(CNN) - Conservative websites were abuzz Tuesday after one suggested it was ironic that the NAACP requested reporters covering a speech by Attorney General Eric Holder bring two forms of identification, a common practice at major events.
Holder has spoken out - most recently in his speech at the convention on Tuesday - against state laws that would require individuals to present photo identification to vote.

"In our efforts to protect voting rights and to prevent voting fraud, we will be vigilant and strong," Holder said at the NAACP convention in Houston. "But let me be clear: We will not allow political pretexts to disenfranchise American citizens of their most precious right."
He said voter ID laws, such as one proposed in Texas that his Justice Department is fighting, are "harmful to minority voters," who may be unable to travel to or afford to obtain suitable identification.
The conservative website Townhall.com pointed to an NAACP press release, which it said requested reporters bring a government-issued photo identification as well as a credential from their organization when checking in, which is not unusual at that type of event.
"What did media need in order to attend? That's right, government issued photo identification (and a second form of identification, too!), something both Holder and the NAACP stand firmly against when it comes to voting," a post to the website read.
"Ironically, NAACP President Ben Jealous railed against voter ID just before Holder took the stage," the post continued, adding a quote from Jealous' remarks.
Other conservative websites posted on the matter, including one site that wrote, "NAACP Requires Photo ID To See Eric Holder Speak About His Efforts To Stop Voter ID Laws."
In addition to the voting issue, Holder has been in the spotlight in connection with the Fast and Furious gun-running sting. The House of Representatives voted last month to hold Holder in contempt of Congress over his refusal to release some documents relating to the program, the first time a sitting attorney general has been held in contempt by Congress.
lol the way the GOP has been going after Holder he should have made all the press go through x-rays. Besides this is gun loving Texas I live here and I don't blame him.
This is not about electing someone... this is about unannounced trolls trying to get into an event to heckle. Big difference.
I had to show my ID and proof of address when I voted in the recent Utah primary. Is this not a common practice in other states? How else can people prove that they are who they say they are?
As Attorney General, Holder should not be publicly bashing a law that has already been upheld by the supreme court. Doing so only makes him look like an idiot, and brings about the question as to whether he can, or will, uphold the laws of our country. It's extremely obvious that he's yet another poor choice for his post.
Conservative being dishonest about something? Please say it isn't so. There's a big difference between attending an event being put on by an organization (whether private or public) and the right to vote. One is a privilege and the other is a RIGHT. I bet that conservatives are the only ones who unaware which one is the right...
Racism is always acceptable in the cause of inclusion. If you can not understand that then you can not successfully survive in the new, failed America.
I wasn't able to find it on the NAACP website, nor the DOJ website. Are we sure it's not a figment of somebody's imagination?
"A common practice at major events" – where? CNN reporters should specify and substantiate this statement. I routinely visit federal office buildings for work purposes, which require only ONE photo ID. I have attended a number of events requiring more security than a NAACP conference, and none required two IDs.
Holder and the NAACP are hypocrites. CNN should not make unsubstantiated generalizations to protect them.
Only liberals could be this hypocritical. I still have never heard one reason against voter ID, especially when the ID is given out for free. But liberals use rhetoric to argue against it using punch lines. What they really mean is that they cant win elections without voter fraud.
The conservatives are a joke, rather than win an election fair and square they have to cheat. People need to ask the question: how is it now all ode a sudden they claim voter fraud and it's just before a presidential election? An investigation done by the Bush administration showed little if any voter fraud. There is no voter fraud this is just an attempt to steal the election. The GOP knows if the people that came out in 08 to support the president came out now the GOP would be history. There only hope now is that if they can block enough votes
another case of how america kiss up to the shake down group naacp,,,double standard...you bet...
What a hipocrite !!! Just think all them elderly and minoities that got stopped at the door trying to see this racist criminal speak!! His ID should be a prison #............
