Dem's tweet spikes the ball on health care, draws ire

(CNN) – Some Republicans took issue with an off-color tweet by the Democratic National Committee's executive director on Thursday, immediately following the Supreme Court's announced decision to uphold the federal health care law.

"It's constitutional. Bitches," Patrick Gaspard wrote on Twitter.

Thirty minutes later, the DNC official, who once served as the White House political director under President Barack Obama, offered a semi-clarification.

However, that didn't stop a snowballing uproar to play out on Twitter. As of Thursday mid-afternoon, the message had been re-tweeted more than 1,650 times, with both positive and negative reactions.

Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus called on his counterpart, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, to condemn the remarks.

The RNC's press secretary, Kirsten Kukowski, also responded to the tweet, calling it "inappropriate."

Earlier, the National Republican Congressional Committee, the body in charge of getting Republicans elected to the House, quickly re-tweeted Gaspard's original tweet, coupled with its own message.

Others, however, were slightly more amused by Gaspard's remark. Here's a smattering:

The DNC did not have an official comment.

@Myviewis: "I can see angry but to be so rude and hurtful is unacceptable."

Really?!? And all the lies, fear, hatred and division from the right is OK by you?

    Hypocrite!

    "Death penalty for grandma"?

Isn't she ALREADY in the process of dying? LOL They do enough giving themselves their own death penalty, getting themselves all flustered every day about what they THINK everyone's doing in their own bedrooms. So let the kook die! LOL

    @Myviewis
The fact that you became a naturalized citizen of this country does NOT make you an ex-foreigner as you ignorantly referred to yourself in a previous post, nor does it give you the right to "slam" somebody els's country (Congo, Africa). Furthermore, acting like a close-minded, bigotted, willfully ignorant Republican does not make you more of a citizen.

Cut your crap and get with the program. This law will benefit millions of your fellow citizens, and stop getting your panties all up in a fake outrage knot over Gespard's tweet. These morons in the GOP disrespect your President on a daily basis and I don't hear a peep out of your ex-foreigner's butt about that.

Backlash is not surprising considering the extreme lack of humor on the right. It's pretty clear to any rational, thinking person that this is meant as a joke. And before some of you rightie wackos start spouting that I wouldn't say that about somebody in the GOP saying something that's obviously a joke, I'd like to take the opportunity to state that you would be utterly wrong, like usual.

"WiredweirdinSF.....Thank you to all the democrat liberals and their dope addicted welfare fraud supporters."

And its that sort of rhetoric that makes tweets like this valid.

It is rude and inappropriate which is why Twitter shouldn't even be used in political circles. Apologize and move on. In short order the other side will make there own faux pas to compensate. Does anyone even remember the Hilary Rosen comment now? or care?

    To P. Gaspard:

To paraphrase my favorite line from Shakespeare:

Just because the enemy is a fool and an ass and a prating coxcomb, is it meet, think you, that we also should be fools and asses and prating coxcombs?

Maybe they don't want to "spike the ball", or being accused of doing so. Of course in the right wing alternate universe, no matter what, the Dems are danged if they do/danged if they don't. Probably better that they don't say anything so that the tighty righties can't twist their words in an attempt to use them against the Dems.

I was elated by the Supreme Court decision. However, our debate about this issue must remain civil and respectful at all times. Gaspard's remark was inappropriate and unnecessary. His second comment was much more befitting. I ask all who feel disappointed by the Supreme Court decision to look at Obamacare again with an open mind and see if there are not at least provisions that you could support.

When Boehner warned his colleagues not to "spike the ball" when the Supreme Court issued its ruling, he meant his Democratic colleagues.

I kind of have to agree it was inappropriate, but it's kind of funny Reince being all up in arms. If it had gone the other way, I'm sure he wouldn't have behaved any better. I expect better, but rarely get it.

Obamageddon (and you other delusional, fact-free right-wingers) – the reason President Obama "added" 5 trillion dollars of debt isn't because of spending, it's because he added in the 4.2 trillion that Bush left off the record books (Medicare Part D, two unfunded wars, two unpaid for tax breaks).

Ktr (and the other mouth-breathers) – The mandate or "tax" is NOT enforceable. The police or IRS can't and won't come after anyone who fails to purchase insurance.

Wiredweird – Hey broken record, you forgot to say "toady", your favorite ignorant word you put in all your ridiculous comments.
