Obama administration stops deporting young immigrants

Washington (CNN) - In an election-year policy change, the Obama administration said Friday it will stop deporting young illegal immigrants who entered the United States as children if they meet certain requirements.

The shift on the politically volatile issue of immigration policy prompted immediate praise from Latino leaders who have criticized Congress and the White House for inaction, while Republicans reacted with outrage, saying the move amounts to amnesty - a negative buzz word among conservatives - and usurps congressional authority.

Wolf Blitzer's full interview with Janet Napolitano airs Friday afternoon on CNN's "Situation Room," from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET

amending my previous comment, I am pleased to learn that this will be a work permit rather than a path to citizenship. It's a mixed sword however, I had hoped for actual immigration reform. Not an election year offer for votes.

But, we are still deporting their parents who brought them here in the first place, right?

    Um,
Sorry no Amnesty. Get in line and go thru the Process already in place if you want to become a Citizen.

Logic tells me that if these illegals younger than 30 were able to serve in the US military or US Coast Guard that means they were able to Vote. And if I'm wrong than these move of the Obama administration will allow those illegals 30 and under to vote in this election. Very tricky Obama, I didn't see that one coming. Now this means that Florida was right that illegals had made it on the voting list.

Does any President have the authority from Congress to grant immunity to illegal aliens regardless of age? Giving immunity to these alleged children for taking JOBS away from new high school grads that are American Citizens has to be discrimination of the worst kind.

Are these children over age 18 going to register to vote in Florida too?

I mean come on now Democrats. Don't any of you have children looking for work too. Obama just makes it impossible for them to find work.

They say about 3 Million new high school grads are coming on to the Seeking Jobs but non-working Citizens of America. Where are these jobs?

Children out of H.S. that never worked in their state can't get unemployment insurance let alone a regular UI check with no history of ever working.

The President may think he is gaining politically, but come on now Democrats with Kids.

Are you really sure this is a policy he supports?

Did Congress authorize this push-aside of the current Immigratioin Law? I THINK NOT.

Well, it is official. Obama has declared himself dictator. We used to be a nation of laws. If he wants to change the immigration laws in this country he needs to do it through Congress. Somebody needs to sue the feds over this to get it stopped and haul the dictator into court to defend this stuff.

It should be painfully clear to EVERYBODY that this country cannot afford 4 more years of this dictator. Obama must go and go FAST.

Well first of all I would like to say that I am a Mexican American. Now these kids are here because they were brought here by their parents for a better life. They go to school and work just as hard as anybody else to study and get into college. I understand that if they are working hard to better themselves and stay out of trouble why not let them stay. I agree with having them deported if they have committed a violent crime. We don't any more people like that here in America, we already have enough of them. And who ever said they don't pay taxes is obviously ill informed. They get taxes taken out of their checks like everyone else and at the end they don't get income tax. And last time I checked half of America was founded by immigrants.

    Policy or Pandering??

By deporting more immigrants (more than 1 million) than any previous president, Obama has earned the title – and will go down in history as – our nation's premier "Deportation President" (a title previously bestowed upon President Eisenhower, who presided over the infamous 1950s "Operation Wetback" that resulted in the forcible repatriation of 800,000 U.S. and foreign-born Latinos). Obama's deportation policy has had devastating consequences that have torn immigrant families apartand terrorized Latino communitiesacross the country. He thus gave Republicans a golden opportunity to attract enough Latino voters to help them win back the White House.

They cannot stay because through no fault of their own they are, or have been, taking opportunity and public resources away from taxpaying citizens. I see no reason to reward the parents. Yes, the children are victims caught in the middle, but it was the parents who created the dilemma in the first place. It should be upon the parents to rectify it, not US taxpayers. It is not our problem. We didn't create, and we should "solve" it by allowing the non-law abiding parents to meet their goals.

Deport EVERYONE who has no Native American blood! That'll solve all the ecological problems here! Why do descendants of immigrants complain so bitterly about more hard-working immigrants coming here? Immigrants created and nurtured this great country, it's an insult to their memories how lazy and entitled their children have become!

It is you who is misinformed. How can they pay federal income taxes if they do not have a SSI number? You cannot be here illegally and obtain one from the government. On that note, if they are paying income taxes as you say they are, then they are using an illegal SSI number at their place of employment. That's called identity theft. Furthermore, many illegals use a stolen SSI number and then declare a large number of dependents just to get little or no taxes deducted from their paychecks. It is you who is misinformed.

I think by the end of this election year there will be a new term, Obama Scheme.
It will be used to describe election year political fraud the way Ponzi Scheme is used to describe a pyramid structure investment fraud, first perfected by Charles Ponzi in 1920.

  24. November 2012 -- IMPEACH OBAMA, the lawless leftist dictator that violates his oath of office EVERY DAY

If Eric Holder allows this law breaking to go on, he needs to be handcuffed and charged for refusing to perform his duties. If Obama continues, he needs to be impeached and jailed for violating the laws of this nation. These people do NOT have unilateral dictatorial powers to be doing this. Our elected representatives make the laws in this nation, NOT them.

All the while Obama and his lackey Eric Holder are suing states because they are the only ones enforcing the laws of this nation. This lawlessness MUST END. Obama needs to resign or be impeached or this country is heading towards a Constitutional crisis of epic proportions.
