
(CNN) - President Barack Obama was informed of Friday's shooting at a Colorado movie theater by John Brennan, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, at 5:26 a.m. ET, the White House said.
Obama spent the night in Florida after the first day of a two-day campaign swing through the state.
At least 12 people were killed and 50 wounded when a gunman opened fire during an early Friday morning screening of the new Batman movie at an Aurora, Colorado, theater, a police official told reporters.
