Poll shows Americans want to see Romney's tax returns

(CNN) – A majority of Americans say presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney should release income tax information beyond the two years he's already disclosed.

The USA Today/Gallup survey showed 54% of those surveyed felt Romney should release tax returns from additional years, compared to 37% who said Romney should not release more returns.

Romney has released his tax return from 2010, and an estimate for his 2011 information. He filed for an extension on submitting his taxes in April, and has vowed to release the full return when the documents are finalized and filed.

Democrats, and some Republicans, have urged Romney to disclose more of his tax information. Democrats say additional returns will clear up questions about offshore accounts and his rate of income tax, while Republicans say it would be politically advantageous to disclose more information. President Barack Obama's campaign immediately blasted out the poll Thursday as an indication their campaign push is working.

In Thursday's poll, 30% of self-identified Republicans said Romney should release more of his returns, compared to 75% of Democrats and 53% of Independents who said the same.

The survey also showed respondents were divided on whether or not the tax return information was relevant to the campaign. Forty-seven percent said having more tax return information from Romney would be "largely irrelevant" to making a decision at the voting booth, compared to 44% who said the returns would provide ""legitimate information that helps voters make better decisions."

The Gallup/USA Today poll was taken by telephone on Wednesday from 539 adults. The sampling error was plus or minus 5 percentage points.

3- Drop out of the before the convention.

According to the head of the Romney household, Ann not Mitt we don't need to see anything more. We as in the citizens of America. What a snob! Today we find out Bain was funded through more shady holdings in Panama. Some of the investors are connected to family members with ties to death squads. While I doubt Romney knowingly commited a crime I'm sure he played dumb and didn't try to seek the truth.

Who does Ann think she is talking to with "you people"? Corporations? The voters demand to see the returns, the issue will not be going away no matter what kind of fake indignations she and Willard foist upon us. We have decided that it is important and it will be a big part of the election.
Bottom line, if she and Willard want privacy, they are free to step aside and let some other clown from the GOP step up and be completely transparent with the American people.

@inathens – "I care about what Obama has done with our money."
    **********************************************************
No one has done more economic damage to our country than George W. Bush. He inherited an annual budget surplus and turned it into record deficits with ill-advised tax breaks, two wars, and Medicare Part D, among other things. He got us into two wars – and did not raise taxes to help pay for them (the first time in U.S. history we went to war and lowered taxes). He ran up $5 trillion in debt. He left our economy in shambles.

Obama inherited massive deficits, two wars, and the worst economy in 70 years. During his tenure we have had the BP oil spill, the Fukushima disaster, record tornado activity and record flooding, and the European debt crisis. He also got the most obstructionist Congress in history – a Senate that filabusters almost all progress and a new inept and irrational House in 2010. He is doing a remarkably good job considering all of that.

Romney should understand that GOP establishment are not stupid. They are not going to put him as their candidate, while they know without releasing Tax Returns, is totally a deal breaker.

Im sorry. Legal or not hiding money in swiss bank accounts is unethical at the highest degree considering the position he is running for. If he wont produce them we need to choose someone else at the convention.

The longer he delays, the more people are going to mistrust him. I didn't trust him before, and I trust him even less now. He has lying eyes.

And after Ann Romney saying that "you people" don't need to see anymore tax elections that won't decide the election anyway just about says is all – because Mitt and Ann think that you people will not be able to keep them out of office because they have the secret billiionaires who want them in. And believe me – the wealthy will own this couple. Ann Romney is as big of an out of touch jerk as her husband. And here I thought she might be the nice one of the duo.

Don't you think by now the IRS would done something to Romney if he did something illegal? If Obama has proof than let him bring it out and have Holder charge Romney with the crime.

    @Carlos

Has a poll been done in order to find out what percentage of the electorate is willing to learn finance and tax law in order to understand tax returns of the complexity of Romney's?

We are not trying to advise him on finances and/or tax law; we just want to see what he had already filed.

Nope. But here's your answer – they'll just listen to whomever they "trust" and if that happends to be Madcow, Sgt. Schultz, or Mr. Tingle, that's what they're going to believe.

This is how I define kaleidoscoping, and advance form of flip-flipping, usually executed over long time frames.

1999 – Mitt Romney leaves Bain Capital to go to the SLOC in Utah.
2002 – Mitt Romney testifies to the MA elections board that he never left Bain or MA
.....fast forward over more mental gymnastics....
June 2012 – Mitt Romney says he left Bain in 1999
July 2012 – Mitt Romney says he retired from Bain retroactively.
.....fast forward through time with Dr. Emmet Brown.....
Aug. 2012 – Mitt Romney accepts GOTP nomination for POTUS
Sep. 2012 – Mitt Romney claims in a debate that he was active at Bain until 2002.
Sep. 2012 – Mitt Romney claims in a debate that he was not active at Bain after 1999.
Oct. 2012 – Mitt Romney conducts 5 TV interviews claiming that he retired in 2002 retroactive to 1999.
Nov. 2012 – Republican voters have buyer's remorse and vote for an honest man, Pres. Obama.

Face it lefties, Romney isn't going to play your stupid little gotcha games. He's too smart to dance to YOUR tune of distraction. Romney is winning in the polls because he offers competence and a plan to get this country moving again. Obama offers up nothing more than smoke and mirrors and class warfare and debt, debt, debt, debt......

I don't care about Romney's tax returns! I want to see my taxes lowered and I know that won't happen if Obama is re- elected. Remember, "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!"

If Romney becomes president, he will probabily steer national investment and tax decisions to favor foreign entities and individual investors in order to "maximize" his returns in Swiss accounts, Cayman Island, etc.

The 37% apparently don't care whom they elect president and just want to give Romney a pass. Not a bit curious if he took advantage of the Swiss bank account amnesty program? Mr. "No Amnesty For You Illegals" likely took advantage of an amnesty program himself.

" IT IS YOUR TAX RETURNS, STUPID"

Tax returns tell it all, a person's love and loyalty to his/her country; ultimate desire to obey the laws of the land, and his/her appropriate character to hold the highest office of the land.

ONLY ROMNEY CAN HELP HIMSELF IF HE IS CLEAN, CLEAR AND NOTHING TO HIDE.

His arguments are laughable at the very least. Full disclosure is the only response that is needed. If not, then no endorsement as a Republican candidate. We should be very afraid of him should he become President. Ann and Mitt are truly snobs – that's why they have a hard time making a connection with the American people as a whole. She said "those people", really? Really?????

I care about Romney's character and integrity. I want to see my taxes lowered, but I also want to see jobs created in America with middle class wages. I know that won't happen under a Pres. Romney. Don't forget, Romney referred to jobs at Staples as good middle class jobs during the Republican debates.
