Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney's campaign is pointing to a new national poll that suggests the attacks by President Barack Obama's campaign on the GOP challenger's business record are not working.
According to a USA Today/Gallup national survey released Monday, 63% of Americans say Romney's business background, including his years at Bain Capital, the private equity firm he co-founded, would cause him to make good decisions in handling the nation's economy over the next four years, with 29% saying his background would cause him to make bad decisions.

For more than two months, the Obama campaign has fired away at Romney's business record, highlighting reports that Romney remained CEO of Bain Capital after January 1999, when he has repeatedly said he left to head the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. At the heart of the debate are companies that were acquired by Bain after 1999, which in some cases resulted in jobs being outsourced to countries with lower labor costs. The Obama campaign and a pro-Obama super PAC have hammered Romney in ads for months, labeling him an outsourcer.
The Romney campaign has responded by touting a nonpartisan fact-check by FactCheck.Org have poked holes in the "outsourcer" claims, and recently launched a new offensive accusing the president of outsourcing jobs through his administration's trade policies and loan guarantee program.
A CBS News/New York Times poll released last week indicate that six in ten said Romney's tenure at Bain Capital would not matter to their vote, with 23% saying it would make them less likely to vote for Romney and 14% saying it would make them more likely to vote for the presumptive GOP nominee. The Obama campaign points to polling in some of the battleground states where the spots are running that indicate that Romney's unfavorable rating has edged up.
According to the USA Today/Gallup poll, 54% say Romney has the personality and leadership qualities a president should have, edging up a point from February. Fifty-seven percent say Obama has the personality and leadership qualities needed in a president.
While both campaigns and the independent groups supporting the two candidates have launched a record setting amount of negative ads, the survey indicates that a majority of the public says neither candidate has been attacked unfairly.
According to the poll, Romney has the edge when it comes to being able to "get things done," while the president has a two-to-one advantage over Romney on likeability, and has a double digit lead on the former Massachusetts governor on understanding the problems Americans face on a daily basis.
The USA Today/Gallup poll was conducted Thursday through Sunday, with 1,030 adults nationwide questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.

For a poll to be credible we must first know when it was taken, what was the sample size, what was the demographic Mix, the age Range Mix the regional mix all these factors must be taken in to account when putting together a poll. Unless there is a reasonally mix then the Poll is meaning less. Its hard to tell if the Nain attacks are scoring since no one has voted yet. Those on the Right tout the Polls that favor their guy. Those on the Left do the same. The Washington Times will publish some polls that you wont see any other place Any pol that is favorable to President Obama they bury on page 34. Romney is being hurt by hiding his tax returns which will show things about his time at Bain to make people understand what a weasel he is. He is also being hurt by the complete lack of specifics regarding the spending cuts he plans to make up for the loss of revenue from the tax cuts he promises. It's like his healthcare "reform" plan... all of the current benefits except no mention of how he plans to pay the bill. He'll go after Social Security and Medicare because the very wealthy don't need either benefit.
The American people understand one thing ... if you want to predict the future, you must use the past ... by using the past to predict the future we know these important facts:
Unemployment 6.8% when Obama took office ... 8.2% now ... this would mean that Obama would increase unemployment to 9.6% if the past predicts the future
Gas prices: $1.68 a gallon when Obama took office ... $3.51 now ... this would mean that gas prices would increase under Obama to $5.14 per gallon if the past predicts the future
Debt – we all know that Obama ... if the past predicts the future ... would increase the national debt by an additional $4 Trillion

The problem is not Bain itself. They are a normal middle-of the-line management consultancy. The problem is the total
ignorance of 63% of the american electorate that think Romney's "management-education" from Bain qualifies him to
run the economy of the USA. All he learnt in Bain was how to manipulate distressed assets and keep as much of the

Bain saves distressed companies. If Solyndra had gone to Bain instead of Washington, there would still be a solar panel industry in the US. Instead, 1,200 people are unemployed, the taxpayers are out $500 million and national debt continues it's rise to $20 trillion and Obama has no plan to reverse it. Mitt needs to be worried about the state by state polling not the nationa polling. It is really working in my state and that good enough for me. PA is my state and Mitt is losing by 12 points.

Sorensen – I would not mind if Romney leveraged the USA assets to increase jobs here at home ... What my problem is ... Obama's jobs Czar who happens to be the CEO at GE ... has been closing plants here in the USA, and shipping jobs to China ... Obama has been investing US tax dollars in companies that are found by people that raise money for his campaign ... these companies either outsource jobs or go bankrupt ... or both.
What we need to do here in the USA is three things:
1. Retire the national debt
2. Retire the cronyism that is a part of the current administration
3. Retire Obama
If we do these three things in 4 years the USA will have recovered.

To be honest, Mitt is not the man to be President. He is not for ALL the people. That simple, I just hope the average voter sees that.

Nothing better than people who do not understand venture capitalism asserting that one's experience in it equips them to be President. I understand people are desperate, yet the office of the President is not the CEO of the economy, so please stop fantasizing that someone with a business background would be able to come in and run the economy like it is their own business. The President needs to be a leader, communicator and hopefully someone who can propose and argue policies that if implemented can further the greater good, (providing we care or believe in such a thing.)

Romney is a rich white guy. And we all know that rich white guys are evil and only care about themselves, and other (preferably white) rich people. Everything these evil rich white guys have obtained is ill-gotten; at the expense of some other poor soul. Evil rich white guys, therefore are robbing us (the 99%) of our prosperity. We need to stop them and take back what's rightfully ours. Non-rich white guys, in turn, care about the "workin' man", "wage earners", "middle class families", etc. Time for another occupy rally.
