Romney weighs in on releasing tax returns

(CNN) – Mitt Romney responded to recent Democratic-led attacks on his personal finances, suggesting Wednesday he had no intention of meeting their demand to release tax documents dating back prior to 2010.

"The Democrats are always going to be critics. We have released all of the financial statements required by law and two years of tax returns," Romney said on Fox Business Network.

Over the last week, President Barack Obama's campaign and national Democrats have been blasting Romney over reports that the candidate holds offshore investments in places considered to be tax havens for Americans–Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and Switzerland.

On Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden launched one of the campaign's harshest lines of attack yet, calling on Romney to "show your papers" during a speech in Las Vegas.

Romney's campaign has been pointing to the fact that it released the candidate's tax returns for 2010 and an estimate for 2011, as well as further financial disclosure documents required by federal election law.

Romney, whose worth is valued up to $256 million, said Wednesday he'll put out his most recent year of tax returns "as soon as that's prepared."

"Tax information is there, other financial disclosure is there; the same level of information that John McCain and John Kerry for that matter released when they were running for president," Romney said.

Also in the interview, Romney responded to those who say he's not tough enough in fending off attacks on the campaign trail.

"I respond to the attacks that come, but they say in politics if you are responding, you are losing," he said. "I think the better course for our campaign is to respond to the attacks as being completely off base."

And as speculation swirls over when Romney will announce his running mate pick, the candidate declined Wednesday to give any hint into the decision-making process.

"I can't tell you anything about the VP process. If I did, I would have to come after you with my 'Men in Black' flashlight and erase your memory," Romney said referring to the popular movie.

He isn't half the man that his father was. His father disclosed twelve years of tax information. What is Mitt hiding, when he can't even follow the good example of his own father?

"the same level of information that John McCain and John Kerry for that matter released when they were running for president," Romney said. "

LIE LIE LIE!!!! John Kerry regularly released his tax returns whenever he was running for Senate and so, when he ran for POTUS, releasing the 2 required by law brought his total up to more than a decade's worth of tax returns. The Globe regualrly ran articles on his tax returns. He was religiously transparent with them. Mittens is LYING.

For his 2010 taxes Pres Obama claimed $373,289 in itemized deductions. Another slew of tax deductions he took (Foreign Tax Credit, Capital Losses, money in deferred asset accounts) meant he avoided paying $311,937 in taxes.

He claims he doesn't need those breaks. Why does he take them??? He takes a conscious effort to claim them, which he does.

It doesn't matter about the Tax returns, he's not moving in to the White House anyhow. He's going back to Wallstreet and hang with his buddies and find new ways to buy big bussinesses load-em down with product, insure the hell out of them then file Bankruptsy, shut-em down and collect the money.Oh yea, send the checks over seas to evade TAXES !! LOL..LOL....

  22. Lies, Lies, Lies

"Also in the interview, Romney responded to those who say he's not tough enough in fending off attacks on the campaign trail."

Well, that's easy people, you fend off attacks against you on the campaign trail by making up lies, and then you only go on Fox News where you know that none of their news anchors are going to actually call you on the lie (or they will receive a pink slip from Rupert Murdoch).

The truth of the matter is that John Kerry actually released 12 years of tax returns when he was running for POTUS, not 2 as Romney keeps claiming. Romney has already been corrected on this fact back in mid April 2012, yet he continues to lie to the American public about it as the excuse for not releasing the information.

He lies easily, and he lies often.

Oh, I cannot wait for the debates when Romney will get this question about his tax returns and will not be able to lie his way out of the truth.

  23. Four and The Door

Good answer. I like it. Let the Democrats speculate their hearts out and dwell on these non-issues. Obama is most comfortable and happy getting all wrapped up in politics anyway. Give them something to blow dumb people's money with while Romney 2012 talks about issues that concern the American people.
