Campaigns resume attacks

(CNN) – The bitter partisan fights that have been waged for months reappeared Monday after a weekend of reflection following Friday's deadly shooting in Colorado.

David Axelrod, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama's campaign, was the first to break the silence on Twitter.

The message directed readers to a report that some records from Romney's tenure as head of the Salt Lake City Olympic games had been destroyed.

With the silence seemingly broken, a few hours later Mitt Romney's campaign resumed their attacks on Obama's handling of the economy, sending a press release highlighting a series of reports detailing America's still-weak economic recovery.

"Millions of middle-class Americans are struggling in the Obama economy and there's no relief in sight," Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul wrote. "After three and a half years, the results of President Obama's policies are clear: businesses aren't hiring, poverty is climbing, and manufacturing is weakening. Middle-class Americans need a new direction, and a new president who can get our economy back on track."

Friday's shooting at a Colorado movie theater prompted a shift in the political tone, as both Romney and Obama turned previously scheduled rallies into solemn events to express sorrow for the Colorado massacre. Both campaigns canceled later events on Friday and pulled political advertising from the airwaves in Colorado.

On Sunday, Obama's campaign said it would keep ads off the air through Friday, and Romney's team said the ads would remain down "until further notice."

    Myviewis,
Continuing to divert to others not running for president only highlights that Romney is hiding something by not releasing his tax returns.

How? how? how? how?. Why no elaboration? What incompetent people who are running this campaign!

Theater, pure and simple. After the two party (so called heads), point fingers, get flustered and stir up the troops they go out to lunch together. Later that evening they sit around, telling stories of their daring do. Some fall for the charade, other see through it. Same old same old.

Romney sends letters to GOP believers and asks for 2,500-5000 dollars to help his campaign. Money rules the election and this is wrong. The election ought to be governed by pen on ballot. Where are the resume's of the presidential candidates instead of all this negative blather. This process needs serious repair.

Many are interested in how either candidate is going to fix the European economic problem which seems to be rooted to the US economic problem. Fixing the debt with something that will work? Show voters something positive anything positive.

Romney's attack Ads on Obama are no more than a "proxy" to avoid releasing his tax returns and his plans that would be in direct conflict with jobs and the economy. Democrats must keep pushing Romney for his plans and his tax returns because Romney's ads aren't enough to qualify him for President. Romney needs to put up or shut up. P.S. THERE'S NOTHING ILLEGAL IN ROMNEY'S TAX RETURNS BUT THEY WILL SHOW IF AND WHEN HE TALKS ABOUT THE ECONOMY AND JOBS HE'S BEING DECEITFUL.

Maybe Romney will release his tax returns when Holder and Obama turn over their Fast And Furious documents.

    Getoverit,
Pres. Obama has released at least 10 years of tax returns. Romney only released one year, and it was missing pages. A false equivalent.

Why wait? Why not beat the rush, Mittler, and show us what you paid? We'd all feel a lot better if we knew that you paid taxes, and not some ridiculously low rate of taxes. You want Americans to feel good about you, don't you? You aren't hiding anything, are you? Because it really looks like you're hiding something that is a lot worse than the damage to your campaign caused by you NOT releasing your returns.

And to Rob-money supporters: Why aren't you interested in finding out what's hidden in your candidate's tax returns? Afraid it will be even harder than it is now to justify supporting him?

What are Obama's plans? Oh yeah, "Forward" to the financial abyss. In 2008 it was "Hope & Change". We got no details then and here we sit at 8.2% unemployment and $5 TRILLION deeper in debt with nothing to show for it.

Sorry, but Obama has already proven he is clueless on the economy and what it takes to get the country moving again. He's a socialist that could care less about getting businesses hiring again. This actually helps him get more people hooked on government.

The difference between the two campaign messages is one uses innuendo, speculation and halftruths that have been debunked by even the liberal media and the other is quoting actual economic facts and the all to real circumstances faced by the American people because of the policies of this President.

Myviewis, Nancy Lelosi is not running for president, she will not ask anybody to show tax return as a custom for
public officials who may inspire for appointed jobs.
How will Romney do if he elected president, and you know all those secretaries, and directors and so forth
require to show tax returns before given a job, will a person who refuses to reveal his tax return to question that.
Let Mitt Romney show his tax returns. He dodged the questions during the primary, he will not do so this time.
If he know better let him release it now.

    ..
What will we find in WILLARD MITTHAUS ROMNEY'S TAX RETURNS ?
    ..
It will be the playful records of a super-millionaire – OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS, LOW TAX RATES FOR WMR, and the actual MANAGEMENT POSITION THAT WMR HELD AT BAIN (THE POWER TO CONTROL OUTSOURCING JOBS !).

Romney has all but said that he will not release anything.....tax records, details on cutting the budget, taxes, healthcare, foreign policies.....at least till after he gets elected. Why is that? He said that anything released will be used by the Obama team. So instead of answering questions, he'll just leave it to the imaginations of the people.

Clearly, this strategy has many shortcoming.

You do not need to release your tax records there is no law to do so.
I would much rather see what Obama is hiding in the Fast and Furious documents, than Romney's tax records.

Romney & Obama should stop campaigning altogether, no ads, nothing, except maybe four debates, then we vote in November and that's it. All the campaign money raised could go to better use such as our country's infrastructure or, just give it to me.

Where are all of Obama's campaing ads bragging about Obamacare???

Where are all of Obama's campaing ads bragging about how the TRILLION we wasted on the "stimulus plan" hasn't got unemployment down to 5.6%???

Oh yeah... his "stimulus" is a failure and most people want Obamacre repealed and replaced. Yes, Hope & Change sure has been a bust. No campaign ads about how great things are now huh? So we have a desperate campaing of smear and trivia from Obama. Smoke and mirrors mean't to distract from 4 years of failure. Truly sad but what do you expect from a con artist.

Bend, maybe you can tell us how the stimulus was a failure when independent reports say it wasn't. But we don't really need those reports. We could just ask Rick Perry about his use of the funds. Or the other republican govenors who took the money silently after protesting it loudly.

Total BS. Obama's claims to reduce THE GROWTH OF FUTURE SPENDING are a joke. Obamacare was claimed to cut the deficit while insuring 30 MILLION people. Now the CBO says it will cost $2-3 TRILLION and climbing because they jiggered the numbers by back loading all the expense.

Obama could easily reduce the deficit immediately if he wanted to with an across the board 5% cut in all depts. What organziation can't find 5% to cut? Obama's a joke and hasn't tried to cut anything.
