Issa: Fast and Furious executive privilege 'simply wrong'

Washington (CNN) - A letter sent to President Barack Obama will outline why his invocation of executive privilege over documents sought by lawmakers investigating the botched Fast and Furious gun-running sting is either "overbroad, or simply wrong," House Oversight Committee chairman Darrell Issa said Sunday.

The letter will be sent later Sunday or Monday, Issa, R-California, told ABC's "This Week." The oversight committee voted Wednesday to refer a potential contempt citation against Attorney General Eric Holder to the full House, which is set to vote this week.

A border patrol agent is shot and killed by drug cartels using guns this administration sold them and did not put tracking chips in the guns. The border patrol agent opened fire with bean bags as ordered by the DOJ and the drug cartel trash returned fire with live ammo. President Bush sent guns over the border with tracking chips and the full knowledge of the Mexican Government but this operation was shut down over a year before commencement of obummers "rule".

This guy is a showboat. He is typical of the GOP in Washington ... tear down anything Obama tries to do simply because Obama is trying to do it. He has been charged with all kinds of things in this life including stealing a car and illegally carrying a concealed weapon. Wacthdog groups alleged that he has repeatedly used his public position for personal gain.

The Bush Administration is responsible for this tragedy. The Obama Administration put an end to the program after they found out about it. As usual, the right-wing refuses to take blame. That's why America despises Bush and the GOP.

ISSA, You didn't exploit? you didn't play politic? you think everyone is as dumb as you think? YOU ARE DEAD WRONG. You want to know how this start and work? Why didn't you ask Bush when he was in power. You waited his gone, didn't you?

One more task for you, go dig why Bush/Cheney decide to invade Iraq. It costs Trillion dollar and 4000 American lives. If you are so intellectually innocent, go dig gold there.

If it was good enough to hold Bush's team in Contempt of Congress than it is good enough for the Obama team. Equality.

Obama makes his decision, he is in control, he sits in the White House therefore he harms himself.

How about you dig into Mr. Issa CNN look at the glass house he is tossing boulders from. How biased this whole investigation is and one sided. It's a witch hunt by definition because he won't look into both sides or interview past AG who are not appointed by dems. He put himself in the lime light look into his past and see if he was this aggressive with Bush

snow, I think there was a ballistic test done that showed that border patrol agent was not killed by the F&F guns. But I still think Issa should let the ATF agents that were there testify and Obama should turn over docs related to the investigation.

Issa should ask Karl Rove how HE feels about executive privilege. I'm sure in private Rove was grinning like a Chesire cat when he got it. Once again the GOP hopes Americans have short term memories.

  14. Truth Hurts

It's sad when the only reason the Republicans are even concerned is because an ATF agent was shot and killed. It's completely politically motivated. Where was there outrage when our gun industry has been rapidly selling weapons in the border area that are responsible for up to 60% of the deaths in Mexico and the border area of with full knowledge of Congress? They've been catering to the NRA so long, Wayne LaPierre should claim them on taxes as dependents. They've prevented the Department of Justice from enacting and enforcing gun trafficking and tracing laws that would be meaningful and save lives by watering them down so much it makes them impotent. We have more gun shops in the 10 mile border area of Texas than we have gas stations. In my experience, I call that a clue. Do your own research and quit taking political talking points for truth. The truth takes 2nd priority to the $ and re-election for most of these people. When was the last time you've seen an elected politician testify under oath and make the same partisan allegations we see on television. They are not leaders and they lost respectability when they traded in their integrity for money.

And Cheney having a private conference with oil executives to set energy policy with Bush invoking executive privelege was just wrong too. But Issa didn't have a problem with that one.

I say go for it Issa – be a man. You've been really long on words and short on action. But you won't. This is just all posturing in an election year. Something you and the boys can have a laugh over at the country club. What a sorry state of affairs!! The country needs jobs and to help out it's middle class. What are the Republicans talking about? Restricting women's health and this issue. Where is the leadership from the right? Where are the specific plans to help Americans?

Exec privilege was invoked to hide the truth. The agent was a strong american male who was murdered by a gun we distributed. I here it could be bushes fault so why wouldnt both sides agree to get holder to release all papers.

No this whole sham investigation by Issa is WRONG. It is a political witch hunt on a non-story. It was a Bush operation started in 2006 and carried over into the Obama administration. When Holder found out about it, he ended it immediately. He fired all the ATF agents and leaders involved with it after a full investigation. End of story. Issa should be held in contempt for wasting Congressional time on lies and made-up scandals when Republicans should be passing the Jobs Act, the Dream Act, the Infrastructure bill, and actual PEOPLE programs to restore the mess Republicans created. Enough Republican hate and lies. Throw them all out so our real leader with values, honor and character can finish the recovery he started before Republican obstructionism of all legislation began. Republicans are destroyers and plan to destroy our whole social system from education to Medicare to SS to food for poor children and hand it all to a corporate dictatorship of America. I want my democracy back and the extremist Republicans and their denial of our rights as women, workers, and voters rescinded. I stand with the President.
