Perry: Fast and Furious is 'Nixonian'

(CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Sunday labeled President Barack Obama's claim of executive privilege over Operation Fast and Furious as "Nixonian," suggesting the scandal is worse than Watergate.

"You have a president who is using his executive privilege to keep that information from Congress. If that's not Nixonian, then I don't know what is," Perry said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

The Republican governor and former presidential candidate portrayed the botched gun-running operation as more serious than the 1970s Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of former President Richard Nixon.

"We've had over 300 Mexican nationals killed directly attributable to this Fast and Furious operation, where they brought those guns into Mexico. A former Marine and a Border Patrol agent by the name of Brian Terry lost his life," Perry said. "With Watergate you had a second-rate burglary."

Obama asserted executive privilege last week over Justice Department documents surrounding the Fast and Furious probe by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The House is expected to vote next week to cite Attorney General Eric Holder for contempt of Congress.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives launched the operation out of Arizona to track weapon purchases by Mexican drug cartels. However, it lost track of more than 1,000 firearms that the agency had allowed straw buyers to carry across the border, and two of the lost weapons turned up at the scene of the 2010 killing of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

Since Executive Privilege can't be invoked unless the President is directly involved all you Obama apologists can stop the whitewash! This agent was murdered on Obama's watch – nothing to do with Bush.

What a bunch of deadbeats you are!

The fact that Perry has any credibility at all within the Republican party after the humiliating embarrassment of his debate performance is a testament to the I.Q. of the GOP.

WOW! Rick Perry, drunk again! Sad how Issa and the GOP are using the death of this hero for their own political purpose. How anyone would vote republican is beyond me. I truly feel sorry for Terry's parents who are being used by the GOP. Since when does the republicans care about what happens to Mexicans. Everyone knows the GOP doesn't like Latinos.

Wow, the RNC really thinks your dumb america if you fall for this. Come on some of these guys have been in office 20 to 30 years it will take a long time to clean up their mess. The sad part is they are on networks and cable channels every day passing blame, the health care plan called Obama care was written and passed by congress. The republicans want credit for the fact the Pres office is taking down terrorist left and right but they don't want to own any fault for the economy. So how is it policies can impact the next president when it comes to defense but not economy. Just use common sense and stop listening to talking heads. It's eat to get info with google no reason to be misinformed

It's hard to believe how bad they grow politicians in TX. The people of Austin need to erect a border fence to stop the people elected by the rest of TX from getting to the capitol.

Doesn't matter what the outcome is in this matter. Come November, there will only be one thing foremost on American minds: the economy. Spin it the way you want. Keep calling on past president Bush. In the end, these past four years will have been nothing more than a testament to how inept Obama has been. From day one, his top priority needed to be JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! Healthcare reforms could have been done in his second term. When he and the democrats ran the House and seante and could have passed any bill they wanted, his focus needed to be on getting Americans back to work. That is all that mattered. And still today, as many still haven't enough income, what is he doing? A total disgrace to the American voters.

In 2009, an Obama appointed deputy to Attorney General Eric Holder gave a press conference to brag about creating and expanding gun walking programs across the border into Mexico. He admitted Obama approved $10 million for this program.

Soon afterwards, Border Patrol and local ATF agents caught the smuggler who was bringing thousands of grenades into Mexico. The prosecutors who knew of the case and were working with the creators in DC, did not allow the smuggler to be arrested/charged.

Fast and Furious sent thousands of grenades into Mexico – killing hundreds. CBS did the reporting on the grenade smuggling. CSPAN and youtube have the 2009 fast and furious press conference.

One grenade attack killed dozens of grandmothers who were just having a fun afternoon out at the casino. Many of our retired also enjoy an afternoon at the casino. But these Mexican grandmothers were slaughtered with grenades Obama approved to go to Mexico – without the consent or knowledge of the Mexican government.

And you democrats argue it is racist to try and get to the bottom of this crime against humanity.

Perry you are THE Rodeo Clown. The real issue is the failed "war on drugs" but you're not going to talk about and show some real leadership and thought are you? . Better to attack the President and whip all those reactionary votes – you know the people that are as ignorant as you about prohibition and the complete waste of money and manpower for the last 80 years!!

Come now. Republican/Democrat....WHO CARES!! Who thought up the idea of the ATF supplying thousands of guns to Mexican drug cartels and for what purpose? Supposedly to track the guns they lost track of.. Makes no damned sense.
Let’s investigate this and WHOEVER is responsible should take responsibility.
Brian Perry is dead. It’s likely many other people are as well.
How many people die of drugs?
How many people die from the war on drugs?
    What a waste..

Did he really say watergate was a second rate burglary. Also most guns in mexican cartels are bought in America already. What you have to say about that?

Whoa, but I thought guns don't kill people? Just bad people do. And if they didn't use the guns, they would have made bombs, etc. Whenever libs suggest gun control laws we are told over and over that it's not really the guns that are the problem.
But THIS time, conservatives want us to believe that the slime balls who killed Brian Terry could have only done it with these guns, guns that were personally given to them by the Evil Obama. Get real. You can't say that guns are not to blame in every other instance then blame all this crime on these weapons when it suits your fancy. Typical political hypocrisy.

What a bozo claim by Perry. The scandal that clearly most closely resembles this is the Iran-Contra nonsense, but it doesn't even rise to that level.

I'm so embarrassed to be a Texan... for so many reasons...

I remember when a famous Texas political humorist once said "now maybe the next time Texans tell you not to elect one of our ex-Governors as President you'll listen...".
