(CNN) – Republicans scored big in Wisconsin Tuesday when Gov. Scott Walker fended off a recall vote, but Democrats appeared to eke out a victory in the state senate, where local news organizations reported Democrats taking control after winning their own recall attempts.
Four Republican senators faced recall votes Tuesday. At least three held on to their seats, but former Sen. John Lehman, a Democrat, declared victory in ousting incumbent Sen. Van Wanggaard. The vote was extremely close, and results have not been certified, CNN affiliate WTMJ reported.

(CNN) - A new survey indicates President Barack Obama with a 12-point lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney in Pennsylvania.
According to a Franklin and Marshall College Poll released Wednesday, 48% of registered voters in Pennsylvania say they back the president, with 36% saying they support Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presumptive GOP presidential nominee. Twelve percent were unsure.

(CNN) – A poll released Wednesday showed Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli holding a commanding lead over his rival in the state's Republican gubernatorial primary, set to take place next year.
Cuccinelli, who will face Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling in 2013, led his rival 51%-15%, the Quinnipiac University survey indicated. Cuccinelli's popularity among Virginia GOP voters was also reflected in the two men's approval ratings: 70% of Republicans approved of the job Cuccinelli is doing as attorney general, compared to 48% who approve of Bolling. The two men's approval ratings were more similar among all voters.

(CNN) - California's vote on a controversial cigarette tax remained too close to call Wednesday morning, although votes counted so far suggest it was narrowly rejected.
With all precincts reporting, the tally was 50.8% against the proposal and 49.2% in support of it, according to the California Secretary of State website.

FBI spokesman Paul Bresson had no comment on the reported investigation.
