Morgan Freeman gives pro-Obama PAC a million

(CNN) – Actor Morgan Freeman, currently starring in the latest installment of the Batman franchise, donated $1 million last month to the super PAC supporting President Barack Obama, the group's filings with the Federal Election Commission will show on Friday.

In a statement, Freeman listed the accomplishments he said spurred his donation to Priorities USA Action.

"Pres. Obama has done a remarkable job in historically difficult circumstances," Freeman wrote. "He ended combat operations in Iraq, put in place sensible reforms of Wall Street, saved the auto industry and protected the health care of every American. He has led our nation to be more tolerant and placed impressive, accomplished women on the Supreme Court."

The actor said he was "proud to lend my voice – and support – to those who defend him. Priorities USA Action is doing a great job of protecting the values I believe in. I am happy to help them and I hope others will join me."

Other Hollywood names have also donated to the pro-Obama super PAC, who has lagged behind rival groups supporting Republican challenger Mitt Romney in fund-raising. Jeffrey Katzenberg, the chief of DreamWorks, has donated $2 million to Priorities. Steven Spielberg and Bill Maher have also donated to the group.

Freeman, who won an Oscar in 2005 for his role in "Million Dollar Baby," currently stars as Lucius Fox, the man who builds Batman's armor, in "The Dark Knight Rises." He donated $2,300 to Obama ahead of the 2008 election, according to filings with the FEC.

    Still doesn't even come close to the 100 plus million that Sheldon Adelson is willing to spend on Romney's campaign. We hear that just 190 or so people might donate to the GOP this year to a tune of 1 billion dollars. If that isn't trying to buy the election I don't know what it is. Dems are going to be outspent in this election big time no matter what people like Morgan Freeman donate. Really pathetic.

    @PaMom

    Perhaps the GOP who created the economic crisis know how business works? And what has President Obama done to hurt small businesses? Absolutely nothing! President Obama has been in office for three and a half years and he has not imposed one single tax on small businesses whatsoever. Furthermore, President has offered small as well as large businesses tax breaks and millions of dollars in incentives to keep workers and to hire new workers. Please stop the rightwing propaganda and lies.

    @Dave

    If Bush was a bad president, Obama has made things worst? Well, if you're a conservative you're correct because what you people call failure, the rest of America calls success. And I thank God that President Obama has been able to clean up all of Bush's mess, restore America's image, made us safer from global terrorism and return us on the path to progres and prosperity once more. Obama/Biden/Roberts 2012!

    Shocker. Another Hollywood elite throws Obama a cool mil. I'm getting sick of hearing Hollywoods opinion and the fact that Obama is acquainted with so many of them. Whether its because he likes to pretend he's in Hollywood or because he values their opinion, neither reason is good.

    Thank you, Sir, for your generous contribution. The world is looking at the Americans differently now than when Bush/Cheney were in office. We are now a more respected nation with compassion.

    Thanks, Mr. Freeman. Maybe this will spur more people to give to Obama's Super Pacs. I really wish there were no Super Pacs though. But we have to fight fire with fire, sadly.

    What I'm wondering is why the people giving to Obama's super pacs seem to be proud of it and reveals who they are when Romney's super pac investors want to hide who they are?

    Billionaire Sheldon Adelson has just completed building his $4.4 billion Macau empire in China, which is the world's sixth largest building and the largest resort, hotel and casino in the world. It toot 25,000 Chinese workers to build and it now employs 35,000 Chinese workers. The project was delayed due to the 2008 recession and also delayed two years because the Chinese government refused to import foreign workers. The massive complex opened earlier this year following a traditional Chinese dragon dance, high-wire tightrope performance and the unveiling of a 2,500 kilogram (5,500 pound) bronze and gold "God of Fortune" statue.. O' and by the way, Mr. Adelson has just donated $100 million to Mitt Romney's campaign. As they say, those who Outsource together, flock together.

    Silly you.......Romney's donors wants something in return, they are trying to buy the US, and people like you is going to allow it to happen. One of Romney donors said that he need to connect more with the common people. Well I guess you are one of the common people he is connecting to. What a shame, because Romney does not give a damn about us.

    Thank you Mr. Freeman. And thanks for being loud and proud and about your donation as opposed to the secretive donations to Romney's super PAC's. I concur with all the reasons you listed and then some. President Obama is what we need to continue to move this nation forward and in a way that is fair to all and not simply on the backs of those who are least able to tolerate it.
