Excellent decision. The Constitution survives intact! We can do better and we will, but we will do it in a way that honors our founding father's brilliance, not Obama's political expediency.

Then hospital ERs should be able to turn away ANYONE who is uninsured and can't cover the full cost of their care at that moment. Maybe if more Americans took responsibility for their own health, my insurance company wouldn't have been billed $35k to diagnose & treat my broken thumb.

Does this mean we no longer have to pay for social security, medicare and medicaid?

Is anyone really surprised with this Supreme Court? They are chipping away at things that help regular people. Too bad WE all pay for everybody elses insurance – like congress and SCOTUS, yet we cannot do anything to fix the outrageous rae hikes.

If the POTUS would have been the "leader" he was elected to be, with a Congress controlled by Democrats in both houses, Obama should have worked to pass the Public Option which would have passed and prevented the SCOTUS ruling today. The President has shown that he is NOT a leader who was promising "change we could believe in." Although the court upheld the POTUS health care plan, it does not address the fact that those who need healthcare but can't afford it will still have to choose between eating and their medications. Health care should be a "right," of Americans, and not a privilege. This means this POTUS failed to lead the United Srates towards a single-payer system like most industrialized countries already have.

And Obama is a constitutional lawyer?

Nancy Pelosi said "I know the law" and its constitutional and "You have to pass it to see what in it". These statements and a plattitude of other oxymorons really inspires confidence in our leaders.

  12. There Will Be No Spiking of the Ball

I guess Boner was right for once: "There will be no spiking of the ball."

Can't spike the ball if the SCOTUS took all the air out of it, can you?

This is a right-leaning court, and they have found the ACA constitutional. So now we are going to see the Rethugs running further to the right than the right-leaning Supreme Court. On a good note for Republicans, Romney can now take credit for the whole bill. Actually, somehow this guy running around the country for the next 4 months talking about the Supreme Court getting it wrong on a healthcare bill that he invented is going to be a laugh a minute. He said his plan would be a model for the nation, and now he says it's unconstitutional. It's spellbinding to watch the guy in action.

I'll bet you 10,000 bucks that if the U.S. had 10,000 bucks for every lie Romney told, we could make a serious dent in the national debt.

Not a good week for Mittens. His immigration policy based on AZ legislation and his opposition and promise to repeal ACA make him look like an out of touch fool. Self deport Mittens!

  15. Liberal Activist Court

The Supreme Court ruled against liberty today. The decision that Americans must purchase health insurance by mere existence was based on liberal judges who have complete disregard for the US constitution of which they should have a nonpartisan interpretation of and who instead have made a judgement based politics.

Who wins here? I'll tell you the insurance companies. With all the extra people-no preexisting conditions- they have to take on they will turn around and raise our rates. The other winner is the govmt saving all the money on Medicare. The employed and the middle class just got handed the biggest tax increase in history because they have to pay for all these new people insurance companies have to insure. Healthcare costs will be increasing very fast and insurance premiums will be unaffordable within a decade. Then we'll all two options go without insurance and the whole system will collapse or go single payer.

What a wonderful thing the SCOTUS did.The people of this country deserve health care and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.Health Insurance is NOT only for the wealthy, It is for everybody. The republicans opposed it at all levels but yet they themselfs in congress get health care coverage and the GOVERMENT pays for it and they have a co-pay thats very small. But yet they want to STOP coverage for the middle class and the poor. These Republicans are discusting and now should be voted out of office.

How is it that some of the people who post these comments don't understand that those who do have insurance and pay their bills are currently paying for the millions of uninsured in this country? It's called cost shifting and has been going on in the medical industry for years. If you are insured, they charge you at least 10 times as much as they charge the uninsured. This means that the insurance company must pay more but since they are in buusiness to make money, the entire insured population will absorb the cost in an increase in premiums.

"If it is deemed to stand, then I'll tell you one thing. Then we'll have to have a president - and I'm that one - that's gonna get rid of Obamacare. We're gonna stop it on day one."

Not "gonna" happen, Mitt Romney - on day one or otherwise. You just aren't "that one" ... this year or any year going forward.

  23. Random Spewing of Annoyance

actually now the insurance companies may have to compete with the national insurance... so they MAY just have to lower the rates of health insurance to keep up with the national insurance so everyone doesn't go running to that.

you sound like someone who uses every situation to make an extreme political statement like everyone needing health care is a bad idea... ummm.....? since when? you are paying for them anyways.. hospitals can't turn anyone away.

not sure how you think this plan is so dramatically different than what is going on now.

did you not watch the lion king when you were younger? we have a system somewhat like the circle of life... i like to call it the circle of wealth.. if your filthy rich just get over it and help out people who aren't. sorry if you wanted that 100,000 dollar painting to decorate your house instead of giving a little bit extra to help someone in need...

    Further economic manipulation.

I cant believe Obama has actually said capitialism doesnt work. America pioneered the middle class precisely because of free markets. People emigrated here because we had more freedom and less government than anywhere else in the world.

Why do people want to destroy that? Think of the amazing growth in the standard of living and innovation across all sectors of our country in the 19th century. By any standard, it was Americas most productive century. The great migration from the farms to the cities took place in this time. All the products we use today from telephones to vaccum cleaners to washing machines and electricity were all pioneered under no income tax, or government regulation.

By definition, anyone who succeeds in a capiltialst free market system benefits everyone else. Wealth cannot be aquired or spent without advantage to all in the society.

China was poverty stricken until they adopted free market ideas over private ownership and the keeping of ones profits. They have a middle class today because they got rid of statism. I guess Obama thinks if they had stayed communist theyd be better off.

    Absolutely insane.
