(CNN) – Former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann did not deny Monday whether she was being vetted for the job of Mitt Romney's running mate.
"Whoever it is that he chooses to bring in as his V.P., it will be a highly competent person who could step in at a moment's notice and assume the responsibilities of the White House," the Minnesota congresswoman said on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

Pressed further if she was being considered for the gig, Bachmann, whose name has not been frequently mentioned as a potential contender, left it up to the presumptive GOP nominee and his team to make a comment.
"Well, that's something for the campaign to answer on," she said. "That's not for me to make that decision, and that announcement."
While veep-talk has certainly been a swirling force on the campaign trail in recent weeks, Romney has only confirmed his campaign was vetting Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, though many more are expected to be on his list.
The former Massachusetts governor announced he was considering Rubio in mid-June after some Republicans grew upset over a report claiming the senator was not in the running.
Other potential candidates have kept mum on the veepstakes, refusing to say whether or not they may have a hat in the ring.
For her part, Bachmann was critical of Romney when the two competed for the Republican presidential nomination. As a candidate, Bachmann initially ran with large tea party appeal, frequently bucking what she described as the more establishment faction of the party that Romney represented.
The congresswoman did not endorse Romney until early May, several weeks after former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum dropped out of the race, a move that essentially locked up the nomination for Romney.
Asked repeatedly why she had held out in her support for Romney, Bachmann declined to go into specifics but maintained she was working "behind the scenes, bringing together all factions of our party."

Not that I would ever vote for Romney but to do this would be a huge win for Obama. That woman is crazier than the freak Palin!
If GOP is smart, they will run a less conservative ticket, and dont pick a looney Tea Bagger, or far right winger. They have 0 chance to win then. But if they could sway some fence-riding voters with a good VP pick, then maybe.... What does a VP do anyway? Their influence is minimal. Attend funerals for heads of state, walk the Prez dog in the morning? -PW
If Romney wants to do an encore of McCain/Palin, then he will choose Bachmann as his VP.
He probably will do an encore of M/P anyway, but choosing Bachmann will virtually guarantee it. She's an unabashed theocrat to the first degree, and I think the majority of Americans do not want such a dangerous loose cannon a mere heart attack away from the Oval Office.
Failin' Palin wasn't available? Good grief!
Whoever it is that he chooses to bring in as his V.P., it will be a highly competent person who could step in at a moment's notice and assume the responsibilities of the White House," the Minnesota congresswoman said ..
I guess that leaves her out.
Serously? Bachmann as VP. Has the entire GOP gone completely insane? She would be one bullet away from leader of the free world. She is dumber than a stump and batzhit crazy. She makes Sarah Palin look smart and rational.
Oh please, God, please–let Bachmann be the repuglican VP candidate!!!! Please, God??? That would ensure an Obama victory this fall, plus it would be fabulous entertainment watching her try to make cogent statements and embody rationality. Please, God–we could all use a good laugh or ten. Please, please let Romney pick Bachmann. Ok?
I think that she will pair up well with Romney especially with her views on the economy, women's health and job creation etc. It certainly is a losing ticket for the GOP
Please....Oh PLEASE!!!!! Go for the Bachman.... then we can get this overwith quickly and get back to work restoring our nation. M!tt, we need you to throw in the towel...I mean the Bachman! Do your country a service – for once!
You have got to be kidding me!!!
If he chooses Bachman I will vote for (OMG I can't believe I am writing this) Obama.
OMG! I can't stop laughing. Please Mr. Romney, do it. Everyone is right, it would be even better than 2008!!
She has about as much chance of becoming Mitt's VP as I do. Nice of Piers to stroke her already over inflated ego though.
She is standing in front of a mirror right now practicing her "surprised" face.
Just how delusional is Michele Bachmann or her followers that she could even think she has the slightest chance of being asked to run for VP with Mitt Romney? Look at the Sarah Palin debacle of four years ago, I believe Mitt Romney is intelligent enough to know he needs someone with years of experience in government. Someone with senator or governor on their resume. Someone that would not be a lightning rod to controversy. One of my strongest memories of Bachmann is at one of the debates when she was commenting on Herman Cain's 999 plan and all she could come up with to say is if you turn it upside-down you get 666, the number of the devil. Not a very good commentaryand it doesn't really show her in a good light.
Is today April 1st?
"Whoever it is that he chooses to bring in as his V.P., it will be a highly competent person who could step in at a moment's notice and assume the responsibilities of the White House,"...
Well, looks like she's out of the running already! I hope they pick someone as incredibly divisive, reckless, and goofy, though. It would be a hoot.
I'll bet Palin is working overtime to get the call.
I'm still laughing....
you got to be kidding me. GOP please flush these fools out of your ranks!
Picking Michele Bachmann would be a brilliant move for Romney. He'd energize the right, and he'd bring in those who want a no-establishment candidate on the ticket. If I were in Obama's camp, I'd worry about this a lot.
Oh, who am I kidding??? I can't say that with a straight face. I just hope the Romney people stopped reading at the end of the last paragraph. Go or it, Mitt! We need some good entertainment, and you sure aren't providing it, so let's get this nutjob back in the spotlight. If you want folks to pay attention to your campaign, that's the way to do it.
Oh please, oh please, PLEASE pick Bachmann, Mr. Romney! Or Roseanne...'bout the same gravitas.
Bachman for VP? Dear God, please NO!.
Just when I thought she may have wrinkled away ...... here she is again !! I will not read the news in the morning anymore; my day is ruined with nausea and disgust to think this airhead could be VP. YUUCH !!!
One can only hope for such a "dream ticket"! For Obama, that is. Can't wait to see her posing with a corn dog again- maybe Robme could hold it for her? That would exemplify team work. If she were selected for VEEP, that would give her more opportunity to explain some previous declarations, like $2/ gal. gas. Yeah, can't wait.
Well, that would sink Romneys little ship. So maybe we should be all for it! Look what Palln did for John McCain. I'll never forget the frozen smile/grimace on his face as he stood behind her as she spoke. Bachman could tell us all about the Commies in our government, how there are markings on the back of highway signs so the Chinese..or aliens from outer space, whichever..can find their way. A font of truth and sensibilty. HA!
Bad enough we have to watch Romney dis his own health care idea in Massacusettts....wihich seems to be working by the way..calling it a bad one for the rest of us. How pitiful this man is! He will say and do ANYTHING to be president., dance to any tune. Just look at his eyes as he is speaking. Wild and scary.
