Weiner: No plans to run for mayor

(CNN) – Former Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner, who resigned last year amid scandal, said in an interview published Wednesday he had no immediate plans to run for office.

“I can’t say absolutely that I will never run for public office again, but I’m very happy in my present life. I’m not doing anything to plan a campaign,” Weiner told People Magazine when asked about rumors he was considering a run for New York mayor.

In June 2011, the former New York congressman left office in his seventh term after being caught sending lewd messages and photos to at least six women other than his wife, Huma Abedin, deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

It came to light shortly after his resignation that Abedin was pregnant with their first child.

Weiner argued that last year was “the best year of my life” and discussed his time of being a stay-at-home dad with their now 6-month-old son, Jordan.

“I’ve had enormous regrets about what I put Huma through, how I let my constituents down,” he said. “But it’s not like I sit all day replaying it in my mind. With a baby, it’s pretty easy to put things into perspective.”

Sitting alongside her husband during the interview, Abedin said she was “proud to be married to him.”

“My husband did a really stupid thing. It was an extremely painful time,” she said. “But there was love and a commitment to this marriage. … It took a lot of work to get where we are today, but I want people to know we’re a normal family.”

Give the NYC Democrats the candidate to speaks to their values, a man they admire and wish their children would grow up to be, John Gotti Jr.

Weiner like Edwards are examples of the most honest, moral, and faithful a Democrat can be.

Imagine a lib giving 15% of their income to charity like Romeny, well if they did actually want to do that much good then they would surely have given up the Democrat party long ago.

How could he ever be considered seriously for elected office. We elect ONE PERSON to be mayor of the greatest city in the world - NYC. And we use that precious opportunity to elevate a guy who has the judgment to tweet photos of his bulging underwear to strangers? Now why would we do this? NYC is full of other capable and fine people. Why not choose a better leader rather than a "celebrity figure" like Weiner? Really - Weiner vs. Kardashian. What would be the difference?

I really did not understand the so-called mistake he made whether affected anyone. It was a minor mistake which required him to be reprimanded. Can people compare Antony Weiner's mistake and Romney's ignoring the public by not issuing his Tax Returns? This is the real issue. The whole country might suffer major consequences!

"He'll run for something again and Dems will vote for him. See Charles Rangel. Wash, Rinse, Repeat."

Sanford, Craig, Vitter, Ensign, etc etc etc....the list goes on.

Attributing that kind of behavior to one party's members only is as stupid as accidentally tweeting a pic of your wang to the general public.

Weiner should run again for congress. He was one of the better Democrats in Washington before resigning, we just know a bit more about him than we know about other Democrats serving there. Democrat voters, even those who are literate, are pretty savvy, if they can re-elect Rangel they could re-elect Weiner with a landslide vote. He is young enoough to become president in 2016.

This guy was hands down my favorite congressman. He shouldn't have let the media throw him out of office. Hope he runs again.

He indeed screwed up, and caused a lot of pain to his family. It seems that all politicians (well almost all), manage to make a major blunder (or two). It also seems that after that they get their affairs (pun intended) together and fly straight. Hopefully that will be the case with Anthony. I am (as you may have guessed) a strong believer in a failure makes people stronger/better! YMMV

Why would we want to elect a guy to the highest office in the land who refuses to release tax returns? Given the choice between Weiner and a Weasel I would go with the Weiner.

    1. prove that Jr is a democrat 2. I assume you are still lumping in the "required' tithe of $10,000 that Flip MUST pay yearly to his church? Not to beat a dead horse with you clowns but THAT IS NOT CHARITY

You really should go spend some time in districts like the one that elected this lib. Observe how people treat each other to Republican districts. Decent Americans have a moral obligation to vote Republican.

Well done Huma. Yo not only get to keep your husband, you now OWN him. Make him spend the rest of his life trying to make up for his randiness. That of course, until he does it again...which he will. He'll just be more careful next time.

Like other disgraced New York Democrats, Weiner will enjoy a long tenure as an MSNBC host.

I heard that Wiener will not be running for mayor but WILL run in a 401K race for cats. BESIDES I do not think we're ready for Wiener in office I think we need a Grundle first much more relatable to both males and females of your species.

Americans need to put things in perspective. Was it a totally stupid thing Weiner did? Of course but between him and Huma. No one else's business. We lost one of the best in public office and he never should have left. He didn't steal anything or kill anyone or for that matter break any laws. What a waste. Team up with Spitzer Anthony. We can use both of your brains on telling it like it really is in our government . As Americans we rail against these minor moral issues but still listen to the likes of Cheeney who is a war criminal, torture proponent and a murderer of thousands of our young men and women who he sent to a bogus war and still has no regrets and is welcomed on capital hill. Put it in perspective people.
