BREAKING: House votes to hold Holder in contempt

(CNN) - The House of Representatives voted Thursday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in criminal contempt for refusing to turn over documents tied to the botched Fast and Furious gun-running sting - a discredited operation that has become a sharp point of contention between Democrats and Republicans in Washington.

The 255-67 vote marked the first time in American history that the head of the Justice Department has been held in contempt by Congress. Almost every House Republican backed the measure, along with nearly 20 Democrats.

where was the Gop when Under President Ronald Reagan America not only increased its
involvement in the Middle East by supplying arms to both Iraq and Iran
in their war against each other, but America stepped up its involvement
in conflicts around the world, especially South America. In 1998 the CIA
finally admitted to its involvement in drug trafficking in the United
States after years of federal investigation by the Kerry Congressional
Committee. What the CIA admitted to was allowing cocaine trafficking to
take place by Contras who were being supported by the CIA, using
facilities and resources supplied by the US government, and preventing
investigation into these activities by other agencies. This was done
because funds for the support of militant groups in South America had
been withdrawn by Congress so the CIA allowed the Contras to engage in
the drug trade in the United States in order to make money to fund their
military operations. If you are wondering why this was not covered more
widely in the news during the Clinton Administration it may be because
Arkansas was one of the major trafficking centers for the operation

the repos are so mad after thehealth care ruleing of course they want to continue this witch hunt in spit of evidence and commentary from boarder agents involved. Even thr NRA wants to make a big deal of this. Try reading the real reports all you repo boobs. Maybe Arizona should take responsability for the crazy laws they have allowing people to buy guns with out a back ground check or the people that come in and buy hundreds of thousands of guns at a time. Get real the repos are a bunch of whinney babies trying to discredit this president any way they can. Forward 2012 vote these clowns out.

Lynch mob was not going to be happy until they hung him from the highest tree. Even though they have been saying there was no proof of any cover up, White House involvement or conspiracy.
How proud all you GOPers must be to make history this way. Between this and your never ending desire to bring all that is Obama down. You can take your pointed with hats out of the closet now.

Americans are very forgiving when mistakes are owned up to, but at the very least we demand honesty.
The Obama Administration bailed out on the honesty of this tragic mistake.

The only people that got a tax today are the uninsured republican free loaders who show up at an emergency room and expect those of us who are insured to pay for it. Nice Glenn Beck delusion though.

  13. Who does Congress work for? AMERICANS!

If the average American walked off thier job because they did not like something they would either be considered as QUITING thier job or would get FIRED. As your Boss Congressional members who walked out, I consider your walk out as just another time that you have not done your job. YOUR FIRED!!!!

It sickens me that with all the problems confronting our nation at this time, the house can spend so much time on a vote that will have no meaning in the end. The only thing this has accomplished is to show again how partisan a group of do nothings we have supposedly representing us. VOTE THEM ALL OUT, that is the only way we can again have a government by the people and for the people.

  16. Really?

Truly sad when instead of working together to do GOOD, these GOP IDIOTS work together to wreak havoc, and cause chaos among us. If they put half of the energy used for this foolishness into brainstorming and finding solutions to strengthen this nation, we would have had a solid turnaround a LONG TIME AGO!! SHAMEFUL.

Republicans are very angry today and unsure of their future as things didn't go "as planned". This too, will backfire on them because we need jobs not lynch mobs.

Over 3,000 U.S. miliary men and women killed in Iraq over a war based on lies, the outing of Valerie Plane, the warrantless wire tapping and many criminal activities done under the Bush administration and the fact that Issa is holding Erick Holder responsible for something Bush started and Holder discontinued. DARRELL ISSA SHOULD BE DISBARRED AND FIRED, it is he that's the criminal. EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD BE ANGRY AND SPEAK UP.

Desperately trying to salvage the week, eh GOPers? Hoing to force a resignation as part of yuor election year strategery? YAWN. I repeat: YAWN. This is nothing more than symbolic partisan wang-waving. Issa even admitted it by having his aide offer to drop the contempt issue if the assistant AG involved would agree to resign in disgrace. ALL this is about...the ONLY thing thisis about...ALL OF IT...is the GOP/Teatrolls trying to cook up impeachment of Obama and, failing that, get a scalp from someone in the administration.

The most corrupt member ever assembled in one house to pass a contempt measure on the AG should be a badge of honor for him. At least he will be respected by the other 91% of the population

The 255 House members who voted in favor of this political stunt are indeed contemptible. Just more smoke and mirrors from the Party of No and a few cowardly Democrats. I hope they wear their NRA badges with pride so we'll know who to vote against in November, or, preferably, the August/September primaries.

Working together to do GOOD? This coming from the people that just cheered Patrick Gaspard for being rude, nasty to Republicans. I think Patrick Gaspard clearly stated what Democrats really think and feel towards Republicans.

A page from the Clinton years. If you can't beat them politically or intellectually, then they must be criminals.

  25. Really?

Myviews, your comparison is absolutely idiotic, and illustrates just how petty your kind is. Glenn Beck? Rush Limbaugh? Sarah Palin? Should I go on? Do these people, and the idiots that cheer for them represent YOUR Republican party?? Please elaborate.
