(CNN) - Mitt Romney and Rick Perry were bitter rivals last autumn and early winter, during the battle for the Republican presidential nomination, but that's apparently all ancient history.
Friday the Texas governor will make his first campaign appearance on behalf of the presumptive GOP nominee, an official with the Romney campaign confirms to CNN. Perry will be in Elko, Nevada to headline the opening of a Romney campaign field office. The former Massachusetts governor will not be at the event.

Perry dropped out of the race for the White House in January, two days before the South Carolina primary. He then endorsed former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for the GOP nomination, but in late April he switched his endorsement to Romney shortly before Gingrich suspended his bid for the nomination in May.

Keep Perry in Elko, Nevada, heading up the itinerary for the opening of a FIELD OFFICE. Hopefully the media will be taking a nap and will not cover this momentus event. It's not like the keynote speech at the Republican convention, as far away from it as the Koch Bros can make it. Perry tarnishes their image, as bad as it is. He's certainly nowhere near the sharp knives, for sure.

Can't wait to hear ther spin on how he loves Mitt. The Republican primaries were so bloody that they will have a hard time pulling back from all the name calling of each other.
If I were looking to develop real political chops and look presidential, bringing Mr. Perry to the microphone wouldn't be my first choice.
