Congressional Black Caucus plans walk out of Holder contempt vote

Washington (CNN) - Dismissing a vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress as a "political stunt," a group of House Democrats, led by the Congressional Black Caucus, is planning to walk out of the House chamber on Thursday and boycott the vote.

The move mirrors a similar walk out by House Republicans in 2008 when Democrats, who then controlled the House, held a vote to hold two top Bush Administration officials in contempt of Congress.

In a letter to House members that is still being circulated for signatures, the Democrats opposed to voting on the GOP-sponsored resolutions state, "Contempt power should be used sparingly, carefully and only in the most egregious situations. The Republican Leadership has articulated no legislative purpose for pursuing this course of action. For these reasons we cannot and will not participate in a vote to hold the Attorney General in contempt."

The letter goes on to say these Democrats refuse to participate in any vote that "would tarnish the image of Congress or of an Attorney General who has done nothing but work tirelessly to protect the rights of the American people. We must reflect upon why we are elected to this body and choose now to stand up for justice."

A senior Democratic aide told CNN that in addition to the Black Caucus, which includes over 40 members, the Hispanic Caucus, the Asian-Pacific American Caucus, and the Progressive Caucus may also participate. It's unclear whether any Democratic leaders will join in the boycott.

The number three House Democrat, Rep. Jim Clyburn, is a member of the Black Caucus. The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings, who is expected to lead floor debate against holding Holder in contempt, is also a senior member of the CBC. There was no word Wednesday whether Cummings would participate.

Democrats preparing to boycott the contempt vote plan to stage a news conference on the Capitol steps - as the House is voting - to call on House Republican leaders to focus on creating jobs.

This is an issue that has been festering for 18 months without full cooperation from the AG..

Now when thier back is to the wall the CBC will stage a circus side show and play thier only remaining card........RACE.

The CBC will dramatically stage thier walk out. This is followed by Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton calling into CNN and babbling all day with thier infinite wisdom.

We might also be fortunate enough to hear the thoughts of Nancy Pelosi. However, with the heatwave the nation is experiencing her doctors might encourage her not to speak...out of fear her Botox lips melting. (She looks like the day shift at a second rate strip club).

Roger Clemons should call in to CNN, along with the racemongers. He should talk about his recent experience of being held in contempt of Congress.

Our founding fathers would be so proud. LAST ONE OUT GRAB THE FLAG.

Wholeheartedly, we believe in .president Obama, as we believed in a few others. A man of peace and justice, common sense and wisdom, integrity and claa, it is not a option if we want a brighter future, The world has came to see and understand the practices of many spiteful individuals that has attempted to distort the image and work of a good man simply because he is Black. From day one, we have witnessed the evil works of the republicans to discredit his position and authority. He is a great man and his wife is just a worthy, smart, and appreciated as President Obama. I am proud to say that i have witnessed greatness from this president and my philosophical outlook about certain people, places, and things has changed.

The ones who should be held in contempt are the weeper of the house (if he ever gets lung cancer from all that smoking he will use the superb medical insurance that taxpayers pay for him and since it's soooo good he will live to kow that every cigarette he ever had he shouldn't have smoked – same insurance he is trying to take away from us).
As far ads the tooth guy from VA. If your district is ever hit by another earthquake I hope the federal government doesn't bail you out again. Just like you didn't want to use federal emergency funds for the areas hit by hurricanes, floods and massive storms.

Here we go again. We play by our rules or we take our bat, gloves, and balls and go home. With SOME of my fellow Democrats, stupidity knows no bounds. It's about time these two scofflaw jokers (Obama/Hold-her) were called on the carpet and forced to come clean.

What are they hiding?! If its their usual and hypocritical lies, by now, we Americans are somewhat used to these scenes.

How can Americans still believe in Mr. Obama and/or have any respect for him or his administration?!

I have a dream that my three sons and one grand daughter
will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged
by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

    If you lie to Congress NO matter what the color of your skin;
NO man is above the law.

"Contempt power should be used sparingly, carefully and only in the most egregious situations".

So, I guess the killing of 2 U.S. citizens and over 300 Mexican citizens does not count as an "egregious situation"? Who instituted the operation? Who approved it? And WHY aren't they in JAIL? Those the questions whose answers could have precluded this whole fiasco.

Racism is still alive even in Congress. If you'e disagree with blacks on any issue you are considered as racist, so sad. They have to learn more what MLK said.

This is not going to make the NRA cartoon skunk, Pepe LaPierre, very happy. Wayne wants unlimited sales of guns, but has directed congress to go after Holder for a program that began in 2006. It is time that the NRA stop lying about being anything more than a right wingnut organization, as gun safety no longer is a part of their agenda.

It seems as though "progressives" are making a habit of running and hiding like frightened, spoiled-rotten children when things don't go their way. Very effective, guys, brilliant. Hope everyone remembers that in November. Good luck kids!
