Obama asserts executive privilege on Fast and Furious documents

Washington (CNN) - An extraordinary House committee hearing began considering a contempt measure against Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday even though President Barack Obama asserted executive privilege over documents sought by the panel investigating the botched Fast and Furious gun-running sting.

Committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa, R-California, said the White House assertion of executive privilege "falls short" of any reason to delay the hearing.

The information being requested by the committee is operational information. The release of the intelligence can jeapordize current operations. You have to consider the safety of the informants and agents involved. Apparently Mr. Issa is not and is persistant on having AG Holder break the law. If Issa wants to investigate something, have him investigate the war crimes committed under the Bush Administration starting from Abu Ghraib, the leaking of a CIA operative and prisoner abuse and Gitmo. Investigate that!

"@Danielle – Good. Now maybe congress can do some REAL work. Like, the work we sent them there to do!!"

Really Danielle, this isn't important? Tell that to family of the border patrol agent killed with one of the lost guns. Tell that to the families of hundreds of others murdered in Mexico at scenes where F&F weapons were found. Tell that to the families of thousands of others who will be the victims of crimes where F&F weapons will be used.

Mr. Holder has admitted that we haven't seen the end of crimes where these weapons will be used, and the facts need to come out and those responsible need to be held accountable. Unfortunately, we won't know who needs to be held accountable until the Justice Department and White House administration end this cover-up.

"@Malory Archer – Additionally, the families of the thousands of servicemembers killed/maimed in two wars based on lies would like answers as well."

What's your point...what does one have to do with the other. I agree with your statement, but what does that have to do with F&F and the risk to life the Justice Department caused with their poor decision making and follow through?

Are you trying to use the two wrongs make a right argument? I would have assumed that as a child you learned that is not the case.

Mr. Archer– F&F was not a carry over from Bush. That is just a way to deflect. F&F is an entirely different operation and you know it I'm sure. Obama expanded the two wars you are referring to so I guess we need answers from him on that also. The comment "good for Obama" is not defending Holder? looks to me like it is. You also say the two wars were based on lies; sir every nation and even Clinton thought there were weapons that could be used against us. Notice I said both republcans and democrats should be punished for this if both of them are responsible and yet you try to turn it around like I'm going after Holder alone. I want answers from Holder who is the one refusing to give the answers that are needed in this and I would be saying the same if Holder was a republican.

I cannot believe that Issa has read the 140,000 pages already turned over. This is more republican political crap.

This is all a bunch of crap. No one is going to get in trouble or anything. They are just wasting time. They all know nothing will come from it. They could be spending this time figuring out something more useful, instead of trying to play a shell game.

Oh, oh. Here we go again! Hold-her and Mr. Obama flaunting the laws of the US, AGAIN!!! The president should be impeached and Hold-her held in contempt.

They have already caused enough damage and divisiveness to our country. The most and unusual surprise? is that my fellow Democrats continue to support this two traitorous and divisive idiots.

Just like the labor unions, these are some of the reasons so many of us Democrats are so disenchanted with the Democratic party. Some things are indefensible. The decisions being made by Mr. Obama and Hold-her certainly fit in that category. When are my fellow Democrats going to have enough "bolas" to say Mr. Obama, Mr. Hold-her, Mr. Cummings, ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!!
