Outside political donors still shrouded in smoke

Washington (CNN) – Depending on whom you ask, either Democratic efforts to force big-dollar donors out of the shadows are a smokescreen that hides union clout, or Republicans opposing the efforts are just blowing smoke in an attempt to ensure well-heeled donors stay anonymous.

"Right around an election, when the campaigns start rolling in the money, we're going to hear about disclosure from whichever side is getting less," said Lisa Rosenberg, a government affairs consultant who lobbies for financial transparency for the Sunlight Foundation. "Whichever party is feeling beaten up is going to say, 'We need to fix it.'"

  2. BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA has a FAILURE PROBLEM

Is it funny that all the money Obama and the Democrats raked in in 2008 (almost a billion dollars) wasn't a problem yet once they started falling behind the Republicans, now there is a problem that must be fixed. Yeah, the Democrats are loosing on the field of ideas and the campaign fund raising field and it is becuase THEIR FAILED IDEAS STINK. The problem is NOT that Obama and the Democrats can't raise enough money to sell their snake oil to the American people! The REAL PROBLEM is that all they have is snake oil to sell!!

Hey, I feel your pain... I tcan't be a pleasant job trying to sell 4 years of Obama failure as a glowing success story. It didn't work in 2010 and won't work in 2012.

Well we know Labor Unions won't donate to Republicans so that's a give away that Democrats don't want us to know how much Labor Unions are donating to Democrats or Obama campaign and then there's Wall Street that has always been a big donor to Democrats, may Democrats or Obama don't want us to see how much Wall Street has donated to the Obama campaign. We know Republicans struggle to put monies together, Democrats have very rich people on their side.

This is all this article boils down to: "And Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a moderate Republican who has supported earlier overhauls of campaign-finance law, dismissed the Disclose Act as an election-year stunt by Democrats."

I do have to say I have so many friends in the energy business who would not be donating if they were not protected from the liberal lunatics that would harassing them & their businesses daily over supporting Romney. It feels pretty d@mn good to donate to PAC's who have the spine to speak the truth about Obama's myriad of failures . Money well spent and no repercussions.

This is the atmosphere that the right wing fought for all the way to the SCOTUS. Happy? You got what you bought.

EXACTLY!!! The standard leftist, union thug intimidation practice to SUPPRESS OPINION AND FREE SPEECH. That is ALL this BS is about. Leftist Democrats want to carry it even further than ever as they get more and more desperate with every passing loss.

The writters here state "Republicans opposing the efforts are just blowing smoke in an attempt to ensure well-heeled donors stay anonymous."
The premiss here is that "Well Heeled" people only give to Republicans. That is completely false. President Obama recieved more donations from Wall Street groups in 2008 than Mcain and Obama raises funds from some of the richest people in the country from Hollwood. Trying to correct the earlier piece where CNN ignored the Union side of the equation they still bare their biasis.
If you want more ballanced anf fair reporting, you need to go elsewhere to find it.

You mean the atmosphere of UNINTIMIDATED FREE SPEECH?? Yes! VERY happy!! Only those with bad ideas and records don't like it. Guess that means you and your leftist Democrat party.

  11. Vote the Tea Party OUT in 2012

Republicans want people to work, they just don't want you to be able to make a decent wage with good benefits while you're doing it. Of course if you're managment or CEO then it is different. I have worked on jobs both with and without unions and I prefer one without IF the company treats it's employees fairly. Yes there have been rotten corrupt unions which the right seems to love to focus on, and there have been also rotten corrupt corporations that abuse their workers which the right seems to love to ignore. I say disclosure of ALL donors...let's see where the money is comin from.

Don't worry, if Democrats and Obama get their way we'll all be working government jobs as there will no longer be small businesses.

Who will be intimidated yb disclosure:

    A. Joe Wealthbomb, who has so much money and influence and power that he can afford to drop $10M on a political donation to get some puppet elected...

    OR

    B. Joe Unionworker who can only afford to donate $50 and works for the guy in "A" above?

THIS is why the GOP/Teatrolls are angry. Not because Joe Wealthbomb will be afraid to drop wealthbombs all over GOP campaigns, but because Joe Unionworker won't have to disclose under the Disclose Act and thereby be intimidated by the rich and powerful (and his employer), because all he did was pay union dues that the union then chose to donate.

why do democrats always want to tell other people what they can do with their own money? i guess they don't like people spending it on something other than paying taxes to support their socialist utopia?
