Doppelganger alert: John Kerry to play Romney in debate prep

(CNN) - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry has been tapped to play Mitt Romney in debate preparations for President Barack Obama, an Obama campaign official confirmed Monday.

Kerry will mimic the presumptive GOP nominee in debate practice, anticipating Romney's answers and speaking style so the president can know what to expect in their face-to-face showdowns this fall.

Obama's campaign has made Romney's record as a one-term Massachusetts governor one of their prime lines of attack–a record Kerry knows well as a five-term senator from the state.

First reported by The Boston Globe, Obama's senior strategist David Axelrod said Kerry was the best pick for the job.

"He's an expert debater who has a fundamental mastery of a wide range of issues, including Mitt Romney's Massachusetts. He's the obvious choice," Axelrod said in a statement to the Globe.

The senator himself had plenty of practice on the presidential debate stage when he took on President George W. Bush three times in 2004 as the Democratic nominee.

Obama is scheduled to battle his Republican contender in three presidential debates in October. The events are set to occur in Denver, Colorado; and Hempstead, New York; and Boca Raton, Florida. Also in October, the vice presidential candidates will debate in Danville, Kentucky.

Well, if nothing else.. both are utter tools. I guess Democrats haven't figured out yet that Kerry is absolute voting booth poison.

I've said for some time now that Romney is the Repubs Kerry, a flip flopping elitist with little to none ability to communicate like a human person

Isn't Kerry the wealthies US Senator, born of Rosemary Forbes of the Forbes money family? Schooled in Switzerland? Talk about completely out of touch with the common people. So wealthy our heads would spin. And never worked for his wealth.

Who better to pretend to be a multimillionaire flip-flopper than a multimillionaire flip-flopper?

kerry has no experience in private enterprise. there is no way he can mimic romney to sound half way real. this is in some way a reflection on obama as well for not being able to pick the right guy for the right job.

Perfect choice! Kerry was portrayed as out of touch with real people (whoever real people are) during the 2004 election, and he certainly knows wealth. The only question is if he can convincingly play such a consummate opportunist as Romney.

This is no big deal. Afterwards, he'll flip-flop and play Obama for Romney's debate prep.

Both Romney and Kerry are Massachusetts liberals so that is a good pick.

Who wants Romney he is just worried about his family. MARK my words, if he wins his ‘5’ golden boy sons will get better jobs, make more money, trips around the world, etc…… I guess we need to make the super wealthy wealthier.
Also Romney is a draft-dodger; he used his religion to get away with serving. I guess we all should become Mormon to avoid serving in the military! What will happen to the United States of America if we all become Mormon?
I just lost a friend to stage-4 pancreatic cancer, if there is a God above, I wish on him that the same happens to Romney and his ‘golden sons’ I hope they all rot and suffer with the most horrific pain!
If Romney thinks he is so great for the USA, he needs to man-up. He should put his ‘5’ golden boy sons life’s on the line. Example: If Romney breaks his promises to the people of the USA, his family should go before a firing squad. This is crazy, but it is one way to keep him to his promises. If he makes his rich friends and family wealthier buy pulling strings, execute his golden boys! He is a Cholera!!!

Kerry is good at playing and pretending. He's been pretending to be a senator for a long time now.

All those I see online who support Romney say that he's not Obama, and didn't kill Osama bin Laden, and didn't work for the last several years, and didn't study law (like a President needs to understand law or international law), and that he is clearly the right choice because of everything he is not. Romney's not anyone. He's a charismatic leader without an agenda at all. Romney, in a safe vacuum from total inaction, will launch attacks and negative ad campaigns and avoid any tough questions. Mitt is a void, and a cheerleader for anyone who foots the bill. There is no way I will vote for someone that is a harsh critic that offers no alternatives.

@bcinwi: "oh john kerry....only man with a purple heart with no scars to prove it.....worthless"

Yet another unthinking Repub sheep, swallowing all the GOP BS hook, line and sinker: typical.

Here are the FACTS about the Purple Heart (called the Badge of Military Merit when it was first awarded, during the Revolutionary War-):

According to Navy regulations, a worthy wound is merely "an injury to any part of the body from an outside force or agent, sustained while in action. A PHYSICAL LESION IS NOT REQUIRED, provided the concussion or other form of injury received was a result of the action in which engaged."

In other words, the severity of the injury isn't really at issue. A Purple Heart is awarded to any member of the armed forces (including the Coast Guard) who is killed or wounded in action.

The other services' regulations include similar language; further stipulations include that "the wound for which the award is made must have required treatment by a medical officer and records of medical treatment for wounds or injuries received in action must have been made a matter of official record."

Do a little thinking for yourself, bcinwi, for a change. It may be painful to accept the truth about your party which has been lying to you in their effort to get you to vote against your own self-interest, but at least you can have some self-respect.
