(CNN) – The latest television attack from Mitt Romney's campaign hits President Barack Obama for his 2008 campaign slogan "hope and change," using clips of television pundits wondering if that pitch has expired in the 2012 contest.
"It seems like a lifetime ago that candidate Obama was talking about hope and change. Today, after four years of broken promises, President Obama is left to simply run 'negative' and 'inaccurate' ads," read a statement accompanying the ad's release.

The spot uses clips of television personalities questioning the increasing negativity of Obama's 2012 campaign. CBS host Bob Schieffer, shown during an interview with Obama senior adviser David Axelrod, wonders in the ad: "Whatever happened to hope and change? Now it seems he's just coming right out of the box with these old-fashioned, negative ads."
On his show Sunday, Schieffer reacted to the new Romney spot, saying the campaign hadn't sought permission to use his clip.
"That was a question that I posed to David Axelrod for the president's campaign manager. I wasn't stating something there. I was asking somebody else a question," Schieffer said.
David Brooks, the New York Times columnist, also appears in the ad. He's shown saying on NBC in May: "By starting negative, by going extremely tough and extremely hard, looking conventional, and frankly running ads that are inaccurate."
And Mark Halperin, a Time magazine columnist, is shown saying on MSNBC in June: "Barack Obama's campaign and allies will run more negative ads against this Republican nominee, in 2012, than have ever been run in the history of the world."
Halperin also weighed in on clips of him being used in Romney's ad:

On CNN on Sunday, Axelrod responded to the allegation that the Obama campaign has relied too heavily on negative campaigning, saying its rivals were equally responsible for airing negative spots.
"Ninety percent of the ads that have been run by Romney and his allies since March have been negative and aimed at the president, so I think it's a mistake to say that our advertising has somehow been more negative," Axelrod said.
On Saturday, Obama's campaign released its latest negative ad, which features Romney singing "America the Beautiful" while the ad flashes the names of countries where the Obama campaign charges Romney either "shipped jobs," "outsourced," or stored portions of his financial portfolio.
The ad was the fourth in the past week from the Obama campaign.
Responding to the Romney ad Sunday, Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith asserted the Republican candidate was avoiding questions on his record.
“Mitt Romney can continue to run ads bemoaning serious questions about his career as a corporate buyout specialist, but he can’t run from his record of leading investments in companies that were ‘pioneers’ in outsourcing and investing in foreign tax havens and offshore accounts," Smith wrote. "It’s time for him to come clean about his involvement at Bain Capital from 1999 to 2002 and follow decades of precedent set by his own father and release additional tax returns."

