New poll: Obama has double digit advantage

Washington (CNN) - A new national survey indicates President Barack Obama has opened up a double digit lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney in the race for the White House, an advantage for Obama that no other major poll released this month has found.

According to a Bloomberg National Poll released Wednesday, 53% of people likely to vote in the November presidential election say they support the president, with 40% saying they back Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presumptive GOP nominee.

The survey indicates Obama has a 13-point lead over Romney even though those questioned gave him low marks on his handling of the economy and the deficit. Six in ten said the nation is headed down the wrong track.

According to the poll, by a 55%-36% margin, likely voters view Romney as more out of touch with average Americans than Obama. And only 39% have a favorable view of Romney, with 48% saying they see him in a negative light. Fifty-five percent say the have a favorable opinion of the president, with 36% saying they view him in an unfavorable way.

The Bloomberg poll was conducted June 15-18, with 1,002 adults nationwide, including 734 likely voters, questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error for questions only of likely voters is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

The Bloomberg horse race numbers are very different than most of the other national polls released over the past month, which indicated the race was tied or showed Obama with a slight advantage.

A new CNN Poll of Polls, which averages the three latest national horserace surveys, puts Obama at 48% and Romney at 43%. The three surveys included in the CNN Poll of Polls are Bloomberg (June 15-18), Gallup Daily Tracking Poll (June 12-18) and Reuters/Ipsos (June 7-11). The CNN Poll of Polls does not have a sampling error.

It is all about voter turnout. Romney has a strong hold on only about 25% of the voters. That number does not make me comfortable at all. His 25% will vote. You can tae that to the bank. No matter what anyone thinks of their politics the hard right has at least one admirable quality; they vote. So.... if around 50% of the voters vote it will be too close to call. If it is 55%-60% Obama wins. If, however, as was the case in Maine in 2010, only 40% vote Obama, and all of the progress we have made will be gone. If you want to see what a Tea Party governor looks like google "Paul LePage" It ain't pretty so get off you behinds and vote America.

"that no other major poll released this month has found." Thats right and this the poll that CNN wants you to believe. How in the world could there be a double digit lead? No way. Maybe the poll targeted left wing extremists.

most people knew obama was going to pull away once the republicans woke up.
almost every talking point of the republican party is misinformation from radio shows i listen to, to fox news programs. Obama won't win this election, the republicans will lose it.

Mitt Romney? the guy who lost to the guy who lost to obama last time? really? this is who you went with?
It's like john kerry vs bush, only obama isn't anywhere near as bad as bush was.

don't blame anyone but the republican party

I THINK THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE NOT AS STUPID AS FOXNEWS, CNN AND MSNBC. We see Mitt for who he is, a rich guy with no qualms about saying anything to get into Licolns Bed! He is morally, and ethically corrupt! I say this because, he is willing to repeat the same ignorant, disasterous and dangerous economic and diplomatic policies that got this country into this grve economic situation! He will leave this country the way George Bush did! George left us with , 11 trillions in national debt, 1.3 trillion in yearly deficit, 2 Wars, a Wall street, Banking, Auto, Mortgage, and Healthcare crisises! Also, over 2.8 trillion in tax cuts for the rich, and a economy on the brink extinction! Now, Mitt wants to implement the same economic plan as George Bush again! Mitt How are you going to balance the budget in 10 yearss according to your economic plan and give 5 trillion dollars to corporations in tax cuts? I know how, on the backs of the 99%! Those who need Police protection, firemen, Teachers, Pell grants, unemployment, Social Security, Medicare, Food Stamps, College loans and grants! Mitt any thought on increasing taxes the rich and cutting defense spending, that would secure America's future. I DO NOT THINK ALL AMERICANS ARE THAT STUPID AND RACIST TO VOTE PRESIDENT OBAMA OUT OF OFFICE! THE ONLY VALID (UNETHICAL AND CRAZY) REASON IS BECAUSE HE IS BLACK! NO PROOF HE IS A MUSLIM, SOCIALIST, KENYAN, ANTI AMERICAN, ANTI NATIONAL SECURITY, ANTI ISRAEL AND THE LIST GOES ON!

It must be bad for the republicans when a poll of Fox viewers has the race tied. Check RCP for source.

Jim said: "Should rename it the "Liberal Wishful Thinking Pole"." That's pretty dirty... If you meant "poll" that's ok, but otherwise that's content not appropriate for this web site

Hogarth...funny how in those polls mentioned by Tsimbi the leads are by a couple of digits either in Romneys favor or even for Romney and Obama but the Gallop poll has Obama leading by double digits???? I sure wonder who they polled for Obamas magical double digit lead, democratic leaning counties I can only imagine. Obama is done...bad news is coming everyday as far as the economy, gas prices, unemployment, housing, etc. yet some people somehow feel Obama is doing a good job and will get re-elected. I am guessing these people are the same ones that answered the Gallop poll.

Obviously, Bloomberg pollsters were interviewing registered Democrats. The Rasmussen poll, which is consistently accurate, has Romney ahead by two points, i.e., within the margin of error. Bloomberg needs to redesign its polling procedures.

These polls are worthless. I for one hope it's true but honestly who are they polling? Furthermore, it won't do anything to encourage democratic campaigning and it certainly won't strike fear into the hearts of conservatives who are convinced that everything reported in the news is a dastardly liberal conspiracy designed to take all of our money away in taxes and give it to lazy mexican drug addicts.

Once again CNN promotes the polls favoring the President and usually refers to past favorable polls if one comes out favoring Romney.

Overt attempt of the media trying to run the election!! The media needs to stop asking questions in a way that gets a certian answer. All polls are FLAWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only poll that counts is the one taken on election day!

This is great news. Perhaps we as American cicitzens are finally realizing that a vote for Romney is a vote to give our country away to the highest bidder. Give Obama a chance to fix what he inherited, rather than return power to the party that caused the economy to tank.

The only polls that are relevant are those in the battleground states. Of those, Florida and Ohio are most important.

Ah yes, the liberal media somehow always skews the news in their favor.

The Rasmussen reports (which we trust far more than the media), shows Romney leading. Let us hope!

Of course Obama leads by a huge margin....and it will only bigger after the debates! Romney severe lack of intelligence and understanding of how basic government runs will be brought to the forefront.
