Romney says no VP choice yet

(CNN) – Mitt Romney has not yet decided on his running mate, he told a crowd at a campaign town hall in Ohio Wednesday.

"I can assure you that even though I have not chosen the person who will be my vice president, that person will be a conservative, they will believe in conservative principles," Romney said in Bowling Green after being told by a questioner he needed to keep "an ear to the tea party" when making important decisions.

Speculation about who will be chosen as Romney's running mate has ramped up in the past several days as various reports emerge that he may be getting close to an announcement.

At one point in his rally Wednesday, Romney mentioned Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who some have speculated could be a choice for Romney's running mate. Rubio's name was met with cheers in the audience, with one man in the crowd shouting "Great choice!"

Romney used his town hall on Wednesday to hammer President Barack Obama for a remark, made last week, that business owners rely partly upon the government for their success.

"If you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own," Obama said at a rally in Roanoke, Virginia, on Friday. "There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business - you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."

That remark, which Romney began using on the campaign trail Tuesday, became the centerpiece of his speech Wednesday. At one point in his remarks, Romney asked all business owners in the crowd to stand, thanking them for their hard work and chastising Obama for what he said was "the height of foolishness."

"It's like saying Steve Jobs didn't build Apple. Or Bill Gates didn't build Microsoft. Or that Henry Ford didn't build Ford Motor Company or that Ray Croc didn't build McDonalds or that Papa John didn't build Papa John's Pizza," Romney said.

Romney, citing the number of campaign fund-raisers Obama has held in the past six months, said the president's "priority is not creating jobs for the American people, his priority is trying to keep his own job and that's why he is going to lose it."

At one point during the questions and answer period, a woman asking Romney a question slammed Obama for policies she said were hurting her son's small business.

"He has a string of stores, and because of this awful economy that Obama's created, now he's had to lay off people and he may have to close some stores. And it's all because of what this monster has done to this country. We have to have you as president."

Romney said "monster" was "not the term that I would use," but that the woman "had every right to be angry."

Nice photo. Is that Mittens pointing and laughing at an unemployed middle-class person who pays a higher tax rate than he does?

  3. BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA has a FAILURE PROBLEM

As Obama falls in the polls along with our economy, I wonder if he'll replace Biden with his original choice, Hugo Chavez? Obama needs to just come OUT of the socialist closet and be honest with the American people about who he is and what he believes.

even though no choice has been made yet, Romney will keep talking about it to avoid talking about his tax forms. The Romney camp is very good at changing the subject when something they run into becomes uncomfortable for them to either discuss or defend. Gay marriage, healthcare and immigration are prime examples of this.

Gee, I wonder if Mr. Romney is reviewing his VP candidate's tax data like McCain did?

. . . Failure problem – Now that was funny. Beck, Hannity, and Rush would be proud of you for having no idea what a socialist is. However, the plutocrats you work for will not take over the US.

And Willard release the full disclosure of your Swiss bank account that should be accompanying your ONE year of tax returns released to date. Come on now. We'll wait impatiently while you collect the rest of the other 11 years the American people want to see...

  11. Mr. Conservative Values

Romney is a real slick salesman who's now trying to convince the American people that disclosure and honesty are for the other guy and not himself.

Here is your basic Romney campaign lately: I am lower than a snakes belly, people, so I'll have to bring the President down a notch or two or three or four so that I can complete with him. If I can't compete on his level, I'll have bring him down to mine.

Vote Mitt Romney: Because this country just hasn't sunk low enough yet.

"Failure doesn't know what a socialist is, and besides.. the US has been a socialist country for the last 70 years."

Not so fast. we're not a socialist country in any way, shape or form. Sure, if you apply the overly broad, mangled, hallucinatory and hyperbolic definition of "socialism" currently in vogue with the right wing extremist Teatrolls, then I suppose it might fit, but the reality is, the government does not own and control all means of production, etc. etc. etc. In reality, collecting taxes to run the gov't, build roads, have police and fire departments, pay officials and their staffs, etc., isn't socialism at all. It's just a reality of having a unified nation with any government whatsoever and trying to make progress for society. Fact is, we're knee deep in plutocracy, have been for over 70 years and the "free market" is an quaint daydream promulgated by the people who actually control the economy, which makes it technically not "free" anyway.

  21. Not Presidential Material

He keeps packaging himself different ways to different crowds to try and wangle their vote. As far as I know, he has lost every election except one, Governor of Massachusetts. Go check out You Tube and see how this guy packaged himself in order win that election and ask yourself what kind of person this is. Or you could just blindly trust him.

I don't care who he picks as his VP, my vote is not going to a slick snake oil salesman who panders for votes of the ignorant masses while pointing his finger and screaming at the top of his lungs that the other guy is not transparent and honest.

    Clue in people.

Good guess but no... While he was eating "cheesy grits" and pretending to be down-to-earth in one of the red states he learned a great new joke. It starts with "pull my finger"! I'll bet he's sorry he didn't know that one back in prep school.

Agreed, Woodrow Wilson and FDR were the origin of the socialist cancer in this country and it has been a slow bleed on the country ever since. We are now almost out of the life blood that made this country great as we have more government dependents than we do contributing citizens. One more term of the socialist Obama adminstration and we'll be dead and buried.

Very convenient that you stop there and leave out all the other federal government prorgams that ARE socialist programs. That is how socialists do it, slowing infect the host with this program and that program until the system is overwhelmed and dies. It is happening in many countries righ tnow in Europe. We are not that far behind.