Translation.. Governor Romney doesn't stand a chance if this barrage from even the GOP keeps up, but we still are not coming clean on Bain.
Damage control damage control, mayday mayday..
This is the MSM at its best...cooperate in a political ambush and then attack the ambushed party for fighting back...before the NEW MEDIA was formed you might have gotten AWAY with this...now you are just at the bottom of the media barrell with the rest of the has-been dregs!
When you can't impress voters with accomplishments what CAN you run on?
Answer – Hogwash!
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with B.S.
The American way, sadly.
maybe romney camp should setup in the caymans–they own all the camping sites there
Romney quote: "if I tell you what I'd do, you wouldn't vote for me", enough said, you wouldn't buy a car without knowing what is under the hood.
Im so confused??? A negative AD is a good thing if accurate and points out something I didn't know about the other candidate. Negative to me means the ones that get 4 pinoccios from the Post and everyone snickers at the deception. Now who has run mostly that kind??? GEE let me guess could it be OBAMA the Chicago Pol
PS that means do anything, promise them anything and smear the other guy through any means possible including legal trickstering! OPPs again Obama
As usual, they are lumping all the negative ads of the Super Pacs in with the ones running for office. The least they could do is tell their audience which one is which.. because neither President Obama nor Mr Romney have any say in what the Super Pacs put out. We need to reverse the Supreme Court's decision of bringing in the Super Pacs in the first place.
"There is no whining in politics," chided John Weaver, a veteran Republican strategist. "Stop demanding an apology, release your tax returns."
Romney told Americans to look at his experience at Bain as proof of him being better on the economy. That turned out to be a bad idea. Now he wants Obama to apologize for using the Bain off shoring of jobs against him? Please, if the shoe was on the other foot, do you really think that would happen? No.
Question for Mitt "Let Detroit Fail" Romney:
How is a giving tax cut to a Wall Streeter who peddles exotic financial derivatives creating jobs for America?
See the bigger picture here is that the Romney campaign and Republicans in general, have no policy positions to offer other than that of the tired rhetoric that, "tax cuts and deregulation" are the answer to the problems with our economy.
It's obvious by now that cutting taxes for the rich did not create jobs. From 2000 to 2007, the United States lost one in five (3.5 million) middle-class jobs. This is with corporate profits at an all time high since 1960. The 2005 CBO data show that changes in law enacted since January 2001 increased the deficit by $539 billion in 2005. In the absence of such legislation, the nation would have a surplus that year. In 2010, when all the Bush tax cuts were finally phased in, a staggering 52.5 percent of the benefits went to the richest 5 percent of taxpayers.
President Bush and his supporters argued that high-income tax cuts would benefit everybody because they would unleash investment that would spark widespread economic prosperity.
Never happened.
What about the endless sloganeering against "regulations" by the Republican Party? Republicans like to call regulations "job killing". I admit the phrase is heart breaking and disparagingly clever, but the fact of the matter is that regulations create jobs and ultimately support the general welfare of all the people of our country.
Look at it this way: If you have Social Security, Medicare, the right to vote, the right to an education, a clean park or a lake near you or an FDIC insured place to put your money. If you were given a disability check or a wheel chair ramp into the store you buy your food, if you like safe bridges, clean drinking water, clean air and a nontoxic environment, if you feel safe when you fly, or eat out, or give your child a toy, then it's time you give liberals and "regulations" the credit they deserve.
these repubs goons act like they have nothing to do with hope and change that Obama wanted to bring, when the same day he was being innaugurated they was in a hotel plotting the country's demise, so they can make come through their treasonous statement of making this president a one term president. they should all be sent to prison for treason.
The party of birthers complains about campaign tactics? The party of Carl Rove? The party of Richard Nixon? Give me a break!
The Romney camp is in full whine! Well, Mitt...why not release all your tax filings for us to see? Your father released 12 years of taxes when he ran for President and you gave 23 years of tax returns to John McCain 4 years ago when you were being vetted for Mccain's VP!
There must be somethintg in those returns that Mittens doesn't want us to see. Notice that after seeing all 23 years of Romney's returns...McCain picked Sarah Palin! LOL
Obama charges Romney with outsourcing jobs and not coming clean on foreign bank accounts then why doesn't Obama have Holder charge Romney with a crime? if Obama has legal, concrete evidence that Romney did comit a crime with offshore bank accounts, outsourcing jobs and not being involved with Bain after 1999? Does Obama have proof? If yes, put it on the table. If not, apologize and find a new gimmick, distraction. And then Obama can show us his transcripts, medical records, and tell us how and why he went to Pakistan in 1981??? Oh yes, Obama can also tell us why he did not renew his law license and allow it to expire in 2002? we never did get to see his paperwork back in 2008. Now, Obama can produce all that we want to see of him. Nothing to hide, right???????
Who destroyed the economy in the first place?
The sooner Mitt releases his record the better for him. America, you have to knwo that the world leaders are watching Mitt lie. Even if he wins, Mitt will definately have difficult winning over China, Putin in US foreign policy. Venezuela and Iran will call MItt a liar at the UN meeting, other countries will laught at a president who lies. Any election is about character. How long will he hide his record. Proove you are clean and challange Obama. Iam a republican, but cannot stand a person who lies.
If it wasn't for the negative ads Romney would not be the republican nominee....he really needs to stop crying.
If this is the best they have in July.......Obumbo's in trouble!
Etch-A-Sketch Mitt RobMe whining about being attacked?!!.....this is karma coming to bite him in the butt when he did the exact same thing and relentlessly attacked Newt GinGrinch & Rick Santorum!
So now, all of a sudden mitt robme is sitting there crying, ‘I can’t believe you’re doing this. I can’t believe you’re doing this,’ waaah waaah waaah. what a crybaby. Grow a spine mitt!!!
Even Republicans are begining to see mitt robme for what he really is...A WIMP!
And America continues to pick the lesser of two evils from two parties of corruption. Great job, USA! Way to be perfect little sheople and continue to get fleeced.
its funny Obama is saying Romney cant run on his record......it seems to me Obama does not want to talk about 2008-2012....
Obama is toast.
Bbroken promises are the result of the republicans voting against anything Obama proposed. Including trying to repeal healthcare a ridiculous 31 times. It's scary that the GOP can cause the problem then fully flip the blame as if they had nothing to do with it. Even scarier that people often believe it..
Something keeps telling me,........Don't trust this guy
Mitt Romney Campaign appears to be the most dishonest Presidential campaign in my lifetime.
Don't trust this guy......Don't trust this guy!!!!
What part of "Now it seems he's just coming right out of the box with these old-fashioned, negative ads" is a question, Bob?
