MSNBC serves up second round of 'sandwiches' after controversy

(CNN) - MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell aired a longer cut from a Mitt Romney stump speech on her Tuesday program after facing criticism from conservatives that the clip, which aired on her Monday morning program, took his remarks out of context.

The first cut suggested Romney's remarks focused somewhat vacuously on sandwiches. But what was cut from the clip which aired was Romney's actual explanation for telling the story of ordering sandwiches at a Quakertown, Pennsylvania WaWa.

"People in the private sector have learned to compete," he said after describing the touchscreen ordering system at the lunch counter. "It's time to bring some competition into the federal government and to get it smaller and to have it respond to the customers which are you."

Mitchell said on Tuesday that both the Romney campaign and Republican National Committee reached out to her show after the original segment aired. She then aired a longer version of the video, and said the program "didn't get a chance to play that" on Monday.

In the shorter version which aired Monday, Romney said, "I was at WaWas, I went in to order a sandwich. You press the little touchtone keypad. Right? You just touch that, and you know the sandwich comes.

"Touch this, touch this, touch this," he continued, gesturing. "Go pay the cashier, there's your sandwich. It's amazing."

The original clip ends and Mitchell repeats, "It's amazing," sharing a laugh with her guest, Washington Post reporter Chris Cillizza.

Mitchell was born in New York City and married lots of money. She is the last person I would describe as being in touch with the real world. She is constantly getting in trouble for coloring the news with her crayons. She should retire before she bankrupts MSNBC.

Obviously Norma Jean, obviously. You say it just like the talking heads that you seem to want to defend. Aren't you offended when someone lies to you? Why not?

There is a single word for Andrea Mitchell as a reporter and I would willingly use it but it would not get by the CNN censors.

    @theTruth
MSNBC and other liberal net works are starting to lie even more that usual. It is entertaining but very bad for me and many others to take them serious.

Maybe try the BBC or the PBS News Hour, you might learn something !

As for Romney , he is just Weird ! He's like Mister Rogers' Neighborhood with car elevators and 77 thousand dollar tax exemptions for his horse . He owns so many homes in so many places , how can he understand what a neighbor is .

Foxnews is right leaning but they do show both sides. I grew up thinking people like Sam Donaldson were the best and most trustworthy news people. Now it is known by all that they are not trustworthy at all. You will get their opinion and that's it.

If anything, the longer clip only reinforced Romney's detachment from normal America. Thanks GOP for pointing out there was more to air!

  10. Vote the Tea Party OUT in 2012

the "3 on the couch" in the morning on Fox and Friends have taken so much stuff out of context and misquoted the president so often hey could run a whole show of it. Call a tribute to the late Andrew Briebart who would do the same thing. More fake outrage from the right.

Right. Because Faux News has never abbreviated a clip of Obama for their show in order for them to take it out of context... Pot, meet kettle.

Andrea Mitchel and NBC should be publicly shamed for this type of deception. This is an example of how "lame-stream" media is nothing more than a propoganda machine against the freedoms of American citizens. Is this what myself and countless other Marines and service members fight for?? Andrea Mitchel should be fired as well as the 'editor' that signed off on this report. Keep firing the liars until either the Propaganda media is replaced or dies off.

The GOTParty will sell every part of America in their quest to bury the government. Then, there will be nothing standing between you and the businesses and powerful individuals they represent.

  15. everyone wake up

it's bad enough when ANY news org doctors vids for political reasons... but you dbags that try and justify it are exactly what's wrong with the country. read my lips... all politicians lie... and there's HUGE bias in the media. don't listen to what people say.... watch what people do... then vote for the one that's the least corrupt. good luck. rooting for left or right is EXACTLY what a politician wants. divide and conquer. wake tfu. it's us vs them (politician vs people)... not left vs right.

This should be on CNNs front page! The only way to get to the truth anymore is to hear the whole banana from the horse's mouth. They should fire ole Mitchell if they had any integrity. Obama and his administration have proven to be corrupt. Fast and furious, secret service, his friends, spending, rev wright. I could go on and on. take heed, start reporting the facts and stop giving us everyone's opinion. Ask yourself, why should I listen to a celebrity, what expertise can they bring to the table?

We should not be letting anyone take words out of context and use them to attack the original speaker. Why are we allowing this to happen? We are teaching our children that it is okay to interrupt and heckle people, to take statements and ideas our of context to prove a point, to speak falsehoods and never be called on the carpet for doing so. Any statements made can be quoted world-wide very quickly. If the statements are not quoted correctly the first time round it is very difficult to get the true statements out to the public. We are not patient enough to wait to get the whole story before pouncing.

Great post. The only thing I would say is that MSNBC, CNN etc. portray themselves as unbiased journalists. ABC, CBS and especially NBC are so entrenched in their ideology that they can't recognize the liberal slant on the regular news. At least on Fox you can get both sides of the stories.

Oh please, anything he says is taken out of context because he will flip on it either in the same speech, same hour, same day or same month!
He was flustered because he couldn't go see his handful of lemmings because a bully likes to push and show and cut hair. He can't stand being shown up and those protesters did the job.
