Fund-raising frenzy for Obama and Romney

(CNN) - The battle for big bucks kicks into high gear Tuesday as campaigning takes a backseat to fund-raising for President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

The president could raise at least $3.6 million at six fundraisers he's attending in Maryland and Pennsylvania. According to a campaign official, Obama is the main attraction at an event in Owings Mills, Maryland, followed by two more in Baltimore. The president then makes the very short hop from Baltimore to Philadelphia, where he's the center of attention at three fundraisers at the Franklin Institute.

All proceeds from the event to go the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee of the Obama re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties.

After holding a campaign event in Orlando, Florida, Romney will be the main attraction at a couple of fund-raisers. According to a campaign official, 150 tickets have been sold for a photo reception, general reception and a private luncheon, with ticket prices ranging from $2,500 to $50,000. The presumptive Republican nominee then heads to Franklin, Tennessee for another fundraiser.

Romney raised around $3 million at a couple of high dollar events Monday evening in Atlanta.

While Obama held the early edge in the race for campaign cash, Romney outraised the president last month. The Romney campaign reports it and the Republican National Committee raised a combined $76.8 million in May, compared to the more than $60 million the Obama campaign says it and the Democratic National Committee brought in last month.

Then-Sen. Obama broke all records in raising around $750 million in the 2008 cycle, more than tripling the money brought in by Sen. John McCain, the GOP presidential nominee. But it should be a much more even money race this time around, especially when you factor in the independent super PACs (Republican groups are out-raising their Democratic counterparts), which didn't exist four years ago.

"Florida makes Chicago politics look fair and honest". This is the type of mindset that the liberals embrace! No wonder this country is in trouble....but not as bad as Illinois...Yet!

Yes, it's all about the money. You can't win a campaign without gobs of money. So much for democracy.

Thanks to the US Supreme Court the fat-cats will be able to buy the Republican lap-dog of their choice. Romney looked like a good choice until he started talking and flip-flopping on every singel issue. His tendancy to lie rather than tell the truth will cause independent voters to turn away. The man has no actual convictions but simply says whatever he thinks will win votes from each specific crowd. He is apparently unaware of video that records his speeches..

My prediction: If Obama raises more money than Romney it will be proof the people support his efforts and a referendum on the conservative policies. If Romney raises more money it will be proof corporate America is buying the election and stealing it from the American people.

Learn to Fish, the bulk of President Obama's campaign cash comes from millions of small contributions from millions of individuals whereas the bulk of romney's campaign cash comes from a small number of billionaires, so your statement is correct.

Florida is corrupt but nothing justifies their rercent voter purge . They have just slide further down the list of awful places to live and places with corrupt leaders. If Americans really valued their voting irghts, they would be screaming in Florida right now. People are careless because what the Gov has done to minorites and Seniors there could be done to the rest of us tomorrow. Good for the AG for suing.

All senators, congressman, and all government officials who have taken a bribe, planned for sake of greed, took not their brothers account and safety in considerations of their decisions, and any evil thing SHOULD REPENT AND TURN FROM their ways; and the land will be healed and peace will come.

Malory Archer - Provisional ballots aren't counted in Florida, so filling one out is an exercise in futility.

Thank you Supreme Court. You've deftly taken the election out of the hands of the middle-class and given it to the wealthy. That candidate who has the riches superpac and can dominate the media wins.

At the end of the day its a spending contest. It's disgusting and very sad. Obcene amounts of money will be spent on advertising to ensure America's demise. Either way Obama or Romney have nothing to offer but failure. If this is what our two political parties have to offer and this is the best they can do then we need more options.

But this is EXACTLY what Obama did in 2008. He dclined public financing after sayin ghe would take it so he could raise HUGE sums of money and vastly outspend McCain. But that is somehow different because you support Obama.

You whining leftists just can't stand being on a "level playing field" which you always claim you want. Welcome to democracy and freedom of speech. And BTW, the rich person gets ONE vote, just like everybody else.

Mr. President – Where are the JOBS that you promised?
We WANT private sector jobs that MAKE money and grow the economy.

Public sector jobs primarily do NOT make money. Big difference. Don't you know...
When was the last time teachers, police, firefighters, postal workers, park rangers, public services workers etc made
    any real profitable money ????

I don't care who you support or who you are against. But all I can think of is how come people can open their pocketbooks so widely and easliy for a political campaign, but not to buy goods and services to help the ailing economy. Just think what a billion or so would do for small businesses.

I am not a Republican, but it is obvious that the only liars on most of the political ads and other statements (leaks?) are the Democrats, and of course, the clueless/divisive man at the head of the ticket.
    ------------------------------------------------------------–
Ahhh... another Fox News drone. Have you heard of the "birthers"? How about the "death squads coming for Granny"? Have the men in black Suburbans "come to get your guns" yet? Recall Palin's "pallin' around with terrorists" comment? Remember the "swift boat" lies? How about when they accused the war hero Murtha of not being "patriotic"? Hell, they did the same thing to John McCain in a primary race. Ever hear a Democrat call "91 members of Congress communists"? Remember when the asked Newt Gingrich if "he was calling Mitt Romney a liar'? His response was "absolutely". Let's not forget "Mr. Crappy-pants" Ted Nugent in his rants... Oh yeah... the Republicans are a class act. You're delusional.

@Matt. What? Here I'm talking about illegal aliens attempting to vote and you are talking about them being deported?? What does one thing have to do with another? I am talking about taking away the rights of Americans. What is wrong with baggers/rethugs? Can't you read?? Oh I forgot, stupidity is a republican/bagger requirement.

Back to the subject....Here in Detroit we have an area known as Southwest. A lot of Hispanics live there. (Heck, I'm over there at least once a week for the food myself. I love Mexican food) Anywho about a year ago ICE agents were sitting outside the schools in Southwest, pulling everyone over, suspecting they were illegals. I remember so many people were so tired of being harassed, they stopped bringing their children to school. Is this what this country founded by immigrants is coming to?

    Wake up, nice one.
How about in Arizona too, you go right back where you came from and they are doing it by racial profiling.By Jan Brewer, the GOP princess. Some of the immigration laws that we currently have are from the Bush policies inacted back then.
