Obama raises $71 million in June, trails Romney

(CNN) – President Barack Obama's re-election campaign announced Monday that it, along with the Democratic National Committee, raised $71 million in June from more than 706,000 donors.

The amount lags far behind the $106 million Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee raised last month, a number the campaign made official early Monday.

However, Obama's campaign last month predicted it would be out-raised by Romney's campaign and noted in an email to supporters Monday that the month of June still proved to be the campaign's "best month of this election so far."

"But we still got beat - and not by a little bit," Ann Marie Habershaw, chief operating officer for Obama for America, said in the email. "If we lose this election, it will be because we didn't close the gap enough when we had the chance."

According to the campaign, more than 706,000 people donated in June, with more than 181,000 of them contributing for the first time.

More than 98% of contributions last month were less than $250, with the average donation coming in at $52.54.

Romney's campaign, meanwhile, said Monday that 94% of their contributions were $250 or less, adding up to $22.3 million, which is just over a fifth of all money Romney raised in June.

In May, the combined efforts between the Obama campaign and the DNC took in $60 million and had slightly less than $110 million in the bank.

While Team Obama did not acknowledge Monday how much money the campaign has in the bank, Romney's campaign announced it finished June with $160 million cash on hand.

And all the news outlets cheer. Hip, hip, hooray for the coming advertizing season. When do we start counting the "corporations are people" donations. What a thrill for the Koch brothers to be able to say– we put that president in office.

When is Romney going to start using all that money to come up with an actual platform?

Exactly. He has none. And he will lose.

Wow...$106M to talk whole alot while saying absolutely nothing...interesting. Guess who's going to be paying for all that wasted plutocracy ammunition after they lose because Deputy Doublethink is running on rampant vagaries and sweeping ideological platitudes instead of a realistic, practical, specific platform in which he takes actual positions, STICKS WITH THEM, and defends them with facts, evidence, historical record, etc? What do you think happens to the price of milk at Walmart when the Walton's politcal contributions to conservatives start getting extremely high? What do you think happens to their hiring practices or pay rates? Hmmmm?

Everyone doesn't need to get their panties up, The United States is NOT For Sale and even if Romney raises tons of money thats is NOT going to win the POTUS . The people of this country are very aware of the GREED and POWER that destroyed their livelyhoods and actually their lives period.President Obama will be RE-ELECTED because the average american can not re-visit and re-live that nightmare again and they won't. I've been saying all along that Mitt Romney just does not have what it takes to be the POTUS.I don't know why he doesn't, there's just something about him that doesn't cut the mustard. I'm sure he's a nice guy but that doesn't qualify him to be the POTUS. He will be better going back to Wallstreet and doing what he does best at his desk working on spread sheets ect. And finding new ways to get out oif paying Taxes! Thats the AMERICAN way. LOL..LOL....

Millions shmillions. The huge donations and spending from industry giants like Walmart et al will just end up being paid by the rest of us anyway. "Crap...we failed to get our preferred puppet appointed as President of the Plutocratic States of America...guess we'll have to jack up prices a bit and reduce pay and benefits to make up for it."

"I guess things aren't moving off the shelves of Obama's online store very well"

That's what happens when whole industries sit on record amounts of capital in order to extend a recession and keep unemployment high and people broke in order to attenuate the fundraising of someone they see as a threat to their stranglehold on a nation's wealth and governance.

No, Mitt Romney will not buy the election. He will win the election because he has a better plan, better capabilities, better experience and as you see here, people recognize that. We can do much better than throwing new debt at the same policies and debunked economic experiments. We can manage our way forward. Really. Romney 2012.

A little less than half of what Romney and his businesses could throw together for Romney and yet Obama will still win.

Funny how so many are upset with Romney for out raising President Obama, they were most likely the ones cheering when Obama out raised McCain in 2008.

Obama has the bully pulpit and that more, way more, than makes up any fundraising differences. It's probably worth one billion dollars in advertising.

Let's face it, Romney is bringing in money from his wealthy cronies–Obama is bringing in money from us middle class. If Romney were elected president you know who would be running the show-his wealthy cronies-Rove–Koch brothers-Norquist. Romney would be only their puppet......that is scary!!!!!!!!!!! America bought and paid for by the rich. Bye Bye middle class....

  23. Obama 2012 - BEND Forward America, take another 4 long years of OBAMA FAILURE

Obama's problem is that failure isn't selling and people aren't stupid. Hope & Change is now Changing the Subject from his record. Naive people gave the inexperienced community organizer a chance and he has proven himself to be WAY over his head. He has ZERO leadership ability. He has shown ZERO willingness to work with Republicans and has gone to the class warfare well over and over and over. He is the ultimate divider when this country needs to be united to save it.

People sending Obama money are investing in the destruction of the USA. Four more years of this disaster-in-chief and the country is doomed. He out there trying to tell us 8.2% (really more like 14-15%) unemployement is just fine. He's just doesn't have a clue, even after 4 years in office. It appears he already knows everything and doesn't have a need to learn.

Romney must be getting a lot of big checks from the polo and dressage crowd. We've all seen the pictures of Tea Party rallies and know they are going back to their double-wides and cutting $20,000 checks. They hit the dipstick double, voting AGAINST both their own AND the country's best interest at the same time.
