Perry: Obama should apologize for 'insulting' lawsuit

(CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday that President Barack Obama should apologize for his Justice department's "insulting lawsuit" against a voter identification law in the Lone Star State.

Perry took a swing at U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Obama in a statement issued ahead of the president's campaign trip to Texas.

"Perhaps while the President is visiting Texas, he can take a break from big-dollar fundraisers to disavow his Attorney General's offensive and incendiary comments regarding our common-sense voter investigation law," Perry wrote in the statement.

Perry continued: "In labeling the Texas voter ID law as a 'poll tax,' Eric Holder purposefully used language designed to inflame passions and incite racial tension. It was not only inappropriate, but simply incorrect on its face."

"The president should apologize for Holder's imprudent remarks and for his insulting lawsuit against the people of Texas," Perry concluded.

Perry's comments come during a heated national debate over the validity of voter identification laws.

The Justice Department is challenging a Texas law that would have required voters to present photo identification before casting a ballot, a requirement that Holder says would disproportionally affect minorities.

On Monday, a panel in Washington reviewed Texas's request to uphold their voter identification law, which proponents say protects against voter fraud.

Holder told the NAACP last week that voter identification laws could be politically motivated, as it is thought the laws would help Republicans at the polls slightly more than Democrats.

On Tuesday, Obama will attend a luncheon in San Antonio hosted by the city's mayor Julian Castro, U.S. Rep. Charles Rodríguez and actress Eva Longoria, followed by a fund-raiser. Then he will speak at another event in Austin, also followed by fund-raiser, before heading back to Washington.

GOP policies are all about exclusion. We are now in 2012 and tolerance and inclusion are now apart of our society. Deal with it GOP.

Wow, this is coming from someone who ran one of the most pathetic, incompetent presidential campaign in GOP history. Isn't Perry the gov who slammed states who asked for assistance from the Federal Government and then ran whining to DC when his state caught fire? Yeah Rick, I am certain that the president is going to appologize to a governor who has spent so much time with his tail between his legs that he doesn't know how to walk normally.

We actually create jobs in Texas so Obama should take notes. It would be a worthy pursuit instead of being the anchor relentlessly drowning the economy.

Texas ? Really ? The Minimun Wage State ? The state that creates so many jobs ? Texas will always be the loser until the People demand better Leadership and NOT let the Money make them feel inferior and less than human by giving them the lowest paying jobs in the state. The middle class in Texas ? Almost NON existante.Their middle class get $25,000.00.................That is Poverty not middle class. And there is no one there to protect them from being kicked down period. On top of that, Rick Perry is NOT going to give the people access to the Affordable Care Act, AKA " Obama Care ".............The people of Texas need to TAKE CONTROL of their state and BOOT people like Perry OUT !

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

President Obama prefers that Americans have jobs that pay livable wages vs. type where minimum wage, no benefit workers sell junk made in China to one another. The latter are the type being created in texass.

Anyone who thinks that the United States is better off under Obama than we were 4 years ago, are probably fall under the rubric of Socialism, Communism, Statism, etc, all that this President espouses.

It's funny to see a man, who has never worked in the private sector, owned a business, worked himself up in the private sector, yet becomes President via his lies and ideologies, espousing the beliefs Saul Alinsky and his ilk.

Why is Holder still involved. The man is an embarressemt ... Obama's love fest with him must be more then meets the eyes ... and if it is ... I dont want to see that ... perhaps that has more to do with his support of gay marriage than anything else

Obama is keeping Texas reliably red. More reasons than ever to keep the Fed Goverment out of our affairs so we can keep growing. If it was up to Obama oil & gas jobs in Texas, PA, ND, CO would all be stifled but free enterprise won out. Four more years of the Imperial Presidency could be disasterous.

Really Rick Perry? Have you put into place mechanisms to make sure that people can GET those IDs you are demanding they have? Have you made sure that it won't cost them anything to be able to get them? A Voter ID shouldn't cost anything because the right to vote is guaranteed.

Perry should aplogize to Texas military men and women who were serving and dying in a war for his threat to have Texas sucede from the Union. This man is a total idiot.
