Reid: Romney couldn't be confirmed as dog catcher

Washington (CNN) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blasted Mitt Romney Thursday in personal and biting terms, so to speak, telling reporters the presumed Republican presidential nominee could not be confirmed as "dog catcher" by the Senate.

A day earlier, Reid said on the Senate floor that Romney "couldn't get approved" as a Cabinet officer, because "he won't show anybody his income tax returns."

"If he doesn't qualify to be a Cabinet officer, how could he qualify to be President?" Reid asked Wednesday.

Thursday, he took it a step further.

"He not only couldn't be confirmed as a cabinet secretary, he couldn't be confirmed as dog catcher. As a dog catcher, you'd at least want to get a look at his tax returns," said Reid with a look of disgust on his face.

The Democratic leader didn't leave it there. He also attacked Romney for a Boston Globe report Thursday that Romney left Bain Capital 3 years after he said he did. The Romney campaign disputes the report, and FactCheck.org backs them up, saying they don't see evidence Romney stayed at Bain longer than he said he did.

That didn't stop Reid.

"He said he left Bain to go to the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and stop any association with Bain, and his SEC filings indicated that he was Chief Executive Officer, sole stock holder and ran the corporation for at least three more years," Reid said of Romney.

Reid wasn't the only congressional leader to dive more deeply into presidential politics Thursday.

Across the Capitol, less than an hour earlier, House Speaker John Boehner tore into President Obama over the issue of outsourcing.

"Americans are not only asking the question 'Where are the jobs?,' I think they have a right to know where the hell the Obama administration shipped their tax dollars overseas during a recession here at home. I think the President owes every American an explanation," said Boehner.

Republicans have been attacking the president this week by saying stimulus dollars ended up paying for jobs overseas.

But again, a fact check by the Washington Post showed there is little evidence companies that received federal money used it to pay workers overseas.

I just have one question for you Reid. How did a failed boxer like you with nothing become a multi multi millionaire. Obviously you didn't work for it.

We should subject Mitt Romney to 5 months of ENDLESS speculation regarding his taxes until he shows returns going back 4 years BEFORE he held elective office. That would be MORE FAIR and more relevant that the birthier nonsense the President endured.

In the words of Donald Trump, " A LOT of people have a LOT of questions" about Mitt Romney`s illegal tax shelters and secretive offshore bank accounts.

When Romney releases photocopies of returns, we should demand the originals. Liberals should be unrelenting in their pursuit of Romney. He`s trying to clean up something in his financial history that he doesn`t want John Q. Public to know.

Just think it is only July. Over 4 more months of this nonsense. Guess their mothers did not teach some congress persons how to play nice. Or they just forgot how to be decent human beings

If he were a dog catcher, he'd just load them all up on the roof of the truck, then hose down any of them that got sick.

Quite a comment coming from one of the most crookedest Senators. How about Reid posting all the earmarks he has placed into legistlation and who benefitted from them? How about telling us how much he and his fmaily will financially benefit from the hi-speed rail from LA to Las Vegas? How about he treat Governor Romney with the respect he demands for President Obama? How about he resign his Senate seat and give it to someone who cares about America instead of himself?

Dog catcher, no. Gold medalist? Perhaps.

Romney is in the final stages of training for the "Freestyle Hypocrisy Relay" at the London Olympics. Unlike the other teams, Romney is running all four legs himself in the event. And he is still favored.

  10. Mr 1% the "VULTURE CAPITALIST BUSINESSMAN" will outsource all the poor, disabled, unemployed and elderly, to China and sell America to the highest bidder!

Certainly not now, since Mr. 1% has admitted to committing a felony in 2001 when a filing was done stating he owned Bsin but he is now vigorously saying he was not.

I would say Senator Reid is spot on.

  12. GOP puts "chri$t" in "chri$tian" since 60% of the GOP believes they should not care for those less fortunate!

Just another case of the self-righteous right stating those pesky laws about filing those SEC forms are for the "little people".

What do the anti-abortionists think about Romney owning Stericycle, a medical waste disposal company, through Baines, that disposes of aborted fetuses? Anti-abortion, yet doesn't mind making money off them. Anything goes to make money for the top 1%.

    What illegal tax shelters?
    These are all legal
Take it up with the govt, as both sides have tons of people keeping their investments offshore, like the DNC chair DWS.

The GOP solution: Turn all Old, Sick, Poor, Non-white, Non-christian, Unemployed, and Gay people into slaves. Then whip them until they are Young, Healthy, Rich, White, Christian, Employed, and Straight. Or until they are dead. Then turn them into Soylent Green to feed the military.

Love Boehner's attempt at furthering the "Obama is an outsourcer" meme. The GOP is desperate. Must be if they picked Flip Romney as their candidate.

But please keep harping on Romney being rich and successful.
That's a great tactic, and it looks like it's working really well, NOT.
Of course, too bad Obozo can't run on a successful record.
YAY, let's vote for 4 more years of economic failure and "Blame Bush" excuses.
Yay, that should help the poor.
Harry, you need to take your Alzheimer's meds.

Sen. Reid's premise is correct that Mr. Romney could not be vetted for a Cabinet post. His way of delivering the message was a little harsh. However, Mr. Romney is just dragging this out. It makes folks wonder shy he will not release his records. What is in these records?

And what EXACTLY is Willard going to do? The folks in Scranton, Stockton, and Georgia want to know so they can make an informed choice. No one is enthusiastic over a clown who has been running for the same job for over 6 years. What solid set of principles can anyone point to? Knee-jerk reactions and governing by Etch- A- Sketch is not a strategic plan for this country. All Reid did was point out the unpleasant truth that Romney is nothing special, he is not the man who can fix what ails us. A man with multiple degrees in business and law, born into privilege, who hems and haws and shifts his positions daily is not someone with evolving positions, he is someone with no core, no morals, only ambition.

Back to the original point. Reid is right. Romney would be rejected out of hand for Senate confirmation of any position and escorted out of the building if he offered the insane argument that how he made his money and why he sends it overseas is no one's business. And yes, common sense dictates that whatever Romney is hiding is a BFD.

"Gov. Romney has stated that we cannot raise taxes on the ultra rich as they are the job creators via hiring and investments."

Ok, you ignorant moron, how are they "creating jobs" in the U.S. when like Mittens, they keep their cash in the Caymen Islands and Swiss bank accounts?

You pathetic Fox sheeple, if Fox says it, then it must be chiseled in the same stone as the 10 Commandments, right?

Again Reid opens mouth and out come crap as always.

The only job this clown has ever had is the one we pay him for and held accountable for all the out of control him and his party has done he wouldn't have a job. I can't even think this guy would ever have a performance review except for the stupid people who elected him in the first place.

You keep yelling for tax returns how about you and your clowns just do your jobs and stop giving away my hard earned tax dollars so you can keep the 42% of the people who doesn't pay any taxes voting for you without them you would never be elected.

Every time I see you and Nancy you guys make me sick (pass the bill then we will read it) why do you think this country is in such bad shape don't forget your party controlled both houses from 2007 – 2010 when all the out of control spending and budget requests were voted down until your walk on water Obama became President.

All of you guys make me sick and this is a perfect example of why we should have term limits and no retirement unless you use a 401K like the rest of us have to.
