Obama, Biden hit the fund-raising road

Durham, New Hampshire (CNN) - While political observers focused on the Supreme Court Monday in anticipation of news on the future of President Obama's health care reform legislation, both the president and Vice President Joe Biden prepared to hit the road to drum up some campaign cash.

The president embarks on a two-day trip where he's expected to raise more than $5 million for his reelection efforts, according to a campaign official. The trip starts with a rally at a high school in Durham, New Hampshire before taking the president to Boston in the evening for three fundraisers worth a total of more than $3 million.

The first fundraiser will be at Hamersley's Bistro where 25 people will each pay $40,000 to attend a roundtable with the president. This event will be closed to the media. Then Obama will head to Boston's Symphony Hall where 1,800 people will pay between $144 and $250 to hear the president deliver an on-camera campaign speech.

Finally, Obama heads to a private residence in Weston, Massachusetts where 100 people will pay $17,900 each for the chance to eat dinner with the president.

Across the country, Vice President Biden will also be trying to fill the Obama campaign's coffers with an event at a private residence in Chicago where tickets start at $1,500 per person.

On Tuesday, President Obama will attend four fundraisers – two in Atlanta, Georgia and two in Miami, Florida. During his first stop, Obama will attend two events at the Westin Peachtree Plaza – the first will be an on-camera speech to roughly 500 people with tickets costing between $250 and $500. The president's second event will be a closed-press roundtable discussion with approximately 20 people, each of whom will have donated $35,000 to support his reelection.

In Miami, the president will first head to a meeting with 30 donors at a private residence where admission cost $40,000 per person. He'll then attend a reception at the Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theater featuring a performance by Latin singer Marc Anthony. Tickets for the reception begin at $44 with some costing more than $100.

Money from both the president's and vice president's fundraisers will go to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee of Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties.

On paper he vilifies the wealthiest Americans, until it comes to raising cash day in and day out. Then they're just good Americans.

What do you mean hit it? They've been on it for the last TEN MONTHS and never left it! It has been mostly on the taxpayer dime! So can we have some actual reporting here that will tell us if we are still paying for it or if their campaign is finally paying for it?!!

I like both of these guys a lot, but c'mon; enough with the fundraising already!! Run the country you so badly wanted to serve! Quit flying around and get to work. See the Big Picture.

Yeah, but Obama/ Biden 2012 is quite an ambitious effort and it will be expensive. Very expensive. Imagine the challenge. First they have to try and steer the voters away from the overwhelming main issue of this election, The Economy, by creating a flurry of new issues and just hoping enough of them will stick. They have to try and build the class warfare thing, maybe try and make a successful company like Bain Capital look horrible, they will try to make it look like Republicans don't like women or Latino Americans and who knows what else they will dream up? These television ads and infomercials will cost hundreds of $millions.

And then to top it all off, they need to convince voters that the same plans that have just proven ineffective will somehow start working in 2013. So yes, this will be an interesting campaign. And expensive.

Glad to see their hitting the road to tell people what the Republicans are trying to do to our country, going back to the Bush Policies and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the middle class should pay for the Debt and the wealthy get a pass. Most all of the country know what the GOP is doing also by stopping the Jobs Act so the economy stays bad and it makes P.Obama look bad.At the end come November the Demacrates the Independens, the middle class, and the poor will not tollerate a CEO.Executive from Wallstreet like Mitt Romney run this country. The people are not as stupid as the Republicans would like people to think so.All the blaten Lies and the fear they have tryed to creat isn't going to work. The people have a choice and a voice and the people will determine who the POTUS will be.

Considering that a only handful of wealthy GOP contributors will outspend the President on this election, there is no question he needs to fund raise, and fund raise big time. Also, we will never know who most of those GOP contributors are thanks to citizens united.
Out Of Touch, purely campaign trips are paid for by the campaign itself, not the taxpayers. Republicans do the same thing when in office.
DC Johnny, see my above. It will take hundreds of thousands of ordinary contributors for the President simply to match what one GOP contributor can put into the election. Who do you think controls the election, the hundreds of thousands or that one? If you have a single finger you know the answer.
Obama 2012, they have had no choice considering how easy it is for the GOP to get money from so few. How the American people can let so few people buy this election is simply astounding.

mk1- Funny how it's fine for the UNIONS to pour hundreds of millions of their members dollars into the Democrats campaigns and George Soros and other billionaires can contribute huge sums to Obama, but if the SuperPACS do the same for Republicans, it's an attempt to buy the elections.

If you're an Obama hater, sorry, I've got news for you, you're hating the wrong person and I'm not talking about Romney, a Republican or Democrat. Do your research because your brain is programmed exactly the way "they" want it.

Republicans where are the jobs!!! People are simply hurting, They want to bring up every issue but jobs! Pass the infrastructure jobs bill so people can get to work! Quit using tax payer monies for this election(10yrs). It just goes to show that trickle down economics don't work. Let us get the president back in office with a good democratic congress(no dino)so people can get jobs! These republicans have sold their souls to the devil!

MY brain is programmed to be independent and self reliant. Your brain is programmed to be a government dependent and part of the collective. I like where I am thank you. I don't need the government running every aspect of my life thank you. Where is the :liberty" and "pursuit of happiness" in that life?

The jobs America needs are not the ones that push the federal government just deeper into debt. We need private sector jobs that both add value to the economy and bring new revenue to the public sector. The recovery needs to be lead by private companies and I guarantee you they would be pleased to do that. However, it will be much easier for them to justify the investment in growth if they were confident on the business environment going forward. The Obama Administration does nothing to help develop their confidence. However, a Mitt Romney win will assure business leaders and investors that the federal government will support economic growth. Until then, don't expect unemployment to drop below 8%.
