Congressional leaders call for halt to 'cascade of leaks'

Washington (CNN) – Congressional leaders agreed Thursday on the need for a full investigation of what one called a recent "cascade" of leaked classified information but differed on exactly how the inquiry should be conducted.

After meeting with Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, the top Democrats and Republicans on the intelligence committees of the House and Senate pledged a bipartisan effort to halt the leaks now and pass legislative changes to prevent future leaks.

It has become very clear the Obama Adminstration has been leaking massive amounts of classified information in order to make Obama look tough and to take credit for secret operations. In the process, they have severely damaged this country's future operations, damaged relationships with other cooperating agencies in other countries, endangered lives, compromised techniques, and much more. All to get Obama re-elected. The Obama adminstration needs to be removed as they are NOT placing this country's security above their own partisan political agenda. They endanger ALL OF OUR LIVES.

Actually they should supboena the author Sanger who wrote the book which included some "leaks". He is profiting financially from his book which some might say is jeopardizing national security. He needs to give his sources. Also, the Times needs to be held accountable too. Publishing sensitive information to sell papers makes them no better than Wikileaks and others. I have often heard security experts on news shows such as CNN giving information that I thought should not have been made public. One of the most common is Fran Townsend. She often says things that have made me wonder. Anyway, I hope they get to the bottom of it. Actually everyone already knows they do drone strikes, that they have Al Queda guys on the hit list and that cyber attacks go on all the time in all areas so really none of it is new news. I guess it gives the media something to get stirred up about.

What about the other side using people to make the Obama Administration look bad. The current administration doesn't need to show they are superb in dealing with foreign matters. That one has been put inside the bag already. Eliminating the biggest fugitive bin Laden and others sums up all.

If the leak came from inside the WH, it was most likely from one of the many hold-overs from the previous administration. the Obama Admin needs to fire and investigate every individual from the previous admin who wasn't given the boot on November 20, 2009.

What are you talking about? Trying to stop the leaks and find out who has been damaging the country and endangering ALL of us? These leaks are coming out of the Obama adminstration and they have a DUTY to get them stopped. Like many other things though, they have chosen to disregard that duty as it interferes with their primary duty of trying to get re-elected. If they won't take these duties seriously, I am glad there are others willing to press the issue and protect the American people.

How about "hunting" for jobs Mr. Cornyn, Obama's handling America's security quite well, the lack of intelligence was with your buddy Bush.

"Loose lips sink ships" remember that from WW II? There is just too much loose talk in D.C. Computers just make it easier to get your hands on it. No one has yet created a cypher that is unbreakable or security software that some hacker can get through. Plus person within the intellgence community who betray their country for money or some misguded idea they are doing the right thing to expose these secrets. Get the blood hounds after them, try them for treason, and if guilty give them the maxiumn penalty including the firing squad. Jail time don't scare them so

If you agree that the current administration adopted the same techniques in combating terrorism, which were handed over to them by the previous admin, you should agree that both parties are aware of all informations and not only one side.

Is this a leftist Democrat's version of a "legitimate investigation"??!! A purge based on hire date and loyalty to Obama??!!Honestly, I can't believe somebody would post such insanity in a public forum.

Security is based on levels and a need to know basis. It has nothing to do with parties or intelligence techniques. It is one of two option. Somebody with proper clearance and a need to know has knowingly violated laws with regards to the release of secret information. Or somebody without proper clearance has gained access to secret information and released it. BOTH of these are violations of the law and I don't give a damn what party they might belong to, I want them ARRESTED and TRIED and if found guilty, punished to the fullest extent of the law. LIVES count on this system working properly.

@peace "The current administration doesn't need to show they are superb in dealing with foreign matters."

As a liberal voter who voted for Obama I want an explanation of why he promised to reduce terrorist threats of attacks by his foreign policy, but we are still just as threatened. His failed promise to close Guantanamo and end tribunals, his robot drones, continued military adventurism, and military spending in Libya to protect OIL might all have something to do with it. Yes he has some explaining to do. The world press outside of the US media is not kind to him.

    @Silence DoGood
Whatever measure Pres. Obama is taking to avoid attacks, he is doing it in good faith. He raised his one hand and the other on bible while sworn in, that he promised to protect every American. This is what he is continuing to do up to now.

So you basically agree that Cheney and crew should be prosecuted for naming Valerie Plame as an undercover CIA operative ? Good.. where was your indignation over that leak. Oh, wait.. that was under GOP rule so it was OK because it was GOBP biz as usual.

Delusional, you have an aptly named handle... did you forget Liddy? Did you forget a certain VP leaking the name of an undercover CIA operative for political retribution? How convenient. Did you forget 9/11. That did NOT happen under the Obama administration, or is that now his fault too? Delusional is right!

  17. Wake up people

This is exactly like the SS scandal. Rethuglicans jumped all over it trying to blame President Obama for doing something that could jeopardize his and his family lives. Rethuglicans love faux outrage. Remember Hilary Rosen's TRUE statement about Anne Robmey? They jumped all over that. Anything to attempt to paint President Obama in a negative light. But who is really doing damage to our country? The GOP/baggers in Congress that have allowed our credit rating to be downgraded and will do absolutely nothing to help our President move this country forward. But they think everyone is as stupid as most of their inbred hick supporters. Well they will see come November, when Robmey and Anne are on their way to La Jolla and President and Mrs. Obama are waving from their home, the White House.

    OBAMA 2012!

    And your evidence is.......

    ...nonexistant.

Thanks for playing. The accusation does not equal the conviction no matter how stupidly the MSM behaves.

Has Dick Cheney chimed in yet?
I for one am pretty satisfied at the job Obama's been doing.

    Lets tally up the scores...
Cascade of Leaks on Obama's watch + 1 lost drone, 1 lost stealth heli, most of the terrorist leaders DEAD, Kaadaffi dead.

Cascade of leaks during Bush's watch + 2 world trade towers lost, 3000 American civilians dead, Saddam dead.

I think the black dude won...

Answer a very simply question. Who stands to benefit the most from the release of this secret information? Answer: Barack Obama. There, now use that as a starting point just like any good detective would and use the very limited access to this information to narrow the suspect list. Then strap them up to lie detectors. Anybody refusing should be immediately fired and investigated further. Search homes, search phone records, but do what it takes to shut down this flood of secret information out of the Obama adminstration. The lawlessness of this adminstration is breath taking. And the head of the Justice Dept. is too busy sueing every state in the country to protect the rights of illegals to get involved in this!!
