fine point, although it adds to many more things that are wars on women. Wait until November and the women will speak loud and clear.

Wait 'til they start reading about his policies, that is, if he bothers to release them before the election.

So, GOP women are reluctantly voting for the candidate the plutocrats have picked for them? Why is that news? I guess his approval rating is about the same as it was when he was governor, when he raised fees on everything in sight, then abandoned MA after 2 years.

The problem with Romney is that he out of touch with what the average person is. He is still pandering to the right which won't get him elected.

If Romney is elected, I just hope the Dems treat him much better than how Obama has been treated. The Republican congress should probably be in jail for what they have done to Obama. They have killed job bills, stopped appointments, stopped any work getting done by procedurals "tricks", and most importantly, set records (since the beginning of this country) for the most filibusters. Putting it plainly, they have brought this country to a standstill for political reasons.

personally I don't trust polls even if I like the results they give me. So they poll 500 people and found that the women polled LIKED Mitt so now ALL women like Mitt. Kind of like the vets that were polled.....I bet most of them were the same vets, white males over 50 that do NOT vote Democrat anyway plus add in the Obama not looking like them thing and that just adds fuel to the fire. So this "I didn't like Mitt last week, but I like him now" stuff doesn't really fly with me. But America as much as I love my country is a fikle nation.
