Michelle Obama praises husband's 'historic reform'

(CNN) – Stumping for President Barack Obama on the campaign trail Thursday, first lady Michelle Obama added one more item to the list of accomplishments she normally boasts when talking about her husband.

"When it comes to healthcare, please, please tell people about the historic reform this president passed," she said, referring the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the health care reform law passed in 2010.

Her remarks came at a fund-raising event at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, where she cooked up support for her husband's re-election campaign as the Tennessee summer heat neared 100 degrees on Thursday.

"Because of this reform, help them understand that insurance companies will have to cover preventative care for things like contraception, cancer screening, prenatal care," she said, according to pool reports.

She also mentioned the measure's provision that makes it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage based on preexisting conditions.

Her comments follow those of her husband, who gave an address from the East Room of the White House hours earlier.

"Whatever the politics, today's decision was a victory for people all over this country whose laws will be more secure because of this law and the Supreme Court's decision to uphold it," he said.

Also Thursday, Michelle Obama gave a speech at the African Methodist Episcopal Church conference in Nashville.

If the president was a right wingnut, the baggers would be demanding that his likeness be placed on Mt. Rushmore.

I totally agree with Michelle. Who would have ever believed Democrats voting to introduce a new Tax? This is historical. Never would have anyone thought that Democrats would want the IRS handling Healthcare. Wow, never, ever did I see that one coming of Democrats with the IRS. I would have believed that Healthcare and Social Services but not a Tax and definitely not the IRS. Congratulations on the new Tax Law!

Did she mention that he told the American people that it was not a tax? HE LIED AGAIN, dopers and welfare frauds, HE LIED AGAIN, it is on tape if CNN or any of the liberally biased media will play it. Also remember he said it would not cost the American taxpayer one dime more, play that tape again and then tell how much more it will actually cost. I know that doesn't concern the dopers or the welfare frauds because they don't pay taxes and the unions are granted exemptions by the most corrupt president in history.

Our family sure thanks the president for his determination and we look forward to having YOU represent US for four more years as I don't think the country wants to work 2 or 3 minimum wage jobs and look at Ann Romney on the news each night stroking her expensive horses who would eat and live better than the average American.

Thank you for being YOU and staying focused on what matters which is the American people and not corporations.

To Myviewis – The "tax" isn't enforced. Meaning NOBODY has to pay a penny if they don't get insurance. The problem with you radical extremist fundamentalist right-wingers, is that you are too ignorant to accept facts. Part of the reason is because you all tune into the Fox Propaganda Channel and believe every word they say, when 99% of what Fox says is false. Also, the ACA is derived from almost entirely Republican ideas. Would you feel better if a southern old white guy introduced the legislation?

Even FLOTUS must be disappointed that it is already doubled in price and it is barely out of the gate. Of course, from her view in the Democratic Washington DC, the private sector is doing fine. Just fine.

Wiredweird – First, breathe. Second, wash your meds down with some cool water. Third, the penalty or "tax" isn't enforceable. You don't get insurance, you get a letter saying you owe $100 dollars. Only problem is, is that if you don't pay the $100, there is no repercussion. No law enforcement agency, or the IRS have any legal grounds to collect the tax. In fact, there is wording in the ACA to prevent anyone from collecting the tax. Apparently this fact hasn't made it's rounds in the right-wing circus tent yet.

If u do the total math on this, subtracting from what this health care reform will cost us, the amount it already cost us paying for those without insurance. It actually just about equals out. Which means that it doesnt really cost us anything more than we already pay.

I agree with Michelle, today was huge and the best part is that the GOP never saw it coming. Having a majority conservative court didn't help them at all. Oh, Michelle, that is a seriously beautiful dress. Looking good as usual.
