(CNN) – Former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann did not deny Monday whether she was being vetted for the job of Mitt Romney's running mate.
"Whoever it is that he chooses to bring in as his V.P., it will be a highly competent person who could step in at a moment's notice and assume the responsibilities of the White House," the Minnesota congresswoman said on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

Pressed further if she was being considered for the gig, Bachmann, whose name has not been frequently mentioned as a potential contender, left it up to the presumptive GOP nominee and his team to make a comment.
"Well, that's something for the campaign to answer on," she said. "That's not for me to make that decision, and that announcement."
While veep-talk has certainly been a swirling force on the campaign trail in recent weeks, Romney has only confirmed his campaign was vetting Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, though many more are expected to be on his list.
The former Massachusetts governor announced he was considering Rubio in mid-June after some Republicans grew upset over a report claiming the senator was not in the running.
Other potential candidates have kept mum on the veepstakes, refusing to say whether or not they may have a hat in the ring.
For her part, Bachmann was critical of Romney when the two competed for the Republican presidential nomination. As a candidate, Bachmann initially ran with large tea party appeal, frequently bucking what she described as the more establishment faction of the party that Romney represented.
The congresswoman did not endorse Romney until early May, several weeks after former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum dropped out of the race, a move that essentially locked up the nomination for Romney.
Asked repeatedly why she had held out in her support for Romney, Bachmann declined to go into specifics but maintained she was working "behind the scenes, bringing together all factions of our party."

Choosing Bachmann would be history repeating itself, another Palin type mistake. It would guarantee a President Obama victory in November.
Yes, Yes, Bachman that's the ticket ! ! !
"Whoever it is that he chooses to bring in as his V.P., it will be a highly competent person who could step in at a moment's notice and assume the responsibilities of the White House..."
Could you imagine Bachmann as President? Biden, maybe, Rubio possibly but Bachmann? It boggles the mind...
...and the Dems start praying that Romney will ask Bachmann.
Dear Republicans: Please, please, please, please make Ms. Bachmann your VP nominee. I mean, what could possibly go wrong with nominating an unqualified, slightly mentally delusional female to your national ticket? Sincerely,
Americans With A Brain
Bachmann is still delusional after all these years. As much as I think Romney is a pandering liar I don't believe that he is stupid enough to even consider someone as off the wall as Bachmann. This is all so irrelevant. The only important thing is to vote out all right wing nuts in 2012 and not vote in any others (from Romney down the line to the local level politicians)
If Romney chooses Bachman, President Obama should send him a Thank You card. This woman does not have the mental capacity to run this country if something were to happen to Romney. She is as scary, if not scarier than Palin. You see how well that worked for McCain. Doesn't matter anyhow, President Obama will be releceted – regardless of the billionaires who are backing Romney. I have to turst that the American People are not dumb enough to let the wealthest in this Country buy the White House. . . If the choice is on leadership alone, President Obama hands down!! Unless you all want to work for the Chinese.
SHEESH. if rmoney actually chooses her as a running mate he will guarantee a democratic victory.
As a woman, I would be pleased to have a women as president or vice president but they must be qualified to lead, have the knowledge to govern and the ability to win-over her own party and many Independent voters. Bachmann has none of these requirements. However, as a lifetime Republican turned Independent after eight years of Bush and Cheney, I would not vote to put a Republican in the White House no matter who the candidates were. Today, a good and decent man sits in the White House and, for the sake of our county, he should be relected in November.
If the GOP was smart, and we all know that there not. Having Michele Bachman has V.P. would be a sure way for Mitt Romney To Lose. It all most has Back has John McCain having Saran Palin and we all know what happen there.
Even the GOP aren't that stupid. Oh, but think of the fun SNL would have had...
Yes, please pick her. Then her husband can finally come out. Too many purses have been dropped.
I'll vote for her as soon as she realizes the precedent for taxation on services which are not applicable to all is currently set. For instance, why am I forced to pay school taxes when I have no biological children simply because I own property? When she joins us in the real world I'll consider her.
Please make my dream come true. I have missed Palin, Cain, Perry, newt so much! I hadn't laughed so hard in years! Ole Mittens is sooooooooo boring and just plain stupid without comedy. Bachman is a comedic goldmine!
She makes Palin look like an intellectual giant.
Bachmann: Not for me to make that decision. Really? Oh wait, it's God's decision isn't it. And in other news, cat litter leads to women committing suicide......I wonder if Bachmann has any cats.
She makes Sarah Palin look serious and informed, and Dan Quayle look like a Nobel Prize Winner. What is it with the GOP and Borderline Intellectual Functioning vice presidential candidates?
Jeez!! no offence but Mitts you better give up if you think she can be your vp.
A scenario if she was President: a major financial crisis in Asia has sent the price of fuel to over $7 a gallon, a terrorist attack in Europe kills dozens of US citizens, the Mississippi has breached its banks and much of St. Louis is underwater....and Michelle is in meetings over how to block a proposed Clay Aiken concert in Baltimore.
I think Bachmann would be a stunning choice. A sure winner. Unstoppable.
Anyone else find it funny that the most prominent book on the shelf behind her is one about Ronald Reagan? Conservatives seem to try to bring him into everything.
I am frightened by the idea of Bachman any where near the oval office. This can not be true. Has Sorry Palin not taught these people anything? Bachman is a lying wak job. What happened to John McCain when he marched out his lying wak job. Please tell me the man who might be president is just this stupid?
It's scary, but there are times when Bachmann makes Sarah Palin look smart.
one can only hope that Romney is that shallow and obseqious that he feels that he has to pick a darling of the far right.
oh please please please pick her!
all dem. leaning independents and dems will surely be dancing
in their driveways, the streets-–please yes-she is your ticket republicans! (wink)
