Obama pushes two new ads against Romney

(CNN) –President Barack Obama's re-election campaign blasted Republican rival Mitt Romney in two new TV spots released Wednesday.

The ads targeted Romney's record as former Massachusetts governor, mostly hitting him for tax increases and accusing him of outsourcing jobs while he headed the Bay State.

"Running for governor, Mitt Romney campaigned as a job creator, but as a corporate raider, he shift jobs to China and Mexico," says a narrator in one of the ads. "As governor he did the same thing, outsourcing state jobs to India. Now he's making the exact same pitch."

The Obama campaign raised the same charge in a previous ad, using claims that the fact-checking organization PolitiFact has rated "half-true."

While it's accurate that Romney vetoed a bill as governor that would have banned existing state contracts with companies that outsourced, the ad fails to point out that implementing the ban would have cost taxpayers money without guaranteeing those jobs would return to Massachusetts.

Also notable, at the time Romney vetoed the measure, 43 states had some form of contract with companies that outsourced, according to a Government Accountability Office report.

The other Obama commercial, named "Mosaic," takes aim at the presumptive GOP presidential nominee for raising taxes and fees as governor, despite pledging to cut taxes during his gubernatorial campaign.

"As governor, Mitt Romney did cut taxes on millionaires like himself, but he raised taxes and fees on everybody else," says the narrator in the ad. "Romney economics didn't work then. It won't work now."

According to PolitiFact, Romney faced a $3 billion deficit coming into office in 2003, and overtime he had to raise revenues in order to make a dent in the budget gap. However, the taxes and fees were not squarely aimed at middle income workers, as the Obama ad suggests.

Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul characterized the ads as "misleading" and the "latest efforts by the Obama campaign to distract attention from the President's failed policies that have led to high unemployment and falling incomes."

"Mitt Romney was a successful businessman and governor with a decades-long record of helping to create American jobs, in contrast to President Obama's hostility to free enterprise that has left millions of Americans out of work. It's still the economy and the American people aren't stupid," Saul said in a statement Wednesday.

The commercials will run in the crucial battleground states of New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Colorado and Nevada, according to a campaign official. CNN reported last week that the Obama campaign had purchased an additional $12.8 million for broadcast and cable ad time running from last Thursday to July 2 in nine battleground states.

The Romney campaign has yet to respond to the new spots, but last week criticized the previous round of Obama campaign commercials that attacked Romney's record as Massachusetts governor.

"President Obama will do anything to distract from his abysmal economic record and – despite that record – the fact that he thinks the private sector is 'doing fine,'" Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in a statement. "Mitt Romney knows our country can do better and, under his leadership, it will do better."

Kudos to the "sound off" which attributed the growth of overseas jobs to Romney!

Romney took a state with deficits and left it with a surplus. He took a state ranked last in employment and brought it up about 20 notches. In contrast, Obama has increased debts and unemployment.

Nothing wrong with making profits for oneself, or even others. Just to pretend that you create American jobs.

Romney took over a state facing a revenue crisis because the state was losing jobs. The state went from 50th to 36th, and averaged 47th over that time frame. Most of the improvement is a result of tens of thousands moving out of MA. because it was a desert when it came to jobs.

Pres. Obama has lowered the annual deficit from the final two years of the Buish administation. FY2008 and FY2009 saw annual deficits of $1 trillion and $1.5 trillion, respectively. Annual spending increases has been at or below inflation, 1.2%, which is a far cry from the annual 8-9% increases we saw under Bush. And Bush, still holds the record for the highest annual deficit.

The Great Recession was at full steam when he was sworn in. Unemployment peaked 10.2% a few months later, and it is now down to 8.2%. That's an improvement.

I do not know what "Dave" is smoking, but Mitt left Massachusetts is a dismal state! Dave must be getting is facts from sly foxnews! Mitt left that state 47th in job creation, with a healthcare law he now disavows, disenfranchised public workers, and tax cuts for corporations he called people! What a record, no wonder they got rid of him! He will leave this country the way George Bush did! George left us with , 11 trillions in national debt, 1.3 trillion in yearly deficit, 2 Wars, a Wall street, Banking, Auto, Mortgage, and Healthcare crisises! Also, over 2.8 trillion in tax cuts for the rich, and a economy on the brink extinction! Now, Mitt wants to implement the same economic plan as George Bush again! I DO NOT THINK ALL AMERICANS ARE THAT STUPID AND RACIST TO VOTE PRESIDENT OBAMA OUT OF OFFICE! THE ONLY VALID (UNETHICAL AND CRAZY) REASON IS BECAUSE HE IS BLACK! NO PROOF HE IS A MUSLIM, SOCIALIST, KENYAN, ANTI AMERICAN, ANTI NATIONAL SECURITY, ANTI ISRAEL AND THE LIST GOES ON!

@Dave, I would beg to argue with your statement about Obama increasing unemployment. While the nations debt has increased under Obama, unemployment has not increased. He has created jobs. Unemployment may still be high but he is moving us in the right direction toward a steady economic recovery. Some states have unemployment rates falling to almost 7%. While we did see unemployment around 10% at the beginning of his presidency it is currently around 8% how can this be true and your statement be true? They both can't and since real unemployment rates are based on facts they must be true and you must be incorrect.

Romney added $2.5 billiion to MA's debt in his 4 years in office. He raised taxes. Pretty simple to see he's blowing steam.

You lie. Population during Romney's tenure was relatively stable. Mass. is NEVER a "desert" with regards to jobs. LOTS of high tech there. You lie again.

Pres. Obama has lowered the annual deficit from the final two years of the Buish administation. FY2008 and FY2009 saw annual deficits of $1 trillion and $1.5 trillion, respectively. More lies. Obama has taken what were one time emergency expenditures (TARP) and made them permanent fixed expenditures of the federal government going forward. Total deceit on your part, and Obama's

The Great Recession was at full steam when he was sworn in. Unemployment peaked 10.2% a few months later, and it is now down to 8.2%. That's an improvement.
    =============================================================================================
The drop in unemployment is due ENTIRELY to the drop in the workforce and people dropping out of it. So even more lies on your part.

Go get him President Obama. Since they want to sling mud and lies, put the truth out their about this Robot called Romney. I wish you could call him a wimp, but that would not be presidential, but I can all day long. Romney wants to be president so bad he can taste it, even though he and his followers know that he is not ready. I guess he and his family wants everyone to bow down to them even more. They are nothing but spoiled rich folks who have not a clue about day to day living. That Wawa and doughnut incident was enough for me. This man is so used to being waited on, he would never survive in the real world.
