Obama ad uses different tone in drawing contrast with Romney

(CNN) – President Barack Obama says in a new television spot that the economic plan favored by his rival Mitt Romney is a tired approach that would only favor the wealthy.

The Obama campaign says the minute-long ad, called "The Choice," will air in nine battleground states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Obama's campaign said on Sunday they would not air any ads in Colorado through Friday in light of the shooting there last week. "The Choice" will begin airing in the state on Saturday, the Obama campaign tells CNN.

In the spot, Obama looks directly into the camera and tells voters, "Over the next four months, you have a choice to make."

The president says the choice isn't just between Democrats and Republicans, or between himself and Romney.

"It's a choice between two very different plans for our country," Obama explains. "Governor Romney's plan would cut taxes for the folks at the very top. Roll back regulations on big banks. And he says that if we do, our economy will grow and everyone will benefit. But you know what? We tried that top down approach. It's what caused the mess in the first place."

By contrast, Obama says his plan would "ask the wealthy to pay a little more so we can pay down our debt in a balanced way, so that we can afford to invest in education, manufacturing and home-grown American energy."

Obama concludes by laying out the stakes he sees in November's election: "Sometimes politics can seem very small. But the choice you face, it couldn't be bigger."

The latest spot from the Obama campaign is a sharp contrast from an ad that has been running for the past week that hits Romney for reports he outsourced jobs as a private equity executive. The ad uses graphics of various news reports over video of Romney singing "America the Beautiful."

Other spots from Obama's campaign have been similarly negative, including profiling companies that were closed after being taken over by Bain Capital, the private equity firm run by Romney.

Responding to the ad, Romney's campaign attacked the president's record on job creation and said he was "unqualified" to lead the country.

“President Obama believes that government creates jobs, not hard-working entrepreneurs and small-business owners. Not only are his ‘you didn’t build that’ comments insulting to job creators, but they also reflect how unqualified he is to lead our country toward an economic recovery. Instead of meeting with his Jobs Council, he is busy holding fundraisers, playing golf and trying to tear down Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney will never be too busy to focus on jobs and the economy and it will be his top priority as president,” said Amanda Henneberg, Romney campaign spokesperson.

Romney has nothing but more of the same tax cuts for the wealthy and deregulation that got us into this mess. Why do think Rove and Cheney are supporting him? Do you think the Koch's and their ilk are sending millions into Romney's campaign out of the goodness of their hearts? They expect a big payoff if they can get him into office, and you middle class Republicans who support them are in for a rude awakening.

Obamas "plan" has us projected for high unemploymnet for the forseable future.....thats the change we can believe in. Obviously, foodstamps and unemployment benefits were not the economic stimulus he had hoped for.

John F Kennedy was also rich, whatever the source is. Wealth shoudn't matter.
Your record/experience should matter, even today Obama has one paragraph resume. He is actually going in wrong direction in terms of debt and employment. Hoping for change in Nov' 2012.

Interesting Rasmussen poll out there: 72% of people believe small business owners are primarily responsible for their own success.

    Romney-2012.

Now this is the kind of ad we should see more often in politics. It's to the point and it's not slinging mud. Though it is lacking in details (how specific can you get in 60 seconds?) it shows how President Obama is working for Americans. Without simply bashing Romney he discredits him and provides a decent reason as to why he can do it. Great ad from a great candidate. I hope the Romney camp spits out something like this, too, though I only see mud in their future.

    Romney banned guns in Mass.
    He was pro-abortion.
He created the government mandaite healthcare law.
He thinks illegals should self deport.
    He wants banks unregulated again.
He said he would attack Iran and made claims that Russia is our #1 enemy.
He believes marriage is between 1 man & 1 woman but his grandfather had 3 wives at the same time!
The business model he created outsourced jobs.

I would like to ask Mitt Robme the job creator,.. Just how many jobs have you created with your wealth in the last 3 years and why do you think you deserve a tax break?

You and 2 other friends come up with a great idea for a business. But your 2 friends have bad credit and are poor. So you register the company in your name, you get your father to loan you $40,000 to get it off the ground. Your 2 friends do all the advertising and even put up the website which allows you to sell your products. Due to your credit rating the fabricators are willing to give you a 3 months of credit intrest free with the signing of a 1 year contract. After the first year all 3 of you work really hard and after taxes and expenses you make $1 million in profit.

How much would you take for yourself and how much would you give to the others? This is the difference between a republican and a democrat.

I agree with a previous post. I am starting to not understand Americans. Not one republican can tell me what Romney stands for. All they can say is well he is not Obama. Not one NRA member can tell me how Obama took away their gun rights. Not one republican can give a clear answer as to way Obama is a socialist. Not one republican will give him credit for anything. Republican leaders sat around at a Resturant in DC on the night of the anogoration ( I know I spelled it wrong)and literally ploted on how they were going to "take down Obama" Not conspiracy its true look it up and they all admitted to it. Mitch McConnell said thei number one priority was to make Obama a 1 term president. Not spur economic growth or help the country recover from the Recession THEY created. I just don't understand how Americans can't see through their propaganda and continue to vote for peopl who tell you to your face they are not for you. They tell you to your face they are going to help the wealthiest and hopefully it will unleash the job creators and trickle down to you. How did that policy work under bush. I am mad as Hell!!!!! but feeling a little hopeless for my fellow Americans. I don't think people have t agree with me, but I mean common sense is just commmon sense. THE GOP IS PLAYING AMERICANS FOR FOOLS

Romney – Took NO salary for 3 years as President of Salt Lake Olympics. That's the kind of man needed as President. Not a "Ego-on-legs" and self-serving hypocrite!

Look i I think Pres. Obama has done great for this country. People just don't really realize it. I mean we had about like 24 months of straight job creation. Plus he saved the auto industry which was about to completely be demolished. Plus when people say he hasn't created jobs he has (over 4.2 million) he just isn't creating as must jobs as you guys want him too. Like he said these things take time. Americans just want everything to be fast, and it's not going to happen that way. So what I'm really trying to say is OBAMA 2012 !!!!

Beward, romney is not to be trusted. Anyone that favors helping the rich fill their pockets with millions is not the kind of person we want in the White House. Romney may be very successful in making money, but the question is, how did he become so wealthy? Was it by taking from the poor and middle class to fatten his rich buddies' pockets with more millions. I've been listening to his speeches, he sounds greedy, out of touch and close minded. We want a President that governs with an OPEN HEART AND AN OPEN MIND. I'm going with President Obama, our president needs more time to clean up the mess that is taking longer than 4 years to clean up. Romney is a dangerous man. He hates the United States and he has proven it by keeping his money in Swiss Banks and in the Cayman Islands. He does not have faith in our system and he does not want to help out our country. He is not a trustworthy man.

Romney made a fortune destroying viable companies and eliminating jobs, while using every loop-hole possible to avoid paying taxes. That anyone who works for a living is even considering to vote for him is mind-boggling.
