Obama ad uses different tone in drawing contrast with Romney

(CNN) – President Barack Obama says in a new television spot that the economic plan favored by his rival Mitt Romney is a tired approach that would only favor the wealthy.

The Obama campaign says the minute-long ad, called "The Choice," will air in nine battleground states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Obama's campaign said on Sunday they would not air any ads in Colorado through Friday in light of the shooting there last week. "The Choice" will begin airing in the state on Saturday, the Obama campaign tells CNN.

Poll: Are Obama Bain attacks hurting Romney?

Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney's campaign is pointing to a new national poll that suggests the attacks by President Barack Obama's campaign on the GOP challenger's business record are not working.

According to a USA Today/Gallup national survey released Monday, 63% of Americans say Romney's business background, including his years at Bain Capital, the private equity firm he co-founded, would cause him to make good decisions in handling the nation's economy over the next four years, with 29% saying his background would cause him to make bad decisions.

Biden honors heroism of police officers

(CNN) – In an address to police officers Monday, Vice President Joe Biden focused almost exclusively on the heroism displayed in the aftermath of last week's deadly shooting in Colorado, saying law enforcement officers and ordinary citizens who rushed to help victims of the massacre "define who we are as a nation."

"They make us proud of our country, and maybe more important at this moment, they make us confident that this country is made of that sterner stuff and there is reason to be hopeful and confident," Biden told the National Association of Police Organizations, meeting in Manalapan, Florida.
