Romney draws boos over Obamacare at NAACP convention

(CNN) – Mitt Romney touted his economic and educational proposals, tailored his message to the predominantly black audience, and beat back an isolated, though seemingly uncomfortable, smattering of "boos" in an address Wednesday to the nation's oldest civil rights organization.

During his speech to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's convention, the Republican presidential candidate stressed the need to reduce government spending: "If our goal is jobs, we have to stop spending over a trillion dollars more than we take in every year. And so, to do that, I'm going to eliminate every non-essential, expensive program I can find. That includes 'Obamacare.'"

Minorities have been hurt dramatically under Obama's administration. The black unemployment rate is 14% overall – and 50% among young adults.

NAACP? Did he bring wipes to clean his hands after shaking hands?
Sorry but this bishop doesn't even look comfortable among white rich people. What makes him think anyone else cares what he has to say?

He need to do Townhouse meetings in their communities like he does and white surburban areas.
Of course that is giving advice to a party that said they don't need the black vote to win the presidency in 2008.

Kind of a hopeless. That group goes only by the color of a mans skin, not the content of his character. That is the kind of hypocrisy that reigns supreme among democrat liberals.

Romney did say he liked Clinton's policies, and Bill raised taxes to get us out of the republican recession. Mittens has now taken every side of every issue.

No self-respecting African-American would vote for Richie Rich. His church has a long history of racial intolerance. The same goes for females. Romney is the ultimate candidate for wealthy white men, but totally wrong for everyone else.

I agree with you that it's hopeless. But I totally disagree on your second statement. We know the content of Willard's character and it's not good. His policy proposals are not in the best interest of African Americans nor the country as a whole.

At least romney is courteous enough to personally speak to the group even though he knows they won't vote for him because of the color of his skin. obama is stiffing this group. talk about taking them for granted. but then again, that is what the democrat party does with the blacks. uses them at election time then ignores them or uses government programs to keep them all on the democrat plantation. somebody these mindless droids will wake up. but i doubt it.

Romney & his GOT-Party are "saving" the 1%! No1 else needs to apply! Obama stands for the 99%, aka. the rest of us! No matter what "utopia" Mitt is trying to present, his loyalty lies w/the rich, the richer, the richest & of course corporations, which are his friends!!

I wonder if Mittens can sell his, "Save the Plutocrats" program to the NAACP.

The GOP cares nothing for African Americans, non-Christian Americans, all other minorities and women.
Romney would find more success selling bikinis in Antartica.

WOW! Racists are out in full swing this morning. FIRST off, it has NOTHING to do with the color of Obamas skin that has him pulling in 90% of the black voters. Black voters have voted Democrat since the 80's! This is NOTHING new! Like women voters favor Democrats. When Hilary Clinton runs in 2016, she will pull the majority of women voters, not because she is a woman, but because historically women vote for Democrats! GET OVER IT!

Either he went in wanting to bait and antagonize people with the whole "ObamaCare" line, which makes him out to be hoping those boos will make him look better to racist voters, or he thought they would applaud him mindlessly, which makes him out to be an idiot. Especially when he had nothing to back up his position beyond saying, "ObamaCare is bad, bad, bad." Nothing brave here, folks. Move along.

"At least romney is courteous enough to personally speak to the group even though he knows they won't vote for him because of the color of his skin. obama is stiffing this group."

Oh cut the crap. Did you get that talking point from Red State or World Net Daily or some other extremist right wing online echo chamber or what? Freekin nonsense. This is a great example of the entire problem in a nutshell: HWO THE FRIG DO WE HAVE A SANE CONVERSATION WITH PEOPLE WHO JUST RATTLE OFF THE LATEST BASELSS SPIN THEY HEARD ON FAUX NOISE OR FROM SOME RIGHT WING TALKING POINT FACTORY?

Mittens got booed and should...needs to...take it seriously and try to understand why. Instead, he'll get a free pass from his blind supporters, who will ignore the very serious and legitimate issues that underlie WHY he got booed for what he said. Making up nonsense about this solely being a matter of "black people done likes them some black POTUS, so of course they's gonna boo the white devil" or "oh yeah, well Obama is dissin' his peeps cuz he hasn't scheduled a speech in front of thhem yet" IS JUST MAKING EXCUSES AND IGNORING REALITY. Denial is the core reason the GOP/Teatrolls are in the trouble they're in going forward over the next couple decades, particularly in terms of demographics. Get with the program and start dealing with the facts and reality instead of living in an ideological bubble.
