Executive privilege: A rocky legal and political road in U.S. history

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's assertion of executive privilege ahead of a hearing before a House committee, which subsequently recommended his attorney general be cited for contempt of Congress, sets up a fight that has had mixed results in the past.

At stake are Justice Department documents relating to the flawed Fast and Furious gunrunning sting that House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-California, wants in his hands, and that Attorney General Eric Holder says are confidential.

Most everything Mr. Obama says anymore is surreal and cringe worthy. He sounds like a little grade school kid who thinks by telling the same lies over and over will exonerate him or, if that doesn't work, he blames everyone else. Since the leftist media did such an effective hatchet job on George W. Bush for 8 years, he is the target of choice. Unfortunately, we have legions of dumbed down useful idiots who lap up every word from the left and haven't had an original thought in decades. The real tragedy is not Obama or his policies, but the strange fact that someone of his ilk and incompetence could actually be elected President in the first place. It is a sad commentary on the state of the nation. The health and future survival of America are in dire straights. Unfortunately, I am not sure we have the means, personnel and resolve to save her through political channels.

It has become painfully obvious that the Chicago Mob has moved into the Whitehouse. Laws meaning NOTHING to them. They got people KILLED and now they are covering up BIG TIME. Several people high up in the Obama administration will likely do hard jail time over this stuff.

Holder should be held in Contempt of Congress. Why should he be any different than Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers who under Bush were also cited in Contempt of Congress. And I do agree that the real tragedy is the strange fact that someone of incompetence, lack of experience and academics was elected President but than if we look back at 2008 we have to give much credit of his election to the ficticious, inventing of himself while all along he was a kid in a rich school having a very good, rich life who even used to live in Manhattan as a young man.

@Niuhc and others who tend to forget what others presidents have done recently including your king reagan, #41, clinton and #43 who used his executive power in September of 2007 to keep 3,500 Liberians (I believe that is the African country) from being deported.
I guess your boy toy was the one who used the hatchet on himself for the longest and worst presidential years ever in our history. Who is dumb down now?

I'm sure the right will get collective amnesia and claim Obama is the ONLY president that has called for executive priviledge. As usual it's only wrong in their eyes if the current president does it.

  8. Vote the Tea Party in 2012

I really get a kick out it when the far right freaks out over things Obama does that other presidents including Republican ones have done in the past.

    Executive order..."WHAT?? HOW DARE HIM??"
Recess Appointments "Well he got a LOT of NERVE!!"
Vacations...."He's ALWAYS on vacation NEVER works for the American people!!"
Exexcutive priviledge...."Just who does he think he is???"

and the list of hypocripsy goes on and on. KEep it up Mr President...give the GOP a good run for their money since they won't work with you on anything.
